^^ I think BestBuy got pissed off that they ordered so much, and then HP dropped it, so they're sending them all back at the same price that BestBuy bought it from instead of selling at $99/$149 for a loss.

HP is taking the loss here, not their retailers.

I'm ticked. I saw them go from in stock to out of stock on Target.com and tried to get it in my cart when Micro Center updated their price, but it was still showing the full price in my cart. Grr.

None available at any stores near me.. WalMart and Office Depot sold out, BestBuy says they don't carry them anymore.

Got the last 16 GB model from my local stapels. The young store employees all wanted to buy one so I believe the store manager was hiding them for his employees.

Well I was one of the first people to see the Office Max tip on SD, and I was able to place an order for a 32GB one. The site crashed by the time I hit submit order, but they have placed a hold on my card. No email and I can't view my order status as their site is down, but I'm feeling hopeful.

Kind of a cross-post with the other thread (in the iPad subforum), but I did get mine this morning, too. Office Depot ignored my in-store pickup that had been processed, but I was first in line at store opening, so I got one of the five they had. Well worth the time/trouble/$$ :D

Very sad that WebOS is losing support, rather than, say, Blackberry QNX--WebOS is far better (I've used both quite a bit). And honestly, WebOS is still better for notifications/multitasking than anything (iPad included) on the market.

Got the last 32GB model in stock at Staples around 10 a.m. this morning. When I called around 9 a.m., they had 5 in stock left.

Sold out pretty quick everywhere.

Placed an order online and got a confirmation. My wife tried three minutes later (to get one for her mother) and the website said they were sold out. Now I'm gonna hold my breath to see if my order really DID go through, or if it ends up being canceled.

Engadget is reporting the following:

http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/20/best-buy-stops-selling-selling-the-touchpad-hp-offers-owners-re/

Tempted by the promise of a $99 TouchPad, in spite of its imminent demise? Well, it looks like American Best Buys won't be enjoying the same liquidation sale as our neighbors to the north. A couple of tipsters have reported that the big box electronics retailer has pulled the webOS tablets from its shelves and is shipping them back to HP. The slates have also disappeared from Best Buy's website, though you can buy $30 screen protectors for one. You can still try to score one on the cheap straight from HP, but both the 16GB and 32GB models are currently listed as out of stock. Don't get upset if you already plunked down $400 for 10-inches of webOS goodness -- HP will refund you the difference. Call up the company or the retail partner you purchased it from, and ask. Just be prepared to sit on hold with all the rest of the folks trying to get their cash back.

^^ Still an extremely capable device.

Don't you think HP would have benefitted from not killing support, and dropping price to ~$200.

Look at how many sold at $99/$150. Imagine if they sold it for $200/$250. I'm sure 90% of the sales would still come. And they'd make more money, as opposed to giving them away at $99/$150.

Then a few days later kill support. Effing over those who bought at the new $200/$250 price. :D. That's what I would have done if I was in charge of HP. Lower prices, not completely, and then kill support.

f I previously purchase a HP TouchPad at a higher price can I receive a price match?
Yes. Customers who purchased the 16 or 32 GB TouchPad after June 19, 2011 may come into the store to get a refund of the difference between the price they paid and the clearance price. If this item was purchased on BestBuy.com, please call BestBuy.com support at 888BestBuy (888-237-8289) for the price match request.

Not that many people would keep their receipts for that..

And would it not be possible to go to some other store, buy it for $99, go to Best Buy and say you bought it around late June, and get the credit of $300 or whatever it is? Saying you lost your receipt? I mean, obviously, I have no interest in even buying the Touchpad for $99 in the first place. Just curious. Thought of that.

Means starting tomorrow, they're putting them on clearance
They are also refunding those who bought them for full price after June 19
They open at 11 on sunday

NEW TOY WOO

If I buy one, it definitely won't even be from BestBuy. And if they're the only one, I don't need one that bad.

I need to have return availability for at least a month or two. Walmart, Costco, etc is where I'm going tomorrow. Maybe even Target.

Walmart's return policy for computer/tablet is only 14 days, and I just called 3 walmarts in my town and asked if they or have they changed the return policy to "All sales final", or do I still have 14 days. I was reassured from all 3 walmarts that it has not changed and that I had 14 days.
