HTC today sent out emails and updated its website with a teaser image for an upcoming event that will see the launch of its next flagship device.

The image in question features smartphone components overlaid with a date, and given that HTC is teasing a new smartphone, it would be logical to assume these are HTC components, but as AnandTech points out, HTC's image features iPhone 6 parts.

It is not clear why HTC is teasing its next-generation smartphone with components from an Apple device that's four years old rather than the upcoming device or at least an HTC smartphone, but it's an embarrassing mistake for the company to make.

HTC's May 23 event will likely see the debut of the HTC U12, the successor to the HTC U11.

Update: HTC told CNET that it intentionally used parts from other smartphones to represent the "jumble" of parts that HTC competitors "inelegantly cram into their phones."

This has to be the marketing department using some royalty free (at least I hope they didn't PAY for this image) image for their teaser site.

    Or cheap-o marketing.
Or teasing us indeed to see if people (or experts) would actually notice.
Or just found these parts in some bin and decided to do origami (still, lazy, yes).
Or we go back in time.
Or the Photoshop guy just blatantly copied images from the now-obsolete Google Images service :)

Who can spot the one non-Apple part in that pic?
Yes, there is one in there.

Now we know what happens to an iPhone 6 after a customer recycles it. Awesome collaboration between Apple and HTC to save these parts from a landfill.

Prob just bought some random photographer's image of electronic chips. 99% of people won't give a shıt, other than die-hard fans.

SIM-card tray seems to house some kind of SD Card-slot

You must mean the SIM Tray, which looks to be from a Galaxy.

So is HTC going to make a foldable phone like the iPhone 6?

Great advertising. I had no idea HTC had a new phone coming out, but now I do. It worked.

What are the odds that most people will even know what phone the parts came from? I didn't know they were iPhone 6 parts until I read the headline and article. Hardly embarassing.

What’s even left of their higher ups after Google reportedly took so many of their best people?

Oh god, the response from HTCs marketing is absolutely RICH. “Inelegantly cram,” is how I would describe HTC (or Samsung) engineering. I can’t think of a single person who opens up an iPhone X and says that the internal layout is anything but elegant and precise.

When you have to explain your marketing you’re doing it wrong.

It's brilliant! How else were they going to get macrumors to announce the release date of an HTC phone on the front page?

It's pretty good marketing. Hopefully the phone is any good.

I find this more interesting than apple marketing. I’m sick of tweens not knowing what a computer is or snowflakes dancing on streetcorners. An indecipherable tech angle actually catches my attention now.

Is their CEO for effing real? Inelegantly? Let me tell you something...iPhones are a pleasure to service and repair. Changing a battery or charging port or screen are easily done by a professional or even a gutsy user. HTC devices are beautiful on the outside, but they’re a jumbled mess of an abomination on the inside. Try changing the battery on the HTC M10 without destroying the LCD. Even Samsung phones are pretty elegant on the inside. HTC’s are nightmare phones for any repair technician. What a frickin joke.

No one who has seen the inside of an iPhone 6 or any iPhone, would call the internal design inelegant. That’s laughable.

This is brilliant. Quietly Brilliant. HTC is on every tech page now because of this picture. They even have two pages of Replys on MacRumors. MAC. RUMORS.
