Yep. Flash is the one thing, that bothers me about the iPhone. There are so many Flash sites, which are not viewable on the iPhone (granted, the other platforms are generally only partially successful.)

But Flash is here to stay, and Apple needs to get with the program.

Agreed. Even though Flash isn't a great tool, Apple still needs to integrate it. Apple didn't like MMS and thought people should use e-mail instead, but eventually they gave in. Let's hope the same happens for Flash.

It's not the specs that make me think it's better than the iPhone.

It's the fact that I can have a twitter widget with my SMS on the screen, with a nice sunny weekendy-type wallpaper on it, then with one flick of my finger have a screen with an e-mail widget on it ready for work on Monday. The fact that I can pin photos to the screen in a "photo frame" widget. See what the weather is going to be like over the weekend on my homescreen. Hide all of those icons I don't want, like stocks. You can even pin the music player widget to the homescreen!

Once the hero gets going, and more developers begin creating apps for it.. the possibilities will be endless :D I want one of these so bad.

I'm sorry, but just because something is better than something else doesn't mean it's going to sell more. There have been many MP3 players released since the iPod that do what the iPod does better, but the iPod still completely dominates. Why? Name recognition.

Same thing with Windows, same thing with Budweiser, same thing with iPhone.

I personally have the Android G1 phone. I recently (like 30 mins ago) installed the final hero build of the OS on my phone. Its nice, but not as smooth as you would think it to run. It has hiccups and lots of problems. This is why i came from a G1 to the iPhone 3G S just yesterday :-D

I'd have to disagree. It has to do with what users want, and what their experience is.

Windows was more flexible, and catered better to the needs of corporate clients, and hardware was cheaper, so it sold more.

The iPod is just better integrated and provides a better user experience for the majority of users, so it dominates the market (just like Sony did before.)

Now, for phones, it's the iPhone. It's just better, for more people (it only now became better for me, because of turn-by-turn implementation.)

As to the Home screen: I liked Touch Flo (and the various "cooked" iterations of it.) HTC makes possibly the best UI other than Apple, and they have good graphics.

But in many ways, I find the iPhone's grid easier to use. I have arranged my apps the way I want them, and it's simple, and intuitive.

BTW, that HTC Weather image is pretty, but in reality it's also pretty useless - I can just look outside. And if I want to see the forecast, or another city, I just click the Weather icon on my iPhone :)

You have forgotten that there are people that NEVER see the light of day....:D

Just watched a couple of YouTube videos on HTC Hero and I am sold.

But, iTunes/Apps is the deal maker for me.

sry to bump up an old thread :)

I'm in a process of buying a new phone. I'm already on a iPhone 3GS waiting list here, and have also pre-ordered HTC Hero.

Both of these should be availeble in a week time.

Just thinking the pros and cons about the Hero. The biggest con for me would be the low amount of space. I mean...512megs is a pretty low compared to iPhone. I want to put some music on the device (a lot actually) and of course apps. Is it true that you can't install apps to the micro sd card?

The second thing that i would miss is navigation apps. I had the Navigon app for iPhone 3G for a while before I sold the unit. I really liked it, and I wouldn't like to be without navigation in the phone (Google Maps doesn't count!). Any news on this front about coming software?

Too bad the Samsung Galaxy isn't already available, it would be great :(

I just can't get over the chin on that thing. Imagine waking up to a plastic Jay Leno* every morning!

Hmm a phone with windows mobile is like sex with a prostitute. It might seem like a good compromise for more immediate gratification at the time but in the long run you're in for a life of pain.

I wouldn't dare use something called a 'Hero'. Sounds so Engrish. :D

Also, does the 'Hero' do iTunes and App Store? No? Then the answer is - No!

Well it does the Android Market ;) And I really love the new HTC UI in this phone....hope that Apple would design something as nice but better :)

But I guess i'll go with the 3gs because i already had 3G and bought a lot of nice apps (navigation etc). Maybe next year when android has matured a bit. Mature is always the best ;)

same here. the interface looks nice, but why have they started putting these stupid chins on phones? that can't be comfortable to have in your pocket.

I thought also one of the things about android was that you couldn't install apps into external storage like sd cards, therefore you're restricted to installing into that 1/2gb internal ... if that's true - then its seriously limits the app potential

I have the Android G1 (and the 3GS), and I can tell you the chin is better the way it is than if it were gone. Its not uncomfortable, its not hard to use, its fine.

However battery life on the G1 sucked. And when I say sucked, I mean royally sucked.

Also, while Android has backgrounding, it drags the phone to a halt. My G1 was the least responsive device I have ever used. Fire up a few apps, and the phone crawls and chokes. The Android UI is nice looking, and the devices are good, but my god. Backgrounding = awful. You need a separate task manager app from the marketplace just to kill running apps. Otherwise your phone will crawl.

Does kinda vindicate apples decision as much as some people don't like it ...
The pre suffers a similar fate from what i've read ... maybe when we get multi-core processors in phones then background might work much better

Yes it does. I actually went back to my 3GS because of how sluggish the G1 was. Oh well, Android has a lot of potential, and looks great, but its just not quite there yet.
