I've got a 42mm SS which I wear all day every day. So it has to withstand normal daily life and tolerate getting bashed off things when my stupid arm spasms.
It's holding up great, other than micro scratches that any steel watch would, and I think should, get its still looking awesome.

Couldn't ask for more. Awesome device. Works as advertised - 42mm sport. A lot smaller than expected. Battery much better. very comfortable

38 mm SS black sport band. I wear it while gardening. It gets really dirty. I even wore it while breaking up and turning over soil with a hoe so it can take some impact shocks that travel up my arm from that sort of activity. I've got AppleCare + on it just in case.

Maintenance involves a rinse under the faucet and a thorough drying with a towel and paper towel to prevent mineral deposits from my well water from hardening up on the watch.

If it has any microscratches, I would have to hold it up to the window under bright sunlight and put a magnifying glass on it to see them and I have got better things to do with my time and my watch than subject it to OCD levels of scrutiny. As far as I can tell it looks the same as the day I took it out of the box. The crystal is definitely still flawless without a doubt.

The black sport band looks and feels fine so far.

Oh, I forgot to mention, yes it's been lightly knocked against a few surfaces. One stainless steel, the rest wooden edges of cabinets or walls and so forth. I was used to wearing a watch for a good portion of my life and even though it's been over a decade, it's starting to come back to me how to move so I don't bash the watch to pieces.

I've been really curious about what a scratched Space Grey Sport looks like, because I wonder how deep the scratch has to be in order to show the metal underneath. Has anyone scratched a Space Grey Sport yet?

My Apple Watch disintegrated as soon I opened the box.

My 38mm Watch Sport with WSB has been through the following:

A weapons qualifications range, and weapon cleaning.

Complete makeover of the backyard, including hauling rock, laying rock, pulling up the old root system for the grass we're replacing, shoveling large amounts of dirt, putting in a fence, mixing in fertilizer and lawn soil prior to re-seeding, and then re-seeding.

At least one workout a day 5 days a week, often more. Often at the beach in the sand.

Playing with the dog.

Typical housework, dishes, etc.

The daily life of the army.

The WSB has no stains. The screen has no scratches. The case has no scratches. Even after being covered in lawn soil, sand, carbon and CLP from cleaning weapons, the watch and band look like new. I don't wear it in the shower, but I do rinse it in the sink when it gets particularly dirty from a workout or yard work.

Very happy with the durability so far.

Pretty surprised by people's expectations for the SS. It's polished steel, so it's bound to be a scratch magnet. The Sport holds up much better because it's brushed.

That's why watch people prefer brushed finishes on mechanical watches. Polished center links on bracelets on modern day Rolex etc are the same. People just live with it, or pay to have jewelers polish it back up. I would expect the same for the AW.

I've hit my watch on the underside of my desk when typing countless times. Some where pretty hard. I've hit it in the metal pole thing under my school desk a few times. Still looks brand new. No scratches or anything like that.

I'm using a space grey sport 42mm

Hi, I'm from Apple Quality Assurance and we'd like to talk to you about an open position for Product Stress Tester.

Just kidding. Very encouraged to read your account though. I'm worrying a lot less now about damaging my watch.

Mine is purty. Workouts, cleaning the pool, dog trying to lick it (she's neurotic), clumsiness on my part (I have terrible balance and tend to bump into stuff), and it's holding up like a champ.

42mm SS with Classic Buckle

Screen and Leather Band are perfect, SS showing micro scracthes, only visible under direct light. As others have said this is "normal" and "inevitable" with polished stainless steel. The watch is a thing of beauty, i love of the shine of the SS and you can't see the micro scratches with the naked eye.

Here is some pics of mine after two just about two weeks of usage and a nice polish with some "Cape Cod Polish".

My dog is constantly trying to lick mine too. I think he thinks it's supposed to be his.

Yeah, I wouldn't be worried about babying it. Mine seems to be holding up very well to everyday wear and I don't take it off for anything. If I'm doing something physically intensive, I expect it to hold up.

I have a 42mm white sport band - Sport edition. I have walked into shelves at the store, and door knobs and actually it's fine. I did get AppleCare though because I am a klutz, but I'm hoping I never have to use it.

Ordering a Leather Loop band once these start showing up in stores.

I've been carrying heavy loads, and doing house work with it on as well, including dishes by hand, and loving how it is actually water resistant. Very helpful to answer calls while doing these house chores.

I have a small scratch on my SG. I don't know how to describe (it is tiny) or measure how deep it is but there isn't any different color metal showing through. I'm not sure how or when it happened. Although it doesn't bother me, I am wondering how well it will hold up over the long run. It's on the bottom right corner and not noticeable unless I look for it. I'll try to take a picture later if I can take one that shows what I'm talking about.

So the material underneath is still black? If so, that would signify they did a really good job with the anodization of the aluminum. I know mine is going to pick up dings over time, so I'm curious to find out how obvious they will be.
