I certainly don't feel the need to justify my purchases to anyone, other than my spouse and was also torn between the SS and the Sport, too. I finally opted for the Sport: 1) the fitness application was my primary reason for wanting this (for past several years) 2) this is 1st Gen. If its is a great as I think I will be, then I can upgrade to SS on the next model and still probably get a good resale price for my 1st Gen Sport. 3) since this is brand new, I fear that thefts and robberies will be on the rise. My Sport will most likely not be as much of an attention getter.

Rolex and other nice watches cost way more than Apple Watch. If they don't worry about theft and robbery we should not worry any more than they have been all those years.

Yes - you are correct but Rolex and other high dollar watches are not something that one sees daily. Most of these are usually only worn on special occasions. The AW is new, will be an attention getter and will be something that people wear daily. I hope I am wrong but until the AW's supply and demand is fulfilled, I expect to hear news of watch robberies. It would be nice if there was a theft deterrent built in to them, so that they could be remotely disabled, like the new iPhones.

I see nice watches everyday. Heck, even nice shoes and purses that cost way more than Apple Watch.

I've debated for the longest. I don't want to regret skimping on the steel to save 200 and be jealous every time I see one. F that... I like the peace of mind for at least a year. That's basically less than $1 a day for the year you will use it. Granted Apple watch 2 comes out next year.

I justify the SS model because as a watch guy I know gorilla glass simply will not hold up on a watch. Sapphire is the only way to go when it comes to watch crystals.

Went to the Apple Store for a try on Friday morning. And was set on the 42mm SG. Tried it on and wasn't impressed with the way it look on my arm. And was a little disappointed because that was the one I want. So I ask to try SS Classic buckle. The reaction from my wife and her girlfriends was priceless. They where like all at the same time, Wow!!! That's the one yes.

And even though i didn't plan to spend $200 more. Deep down the SS look way better no comparison. To me it was worth the extra $200, ordered 38mm SS for my wife. And 42mm SS for me. In other wards it's just beautiful and that's my justification. Here is a few shots..

Seeing as its something that will literally be a part of me for most likely two years, the additional cost for not worrying about the display tapping hard surfaces and scratches was worth it for me, along with the added flexibility of the additional band choices. I was on the fence before trying it on, but after using it I know that it is a device that I will use daily, even if it has a few flaws. It simply feels great and is something that I want to use.

How will I justify it? I'm a grown-ass adult and can spend my spare cash however the hell I want. What other justification is necessary?

None.

"Bought this SS link AW cause I like how it looks." If they don't like that response, I don't care. :)

Because I like the look of the SS more. I don't mind paying more for style and aesthetics.

Also... SS has saphire screen.

Great replies here.

Yes, the SS looks better than the aluminum.

...and it's more durable.

I am a blue collar worker. I bang my watch around all day long on equipment. It needs to be more durable, ding and scratch resistant than the basic watch.

Responses to this question will widely vary obviously so here's my .02

I initially wanted to get the SB SS 42mm version, but remembered back to the days when I picked up the very first iPhone. I jailbroke it as soon as it was possible and enjoyed the experience. There is no doubt in my mind that some of the jailbreak community will switch over to the Apple Watch and create the features future Apple Watch iterations will ship with. Also, there was the resale value when it comes time to sell for the next edition. Whether true or not, research shows the devices on the lower end usually sell better than higher end versions (16gb vs. 128gb iPhone).

So with these two points for me, the SB Apple Sport Watch made the best sense for me. My resale value should be higher than what I would get with the SS SB. Plus, if it was damaged through a jailbreak process, or new method devised, I would be looking at a $400 loss vs. a $1k. However, once the two points above no longer matter, then I will sink some extra coins on a SS model or above model...

SS 42mm because I can...nuff said #

I'll admit, before going to the Apple Store I had decided to go with the Aluminum just b/c it looked sleak and similar to the iPhone. I didn't like the SS smudges on some of the reviews.
But after seeing them in person I changed my mind in a second. Stainless Steel looks so much better than Aluminum that it's not even funny.
I would've either bought nothing, or the SS. Of course I went with SS. :)
I’d really appreciate it if you’d spell things out instead of using abbreviations most of us don’t know. I don’t even remember when OS X got the text shortcuts:

This thread is almost a year old. When it was active, "SS" was widely recognized as "Stainless Steel." IDK if it is worthwhile to revise thread history on this one.

Most of us don't know what? There aren't that many abbreviations, LOL.

SB - Space Black
SG - Space Grey
SS - Stainless Steel
AW - Apple Watch

I think that about covers you.

No need to justify. The stainless model was my choice because it was the most durable. Scratches in the stainless can be buffed out and the sapphire is quite hard to scratch. No way to fix a scratch on the sport and if you wear it everyday, it will get scratched.

It sure was a lot of work for a zombie bump post, wasn't it? ;-)

(btw, I justified my SS-BSB by reasoning that if I went with SG-BSB, I wouldn't take the AW seriously and thus wouldn't give it a fair shake)

It is $200 different for equivalent band. If you need to justify for $200, you have financial issue, and you should not be buying any 1st gen electronic product all all.
AW 1st gen readiness or not should not be associated with cost and value, for the different of $200. You wait for next gen or 2 gen later, if you have financial issue to $200 more, so you could buy a more mature and stable product with more feature, and as Apple's pricing strategy always shown, same price.

I don't have to explain to anybody why I spend money on what I spend on.

$600 isn't even expensive for a watch.

Unless your feeding, financing, or ****ing me, it's none of your business.

In one of those scenarios it's still none of their business...
