Well my question was really, if iOS 7 barely runs on the 5's, how can it possibly stand a chance on the lower end phones?

so why does the iPad mini still exist? It's clearly not retina. the iPod Touch 4 is retina yet it doesn't get ios 7

ipod touch 4 has an A4 chip. Do you really want to run ios 7 on it, then you'll be complaining about how slow, laggy, and unusable it is? Apple doesn't want that type of stigma on any of their products even if the stigma is justifiably obvious. Apple wasn't able to get the required tech for retina for the ipad mini form factor at that type of screen size. It was simply a compromise not possible to engineer over at the time.

Are you assuming the newer "cheaper" iphones are going to be slower than a 4S? I highly doubt it. Apple is all about the user experience. They wouldn't release hardware that couldn't handle it's own OS. Of course there is a cut-off point where hardware is too old and cannot run the latest iOS (like the 3GS).

My ipad Mini has the internal components of a iPad 2 and it is being included for an iOS 7 update.

What do you mean barely runs on the 5s lol? First of all its a beta, barely runs rofl. My friend has an iphone 4 with ios 7, and even it runs ok.

The lower cost will prob have iphone 5 hardware.

I think he's a Troll or really has no clue about anything.

Legit, iphone 5 quality is far greater than that of the gs4. Also we're comparing a generation old device with what will be samsung's flagship for the next year or so. Not to mention op is simply wrong. Apple has sold more iphones than samsung has sold galaxies.

My question would be though, if you can put retina on an iPod touch and a phone, how is it so impossible that you couldn't put it on an iPad mini?

Fair question. I'm not an engineering expert so I don't know why but it seems they were not able to make an 8 inch retina display that would accommodate the new thin form factor of the ipad mini. Rem. they had to increase the thickness of ipad 3 to accommodate that. The larger screen is more power demanding, requires more material, and not to mention bigger and better hardware (specifically battery). Apple did not want to release a thick ipad mini with retina, one of its main selling points is how easy it is to hold and how portable it is. They would be shooting themselves in the foot compromising on that just for retina. On the fullsized ipad it wasn't a big deal since it was their only tablet. But the only benefit would be the 8 inch screen as opposed to 11 but people care more about ease of use and large screen real estate, which is what ipad mini gives. rumors suggest Apple seems to have engineered a way out of this hole. We'll see what happens.

Marketing would be my guess. Why put out a ipad mini w/ retina right from the start when you can sell the Retina version to the same people the following year?

I think the closer Apple can follow in Samsung's footsteps, the better.
I agree.

Once a cutting edge company, Apple now has been passed in the smartphone space by a very agile & fast moving Samsung.

Having already copied much of Samsung's brilliant ideas in the notification center, Apple would do well to give the iPhone 6 a 5" display. Based on the many conversations I've had with people at work that love Apple but currently are using Android, the most common complaint is Apple refusing to advance and stay relevant with a modern sized display.

You are so wrong.
Try using Final Cut Pro X or Logic Studio X on a 13" Air. Try playing a modern game like Battlefield 3.
Pro (15" & 17") is for professionals, Air is for students, teenagers, school, travel.

EDIT : The 13" Macbook Pro is a joke. A dual core computer with integrated graphics and a 13" screen does not deserve the name "Pro".

I disagree.

My cousin uses both a Mac Pro and a 13" Air. Logic Studio X runs just fine on his Air, even if it's not as smooth as it is on his Pro.

Not only, the 13" Pro is just fine. I use it for FCPX and Photoshop and it runs really great. The only issue I have is just some heavy rendering in FCPX causes some system lag. It's not a joke at all.

why would Apple do that when they require all apps to be submitted to app store be retina specific? :roll eyes:

They already killed off all non-retina (iPhone and iPod) devices with iOS-7. There is no need to go backwards.

It's not like the apps wouldn't run. iPad apps run fine on the mini and iPad 2 despite being "retina" apps. Programs updated for the RMBP run just fine on non-retina MBPs. There's no reason that the current apps wouldn't be able to run on a non-retina devices. Not saying they'll make the low-cost iPhone non-retina, but I'm saying there wouldn't be any issues with apps if they did.

It's funny, :apple: is depending on that "old boy" network kind of.. it's like they're trapped in 5 years ago. They have all this market share, but this is from 2007.

