So, just to clarify: I go online on the 15th, and pay $299 for the 32GB on Apple's website. My iPhone 4 should be at my doorstep on the 24th and I activate it on my computer? If there is no extra charge for preordering, (tell me if there is) why wouldn't everyone preorder? If you get it on the same day, and don't have to wait in a line, what's the catch?
(I'm new to this)
A friend of mine wants to order on Apple.com and pick it up in store. He doesn't remember his Itunes password. Will he have to use his Itunes account to log in and reserve one?
Also how will Apple.com know the status of your upgrade eligibility? Is it tied with your Itunes account?
Correct, if you reserve you pay when you pick up. Usually, you have to pick it up by specified time on release dayQuestion on in store pick-up. My understanding is if you pre order for in-store pick up they do not charge you for the phone till pick up, yet reserve an iPhone for you. Not sure if I am using the right word here but do they guarantee a phone for you at the store. I am not able to arrive till later on the release day and for them to run out prior to arrival.
Others have indicated that yes, it will come with a micro-sim. The first page of this thread someone posted a screen cap of the AT&T pop-up window that comes up when you plug in a new phone. That should answer your question. It will give you the option the first time you plug the phone into iTunes. How will the home orders work since 4 is operating off the micro sim. Will the micro aim come ready to go with my current phone number or will I have to go to ATT and have it activated?
I've got another line on my account that's eligible for an upgrade. If I preorder with that number, do you think I'd be able to activate my new phone with mine?
yes and no.
with any GSM phone (on AT&T) you can swap sim cards with each other whenever you want, so if you use another line on your account to get the new iPhone, when it arrives (or when you pick it up in store) the phone must be activated with the number you used the upgrade line. once it has been activated, you are free to swap sim cards.
but, with this new iPhone now using Micro-sim card, (unless you already have one) you'll have to go to an AT&T store and have them port your number into a Micro-sim and the number on the micro-sim into a regular sim card.
So if a friend of mine pre-orders the Iphone with his upgrade, picks it up at the Apple store, then he can give it to me and I take it home to activate it? It's that simple? I have the 3GS now.
I don't know about what Apple Store will do. However, you can't take the iPhone with you without activating it from either Apple Store or ATT store (that's was the policy for 3GS). So if you want to try that, you need to go with your friend.
I just looked at my ATT account online and it appears I can change my billing address. I'd rather the phone is shipped to my office on the 24th. Does anyone know if this is possible?
That will be an option when you preorder Tuesday. It should ask you for a billing and a shipping address. I plan on doing the same thing as well.
Most likely not, the phone will get shipped with a micro sim card already in it, and once you do the upgrade through iTunes it will transfer all of your cell information to the new sim card already in the iPhone 4.
My question about the preorders is if we choose to ship it will it take a week after launch to receive it if we do not pay rip off overnight shipping charges?
how would i go about changing my plan since i am pre-ordering, i never go past even a gig of data plus i might want tethering. so if i want to how would i do that on itunes or would i have to go to AT&T's site
last year it was free shipping and preorders (before the cut off date) received theirs on release day.
With my 3GS I didn't buy it on the release date (I waited a day), and the Apple employee never told me to remove my FAN discount from my account. I remember this happened when the iPhone 3G came and Apple servers crashed, the employees told everyone to call AT&T and remove the FAN discount from our account, but I was really close to the front of the line and AT&T call center was too busy, so I never removed it, (other than iTunes going really slow) I had no problem activating my iPhone.
I think your right. The FAN accounts only caused issues for the 3G release. I remember an apple website explaining this and to go to the AT&T store if you had one. Then last year, they fixed it and ANYONE could buy from an Apple store. So everyone "should" be ok this year. We will see![]()
