Just been told on the Apple Chat that there will not be a 'pick up in store' option. :/

That's not true. It specifically states on the apple website the following:

"Beginning June 15, you can reserve your iPhone 4 for pickup at an Apple Retail Store."

Is it more likely to get the iPhone faster from Apple, or from AT&T?
I'm assuming Apple
I don't want to drive 2-3 hours to be able to pick up the phone on launch

So if you order from Apple for in-store pick-up they don't charge anything to a card?
Seems kinda strange they don't take a deposit or something.
I guess maybe, they figure if you don't show up by closing, then they will sell it the next day.

Given the confusion and mixed answers in this and other forums, I went to my local AT&T store and chatted with a friendly rep. Here's what I was told; any editorial on my part is parenthetical.

* How do I pre-order two iPhone 4 for two phone #s?
AT&T's corporate policy, on-line and in store, is one phone per household for new customers. But individual stores / reps are exercising discretion. My rep said he'll pre-order us two phones in store, no problem.

* Do both qualify for the subsidized pricing?
Yes.

* Can they be shipped to me? (I don't want to do in store pickup)
No. In-store pickup only with in-store pre order. However, they are held for seven days, so you don't have to get the release day. (Though I certainly want to).

* How do I get my #s ported from Verizon?
* How do I get them on a family plan?
* How do I get my corporate discount (FAN) applied?
Yes, these are all done during in-store setup. So pre-order in store, pick-up in store, and setup account and details in store. (My rep was clearly a fan of in-store setup. He might underestimate how much can be done wholly online now, but I'm persuaded that doing a new customer, multi-phone pre-order, with a family plan, FAN discount is best done in store.)

* What does FAN apply to?
All portions of contract costing $25 or more. Primary phone line: yes. Additional line at $9.99: no. Data Plans: yes for $25/2GB; but no for $15/200MB. Getting two $15 data plans doesn't matter, as each is under the $25 limit.

* Can I add a texting plan afterwards, if I decide it's useful?
Yes. No change to two-year contract.

* What's the upgrade policy on both phones in the next year? Two years?
After 18 months, both phones can be upgraded at two-year contract price.

* When should I pre-order?
Please pre-order on the 15th, to guarantee you'll get the iPhone at release. Pre-ordering later has, in some past years, delayed getting the phone.

Pre-order through AT&T or Apple?

I have been lurking the forums the past few days, and reading a lot of post. I was originally going to pre-order through AT&T but I have read they may give you some problems and not let you pick up till the 25th. It would also be easier for me because the closest Apple store is about an hour away. Another reason why I was going to order through AT&T is because the only way I am getting the phone is through an upgrade swap with my mom. If I pre-ordered through Apple do you think I would run into any problems?

Apple Website Pre-Order/Pick-up

;)I just checked my upgrade status etc on the Apple site. Even though I've only been on my iPhone 3G contract for 14 months, I'm eligible for the full discount price and it says the $18 fee will be waived. When I checked my AT&T account it also said I was eligible for the full upgrade discount but I would be charged the $18 fee. My normal AT&T bill is $118 a month and I read on another website that customers are receiving earlier discounts for upgrades if their normal monthly bills are over $100 and they have good payment histories. On the 15th I will be using the Apple site instead of AT&T! School is out on Thursday and a week later I will get the "4" - Yippie:p:apple:

I want to preorder 4 iPhones and have them delivered on the 24th? Can I do it all at once on Apple's website or do I have to have 4 separate preorders?

I don't know anymore than I posted: if you want to pre-order four for the same account, you need to go to an AT&T store where they are allowing people to do that.

I've read some comments that, in years past, you could pre-order multiple phones from Apple. It wasn't clear if that required individual accounts for all phones. But I don't really know.

I just got off the phone with my local Apple store, I was told that the account holder does not have to be with me to pick the new iPhone! She said that as long as my name was in the account as an authorized user that that is all it matters..

I've had all of my previous iPhones sent to my home, & I'm not sure how picking up on release day goes. This year I've decided to try something new & pick my phone up on release day at the store.

My problem: I bought the 3G S on release day last year at the cheapest price possible. I see that AT&T isn't allowing me to be eligible for another upgrade until 2011. I want to get it at the $200 price, so I'm going to use my Mom's upgrade. She has a 3G & is eligible for an upgrade. When I pick it up at the Apple store, how will they go about switching it from her number to mine if it's on a new micro sim? I'm sorry if this is a silly question. :p I just want to make sure I know what to expect the day of. :D

I have read through most of the posts & have seen a few answers, but if anyone can give me a clear cut answer that would be wonderful. Thanks!

Wait so the FAN discount applies to the 2GB data feature? Is this confirmed? Because it never applied to the $30 unlimited feature, only voice.

It varies by FAN. If you don't have it now, doubt that you will get it on the DataPro plan.

Then there is this:

With respect to both Corporate Responsibility Users (CRUs) and Individual Responsibility Users (IRUs), the Service Discount described in your AT&T business agreement is NOT available on the DataPlus Personal $15 and the DataConnect $35 plans. DataPlus Personal $15 plan not available for Corporate Responsibility Users.

According to the AT&T rep at my local store, discounts apply to all features that cost $25+. So the 200MB plan doesn't qualify. He didn't indicate it was specific to my FAN.

FAN discount applied to the unlimited plans and they apply to the 2GB plan; they do not apply to the 200 MB plan though.

Switch to new FAN account?

OK, first-ever post, so hope its all good.....
We have 2 ATT iPhones - account is in my wife's name. I just found out that I have FAN discounts eligible at my office. Can I "add" the FAN discount to our exisiting ATT account, or - since its in my wife's name - do we need to do something else? Don't want to lose our existing discounts either...

Not to hijack your thread, but I am a Verizon user jumping ship. Can I have two iPhones sent to my home (wife want one also) and set up a new AT&T account thru iTunes, or will I have to go to the Apple Store?

I jumped ship at the launch of the 3gs. They will handle everything for you on the website when you order. When you get the phones just sync with iTunes and your old phones will be de-activated. If you are still under contract with Verizon expect a bill for the ETF.

my monthly bill is way less than $100 and I am eligible for a full upgrade as well. I have been with them since the beginning of time though!

I called after posting and was told because I wanted a Family Plan, I would have to do it at the Apple store or AT&T store. No ETF, last phone contract ended May 28th.

I also wanted two phones, called the Apple store I deal with and was told come on over Tuesday with the wife and they will reserve two for the 24th.

I am now confident this will go without a hitch.
