wow .... "touch to share" feature is something kind a cool ... anyone else just seen this ??

I would ditch iPad any day if android 3.0 or WebOS had 1% of the good apps that's on the ipad, Appstore is just too good to compete with, because that's what matter.

WebOS is probably the best overall mobile OS on the market today. Palm lacked on the hardware side of things though until now. I'll be buying one of these when it hits market.

I have been waiting eagerly to see what a WebOS tablet would look like and I must say I am very impressed. It handles notifications and multitasking much better than my iPad. Love the way it communicates with the Pre too. The "touch to share" feature looks amazing.

The first real competitor! The price will be key. I want to know the price.

weights the same thing as the iPad 1 tho ?? a little but over 1 pound and a half they say ...

Wasnt this one of the most asked features for iPad 2 ? Cut down the weight ?

How original

*******, not only do they copy the device, they can't even come up with their own keynote fonts and background...

Totally, everything about the keynote looks completely copied from the iPad keynote, font, background, style, everything.

Summer release is a real problem. If it survives the late release, this is the true competitor in the tablet market. HP has the marketing reach and distribution that I just don't think the Android OEMs are accustomed to.

This is good...

I love AAPL and their products. But I hope this will wake them up. HP now has inked a deal with Time for Magazine subscriptions on their hardware line.
And Apple is trying to do this now, for how long?? It is one of the main reasons of the iPad existence. It is a market very valuable for a lot of business travelers. Let's hope Apple get their stuff together and start delivering this kind of media soon.

give me a c

yeah, go offense!!!
:D

It is Clonetastic. Does look nice and slick, and is a real competitor.

Interesting that they're cagey about battery life, and it's a chunky feller at half an inch thick.

Do you mean chunky like the 1/2" thick iPad? It apparently weighs less too (1.3lbs vs 1.6lbs)

What is the price? That's the key here, folks. If you want to beat iPad, you have to beat it on cost because stuffing all the features in the world will only impress the geeks, but the average consumer will yawn.

So, can they beat the iPad on price?

I am not in the market for a tablet, but this would be the one I would get.

The phones are still crap though.

Yeah I know...I was thinking the same thing. With all of Rubenstein's experience at Apple (you can tell he was paying attention to keynote style!), you'd think he'd know not to show his hand until ready to release. This is amazing stuff from Palm/HP, but now everyone has time to copy it before Palm even ships a product!

I'm not really sure what is there to copy, this is a pretty good jab at catch up (to the onslaught of soon to be released devices), but any buzz will have died out in the next 6 months as the iPad continues to define the tablet market.

Its a shame, WebOS looks REALLY good as a tablet.

The TouchPad looks like a winner...pending the price. Waiting until summer might be a hiccup though, as the iPad 2 will probably ship by then and steal a little of its thunder.

I wouldn't be surprised to find that HP made the announcement this early to jump the iPad 2 event--it's a double-edged sword.

Just learned that TouchPad isn't going to be out until summer.

HP boardroom - "Guys, we've got a great device here, you know what we should do? Demo it 6 months before we actually release it and let Apple just solidify their lead with their actual shipping product!"

Dumbasses.

I think it's probably more like, "Guys, we can't have the product ready to ship yet, but maybe if we announce it now, people will hold off on buying the iPad 2 when it comes out next month."

Competition is GREAT!

We all know that Apple is an extremely self-motivated company and one to never sit on its laurels. Now, with a viable contender to the iPad, this will push Apple to even more 'insanely great' ideas. Can't wait!

I thought everything looked really good right up until they said it's not coming out till summer. WTF HP that is dumb, why even demo it now.

IMO, this is the first real competition for Apple. This blows the Xoom out of the water. The communication feature with the Pre? Genius. If this thing had the app store...it would sell.

I'm hoping the iPad 2 adopts some similar features.

My god ... is it me or has the TouchPAD just stolen all of RIM's Playbook Thunder ?? :p

I think it's probably more like, "Guys, we can't have the product ready to ship yet, but maybe if we announce it now, people will hold off on buying the iPad 2 when it comes out next month."

And that has worked wonders for all these companies in the past....

Fanboyism?

sounds like the deeper pockets was a good thing for palm.

I am not sure what to say but that is pretty bad fanboyism in that post.

That keynott background and font is fairly common to us. I have seen quite a few keynotts on things that have nothing to do with technology and that type of font on a background like that is just common to us. It is easy on the eyes and eye to read.

Fanboyism or not, you photoshop Steve in that picture, and you couldn't tell the difference. It's rather similar.
