Apple knows in order to break into the car head unit market its streaming software will have to be supported on all phones regardless of OS.

Good job HTC. This phone looks beautiful and has some really great hardware, but for $700 I'll stick with my Nexus 6. Maybe at $500 or $550 I would.

Does anybody know if the HTC can AirPlay music for Music-Video's, something that Apple's iTunes 10.3.3 or the AppleTV1,2,3,4 cannot do ? On Apple devices, when Air-playing a playlist with a music video's, there is a gap of silence for the length of music-video.

Key difference between FaceTime and AirPlay... FaceTime requires server-side support, user accounts, etc. Big costs, staff resources, etc. AirPlay is a device-to-device protocol that has zero impact on Apple's costs.

As much $ as HTC is losing, I will hand it to them with the One 10. It looks decent at the back, front is somewhat good and bad (ugly front facing camera), all the latest hardware, top of the line speakers, and a bigger battery. Now, let's see how they fair in the reviews?

What's with all the FaceTime hate? Aren't there a few alternatives out there that work just as well? (Skype, Google Hangouts, Facebook)

I'll be really curious to see if Apple switched to USB-C with future iPhones. It seems to cover all of the reasons they developed lightening (reversible, small) while being faster and a standard, but it's likely frustrate existing buyers to change the port again and invalidate all accessories.

Impressive specs on that HTC phone. And we're still half a year from an iPhone 7. That's exciting to think about what a leap it may be.

I can't see Apple changing the connection AGAIN to something they don't own and miss out on the sales of Apple accessories and Lightening licensing costs.

Hopefully well, they deserve it. This is a really good phone.

You think so? I do not see carplay ever being used on non-apple devices. They sell that product to manufactures, not end users. I think the carplay/android auto comes as a bundle package. What I mean by that is that I do not think a single car supports one but not the other.

Reminds me of that Palm Pre feature that allowed it to sync with iTunes.
A bit different situation. The Palm Pre used a hack that identified it as a iPod USB device made by Apple. Since it was neither an iPod nor made by Apple, Apple reacted quite badly to this.

They're one of the best Android phones if not the best from experience...

used to be... The M7-M9 didn't help them at all.. I know from experience ;) but, I do like the looks (and promises) of this new version. We'll see how it performs and how the camera actually does (besides scoring the same as a Galaxy S7 on DXOMark).

Their work is cut out for them despite making a good phone. Samsung is the perennial Android King. LG's G5 flopped imo. If anyone deserves to be compared to Apple year in year out, it's HTC. Their experience is near iOS like for me with software. I haven't had any bugs. I only had hardware issues with HTC.

Does it use some kind of hack to do this or is to Apple-sectioned? I didn't think they had opened up AirPlay to other manufacturers.
HTC and Apple have a technology cross-licensing agreement. It's the same reason the iPhone 6 series has HTC's style of Antenna bands around the back.

Looks great! Something to consider in sept..

I know after years of being an Apple Fan boy, Timmy has finally brought the Apple empire off it's pedestal. Iphone is no longer the front runner in innovation, mabook airs are out of date, macbooks are all needing a refresh, Apple TV 4 really seems it hasn't left hobby status, and iphone companion (apple watch) is ok at best.

Seems the only strong product Apple has left is OSX..

So if Timmy doesn't bring is A-game in Sept, I think a innovative beautiful Android is on the shopping list. They say once you go Android, you never go back ;)

Erm.. the m7 won every award going. It was awesome if you don't mind..

Hey Jony, watch your back...this guy is after your job.
Not only does he have your accent down, he knows how to tone down those ugly antennae bands.

I think that overall it would be a win to switch to USB-C. One problem I've had with Lightning cables is that 3rd party ones just really suck. They'll work for a week or so and then poop out. Maybe we'd have better luck with USB-C?... Still it would be nice for Apple to hop on a standard for once.

Overall the HTC seems like a very nicely spec'd out phone. I'm still never going to buy an Android, however, all good ideas for the new iPhone. :)

When FaceTime and AirPlay were originally announced they were going to be open standards, but Apple backtracked on FaceTime at least. Pretty much assumed they did with AirPlay too since we never saw any compatible devices and Apple tried to shutdown some of the early Mac "apps" that supported play back with AirPlay.

Airplay has been somewhat open for a long time. There are devices like 3rd party speakers that support it.