It was somewhere around the time that I tried the S4's eye movement technology where you can do a hands free scroll on pages that it really hit home, "Wow, they're really are innovating."

You really don't know what you are talking about. Get your facts right.
24 hour battery life ? The 13" Air has a 12 hour battery life and the 11" Air has a 9 hour battery life.

Anyway, back to your statement :

The Macbook Air is a Dual-Core machine and has integrated graphics with a 11"/13" screen !
There is no way you can do real PRO work on a Macbook Air.
You can't compare the Air with the Pro.
If you could, the Macbook PRO's would not exist. But yet they do exist. Why ? PRO is for Professionals, Air is for students, teenagers, school, travel. I said this earlier.

lol...
Ok, you're right, of course, that the Pro line out-specs the Air line. You simply can't use an air of you need to do professional video or photo editing, or any kind of work (CAD, programming and compiling, etc...) that requires more power. But saying that the Air is for students, teenagers, school, and travel is shortsighted. There ARE, after all, other professions besides video editors. Writers, for example, can fulfill their profession perfectly well with an Air vs a Pro (JK Rowling says that the Air changed her life, and she wrote many of her novels on it). Teachers, counselors, businessmen, accountants, lawyers, doctors, etc, etc... can find plenty of power for their professional needs on an Air.

The lower cost will prob have iphone 5 hardware.

That wouldn't make sense. The iPhone 5S is supposed to boost processor and camera, from the rumors. A cheaper iPhone would be as powerful as a 4S to be optimistic, in my opinion. Perhaps it wouldn't even reach that level.

Then again. I'm convinced the iOS 7 packed in the lower end iPhones will have limitations, such as ability to multitask, less animations etc.

I'm also going to say its at least at the same level as a 4S if not better.

Apple will not go backwards in screen resolution this will cause more headaches than what the ROI will be. Also, the specs you are speculating that apple puts into the cheaper phone, might as well sell the 3GS or 3G for that matter then.

From what i saw in all the rumours website.. the budget iPhone will have slower CPU not the one from last year (A6) but another model apple will introduce with 1GB RAM.

this will be enough to run iOS 7. anyway we'll never know until we will have actual leaks.

Yep, that's a big if not huge part of it all.

5 of my co workers have the Samsung Galaxy S4 and none of them use that feature. innovative and not adopted = useless.

Don't mean to rain on your "Apple sucks" parade but that's a reality.

Agreed it's a cool feature, but what about it is compelling enough to not just scroll with my finger? That's what makes it uninnovative and a gimmick.

Because it's an exciting feature. It actually works believe it or not, you actually want to run out and try it.

But what do you get with Apple products. Vimeo and Facebook in the Settings menu!

Waving over your phone to answer a call is actually useful too! And not only that, but the look away feature when you're watching movies is very innovative too.

But don't worry, you'll experience it when Apple comes late to the party as usual. And you'll think it's fantastic then.

Waving your hands to answer the phone:

- If you are eating and both your hands are dirty why would you want to answer the phone to begin with? To tell the other person you're eating and you'll call them back or to try talking with a mouthful of food? It's easy enough to wipe your hand with a napkin and text them the same info.

What other situation does this feature come in handy? Doing your nails?

The Video pausing feature when you look away:

- Sucks when you want to HEAR the audio of the video you are looking at. Sometimes I play music videos at work on youtube just to hear the music while I work.

- Sucks if you are actually watching something with a friend. They have to wait for you to look at the phone again.

- I watch TV, look at my iPad, look at my iphone and go back to the TV again. A lot of us do this. losing 2-3 seconds because you looked away is not a big deal. In fact if you have to look away longer than that just hit pause.

Neither of these features make our lives easier enough to actually use them.

If and When Apple decides to bring these features I can guarantee you they will implement a lot smarter than Samsung will.

You don't gotta overthink it like that.

You don't gotta overthink it like that.

It's not over thinking it. Samsung under-thinks its ideas.

The S4 has a feature that allows you to take a picture with the back and front camera at the same time.

Samsung says "hey sometimes you want to take a picture of your friends/family and be in that picture too so this feature will add you in there.

Ok, interesting concept. How did they execute it? the final pic looks like someone copy and pasted your face into the pic.

Is there a better way to do this? yes, ask someone else to take your picture. Mankind has been doing that since the camera was invented.
