That's not to say that the prototype found wasn't six months old itself though... Do we know how old it is? For all we know there could be another newer prototype out there that hasn't been lost with the casing it will launch with.

And I know everyone is so hung up on a July release but what's not to say it will be later than this and therefore time for a case retooling.

Although I fully understand where you are coming from there are still variables that could mean different housing to what we've seen.

Absolutely

A 4.0 to 4.3 inch screen is what keeps me holding on.

Even with Flash and tethering at zero chance

I have not jumped ship yet

I think they'll Acknowledge...

In one of the previous Keynote's, Steve has joked about being rumoured to be dead. And another where he said he got a little frustrated at 3rd Party companies making and releasing info about new iPod's through accessories. So it wouldn't surprise me too much if he slipped a slide in to cause a laugh to break the tension!

actaully i would find id funny if steve announces the price being $10,000:D and goes im kidding its only 199/299 what ever the price is going to be.

i dont see much humor in that hyperbole, if you can even call it that. it obviously wouldnt be $10,000 so why even make a joke about that? maybe if he said it'll be $500 or $50, but not $10,000

If Apple wanted to remove some of the bad taste in people's mouth's over this whole gizmodo thing, they could be gentlemen about the whole thing and invite BOTH Gizmodo and Gray Powell up to the stage and all shake hands.
And move on.

I've already received the seating assignments...

We have a magical and revolutionary iPhone update and I'd like to show it to you now.

[Steve grabs demo device]
Our customers told us that they want the ability to video chat on the iPhone. We listened and let me tell you, we have done it better than anyone. Let me give you a short demo.

[Steve launches iChat app]

[Person on the other end is none other than Gray Powell, sitting at a bar with a cold beer in his hand]

Applause.

He could say, whatever price it is, "it's a bargain, because some people have paid up to $5,000 for this phone!"

Apple will have a keynote. They have keynotes for every release, this will be no different. Believe it or not, a majority of people heard nothing about the leaked prototype, and while it would be "cool" for Apple to just address the elephant in the room and move on ... Apple has much more "class" than that, and by "class" I mean pride. Expect to see things go on as planned with no changes.

Of all the mock scenarios suggested in this thread, this is the only one that made me laugh. :)

I do think there will be a passing comment, something along the lines of "some of you might have seen this already", but no more.

agreed, i don't think they'll mention Gray at all

Apple haven't *always* pretended like nothing happened...

Whats the story behind that?

Oh and I definitely think they will mention it, and joke about it, this was one of the biggest leaks in their history, and one of the most well covered. Its one think if product pictures leak on Engadget, a month or two beforehand, it's another thing when an entire phone leaks, and every major media outlet covers it. I also think that as soon as it happened, apple had their writers start coming up with ways to joke about it, and probably restructure the focus of the keynote. I think we will see less of a reveal, like some of their previous ones. First they will show their numbers like usual, and then they will announce the phone and cover all the specs quickly, after that I think it will mostly be focused on showing off the software not the phone, everyone has seen the phone now, so apple will want to make sure that when it gets covered in the news again, that all the reports mention its new software features. (I really think apple was relieved that they wiped the phone before anything leaked, I truly believe the true greatness of the new phone is in the software, not hardware).
