I think they'll make light of the situation. But I also don't think that prototype is the final look of the new iPhone. It's not Apple. It's too busy, even though it's simple. I think they'll get everything sorted in terms of specs and functionality and then they'll encase everything and there will be a lot less seems and we will have something that resembles the original iPhone with the aluminum casing similar to what the iPad has. Just my opinion...

When Steve demos the video chat feature...
...He will have a live video conversation with Jason Chen.

And mid-conversation - the police will bust down the door!

More seriously, I think Apple will focus on the device.

If Apple wanted to remove some of the bad taste in people's mouth's over this whole gizmodo thing, they could be gentlemen about the whole thing and invite BOTH Gizmodo and Gray Powell up to the stage and all shake hands.
And move on.

I think it will be quite amusing if Gray Powell was the name of the contact they use when they show off new features in apps. Like when they do the typical "lets pretend to meet up and go for pizza" scenario when they showed off MMS/SMS/Skype etc etc.

That would be awesome lol. Imagine if its a completely different phone from the one leaked and they use gray powell as the contact on the screen. that would be pretty funny

People who have knowledge of design and manufacturing processes have already debunked this idea. The case has to be designed fairly early on. It also has to be finalized at least 3 months before product delivery so that the factory can be tooled up and production begin to get enough phones in the stores by launch. If we are looking at a late June/early July launch, manufacturing should begin in the next week or two.

Edit: as usual, an option is missing in the poll....they'll aknowledge it with a brief joke and move on. No Gray on stage.

I remember when the thinner keyboard was leaked Jobs said "some of you may have seen this on the Internet." Poking fun a bit like that I could probably see.

I think it would be seriously funny if Steve Jobs were to make a quick mention of Gray Powell and say something like "Those of you that are worried about Grey, not to worry. He is still part of the apple family and testing products as we speak".... Cut to a quick picture or short clip of Gray holding an 80's brick phone or working on a "top secret" Apple II with a comically annoyed look on his face.

I think that would address the subject, let people know that everyone is OK and has some kind of humor, the Woz finds it funny. I mean seriously, how many of us have lost our phone / keys / wallet, ect. With a few hundred developers for each of 4 models I am amazed it has taken this long.

As for the people that stole the devise, and those that paid 5K for it, I'm kinda torn. I cant stop checking rumor sites, I'm starting to feel like Gollum did about the ring... However that does not excuse what they did, it is still theft and I don’t expect Apple to try to put a comic spin on that.

Apple will do what they have learned works. They will allow all of the fans, and all of the financial press to do their work for them.

Then they'll announce a show. With a neat invitation that everybody will dissect from the font, to the colors, etc.

Then there will be a thousand people there, each liveupdating various websites.

He'll announce that they've sold X somethings, and people will cheer.

He'll talk about iPhone 4.0, and how great it is. Then the new phone, which takes advantage of it better than the 3GS.

Immediately following this, there will be 6,000 threads here about how to resell their phone or cheat their wireless provider out of the early cancellation fee, or something.

So, business as usual.

That about sums it up.

Go on like normal, and I'm sure there's at least a few things that gizmodo didn't find(maybe in the OS) that they'll announce.

I mean there is soo much they could talk about.. Especially from the OS perspective as to how the front facing camera would work in the OS or maybe an iChat App.. We and talk about the flash and the bigger camera sensor and all.. All giz did was show us the hardware we still dont know the specs and how they will work..

Of all the mock scenarios suggested in this thread, this is the only one that made me laugh. :)

I do think there will be a passing comment, something along the lines of "some of you might have seen this already", but no more.

I think it would be funny to have Powell as the guy who stands off to the side with the demo phone. When they start to demo a new feature, he acts like he cant find the demo phone and falls off a barstool.:D

They'll open with the Ad like they had before. With them going down the secret hallway.... Then opening the case...... and inside is the new iPhone.... all torn apart just like they got it back from Gizmodo.

Except they will meet up at the beer haus or whatever that bar was. Instead of sushi ron or star bucks, it will be the beer house.

That's not to say that the prototype found wasn't six months old itself though... Do we know how old it is? For all we know there could be another newer prototype out there that hasn't been lost with the casing it will launch with.

And I know everyone is so hung up on a July release but what's not to say it will be later than this and therefore time for a case retooling.

Although I fully understand where you are coming from there are still variables that could mean different housing to what we've seen.

actaully i would find id funny if steve announces the price being $10,000:D and goes im kidding its only 199/299 what ever the price is going to be.

It would be kinda cool to see Apple play off of the whole prototype situation but I don't think we will see any change from previous keynotes. I think they will act as if nothing happened.

This is the direction I'm leaning toward.

It seems reasonable that they would use an older prototype (constructed of the same materials, mind you) for field testing just in case something like this did happen.

Prediction: Gray Powell comes on stage with Steve during the event. The crowd cheers. Powell pretends to leave iPhone behind as he walks off. Crowd laughs.
