I think it's probably more like, "Guys, we can't have the product ready to ship yet, but maybe if we announce it now, people will hold off on buying the iPad 2 when it comes out next month."

I think after Apple announces the Ipad 2, so many people will even forget about this.

I thought everything looked really good right up until they said it's not coming out till summer. WTF HP that is dumb, why even demo it now.

Agreed! They always do this and I don't understand why. Announce something that looks amazing (Take off your Apple fanboy hat for a minute) and then tell us the wifi is coming out in 'summer' and 3G/4G "eventually"?

If you are going to show something this great you need to have it ready to go ASAP.

My god ... is it me or has the TouchPAD just stolen all of RIM's Playbook Thunder ?? :p

I think it just took all of RIM's and Motorola Xoom's (if there was any) thunder. The problem (As NT1440 said above) is it's likely that most of it will have died by the time this stuff is actually available for purchase. I really don't understand that one. Why announce almost 6 months before you ship?

Effectively an iPad 1 replica with Wireless syncing that will launch a few months after iPad 2.

Better late than never, I suppose.

Yeah I know...I was thinking the same thing. With all of Rubenstein's experience at Apple (you can tell he was paying attention to keynote style!), you'd think he'd know not to show his hand until ready to release. This is amazing stuff from Palm/HP, but now everyone has time to copy it before Palm even ships a product!

Wasn't the original iPhone announced in January and didn't ship until June? And the iPad was announced in January and didn't ship until April.

sounds like the deeper pockets was a good thing for palm.

I am not sure what to say but that is pretty bad fanboyism in that post.

That keynott background and font is fairly common to us. I have seen quite a few keynotts on things that have nothing to do with technology and that type of font on a background like that is just common to us. It is easy on the eyes and eye to read.

Actually, it's only now common because of everyone copying it after Apple released Keynote.

for a minute there, I thought it was a pic from Apple's presentation...

;)

It is Clonetastic. Does look nice and slick, and is a real competitor.

Interesting that they're cagey about battery life, and it's a chunky feller at half an inch thick.

Cagey about battery life, release date and price. But the underabundance of software more than makes up for those omissions.

The OS is no replica. You could say that about the hardware though.
WebOS is amazing and it only needs something that makes Apple unbeatable: An ecosystem.

Also, hurray for the Palm Pre 3 with the 3.6" WVGA screen!

Still wish they'd made a 4"+ version though. WebOS cards thrive on screen area.

yea i wish they would have a 4" no slideout keyboard. Basically a black slab with WebOS instead of iOS or Android.

WebOS is probably the best overall mobile OS on the market today. Palm lacked on the hardware side of things though until now. I'll be buying one of these when it hits market.

This fantasy about being the best mobile OS is getting extremely old. It was old when it was first proclaimed w/o any basis. Now, it's just sad.

Another ipad killer. Apple really need to update IOS now its lacking a lot of features other tablets have and is really dated.

It's so depressing seeing HP make the same mistakes Palm did all over again.

No matter how good the Pre 3 and TouchPad end up being Summer 2011 is WAY too late. The iPad 2 will be out long before that, the iPhone 5 will most likely be out around then and sucking all their publicity, iOS 5 will probably be out and an army of Android devices in both phone and tablet spaces will be well established. Dual-core chips will be common, even BlackBerry is likely to have the PlayBook out by then. They'd need something spectacular to make consumers wait and I just don't think they've got it.

Why is that depressing? Because I WANT webOS to do well! It's a lovely design with some great ideas, it deserves to find a solid user base. But it's never been on particularly good hardware and Palm (now HP) have never managed to deliver quickly enough.

I always enjoyed webOS, its was always the hardware that sucked. I think Apple should take some cues from the touchpad. Like BETTER ***** NOTIFICATION SYSTEM. For the love of god can we get some decent notifications. Steve Jobs should be ashamed at the notifications in iOS.

Yes, but Apple was marking out new territory. They could afford to announce before the products were ready (and they did ballpark release dates). HP's just hoping to get some PlayBook, Xoom, iPad 2 buyers to hold off until "mid-2011", which is a hard sell.

Three nice things this has I wish Apple would bring the the iPad:

1: Wireless charging.

2: Stereo speakers

3: Numbers along the top row of the on screen keyboard.
