Out of curiosity why are some saying the screen looks like crap?

Pixel density?
The exposure of this particular photo under artificial lighting?
The design of the on screen face?

It's just a screen, which can show anything of course, as long as the pixel density is good, the colours are bright and vivid, then what's the problem?

I appreciate some don't agree with the round format.
The bezel width looks reasonable. Less than the Apple watch, but more than the 360, but of course no area at the bottom like the 360.

What's the issue with the screen?

I agree with you, I don't think there's anything wrong with the screen. In fact, aside from the watch's thickness, it doesn't look too bad. Just not as good as Apple Watch looks.

was really excited to see the moto360 at the Best Buy near me - picked it up and - wow - what a difference from the pictures.

You know, a few people around kept saying that, so I mail ordered a 360 (partly to do development on, partly so I could post about it with personal knowledge).

You're welcome to your opinion, but to me, it looks just as nice in person as in the pictures. It's also not as large as some here claimed it was.

But for a lot of people round automatically equals better, nicer, non geeky.

Yep. Square smartwatches scream geek to me. And I like them, too :)

Does that say OK Google? Hard to read.

It's a reminder of voice input to a new user. The prompt goes away after you have actually said "OK Google" five times.

A competitior to the Apple Watch dissing it. How shocking!

Until Google makes Android Wear work on an iPhone, and Apple actually allows it to do some decent stuff, they're not competitors.

I seriously disagree. All of these watches link to a phone and an ecosystem. Apple will leverage the Apple Watch as another tool to sell iPhones or other devices. Android manufacturers will do the same. Their watches are yet another weapon in their arsenal.

Sure, but I think most people choose their phone first. Then they're attracted to a watch or watches that go with it.

Currently, none of the watches are unique enough to cause many people to choose their phone to go with the watch.

Now, if someone actually came out with a watch with say, a magical external glucose reader, or maybe even just an accurate EKG and blood pressure sensor, those might be enough to cause people to choose the watch first, and then a matching phone.

I might be in the minority here but for the longest time I wanted the Moto 360, so I bought it along with a Nexus 5. I wanted the watch first and had to get the phone to make it work.

I don't regret what I did. The Moto 360 is proving to be a great 'supplementary' gadget and I can't wait for it to work with my iPhone 6 Plus too.

Thanks for the post. I can see that happening more and more with some of the nice looking watches coming out.

Hey, how's your battery life?

Thinking I could get a feel for what an Apple watch should be able to do, I turned off the always-on display on my Moto 360 (so now it only turns on when I turn my wrist or touch the screen/button).

So far it's gone through 25 hours of calls, notifications, and lots of time checks, and has 35% battery left. This seems in line with what I've read from others with the latest software release.

My Moto 360 battery life is adequate for me. My typical day of usage is 7am to around 11pm. I get around 11% of battery left by the end of that day and that's with ambient lighting off...and yes, I'd like the watch to turn on just when I turn my wrist to look at it, it works flawlessly. The battery will just get better from here (I just got the watch a few days ago).

I get around a combination of 50 notifications and calls, use 'OK Google' to navigate my driving and make calls during my typical day. No gaming here, but I play around with different watch faces the whole day LOL.

I do not like wearing a phone or any kind of gadget while sleeping so the Moto 360 sits on its awesome wireless charger at night and it's working out great!

I think a solid day is good enough for me. obviously it would be nice to have the screen on 24/7 and last 3-4 days - but the only tech that can do that is the color e-ink - but the colors and resolution is limited on them. Hopefully apple watch will get a SOLID day - fingers crossed!!!

when you had the always-on display - on - what kind of battery life did you get - and what was shown on the watch - full display - or a limited watch with no accouterments (can you post a picture) ?

You can't answer this.

Let me put is this way.
Say I fill my car up with gasoline.
How long will it last before I need to refill it?

A Morning, a Day, a Week, a Month, a Year?

Well, I think you can see what I'm saying here.

So I've heard!

That's partly why I bought this 360 used. The eBay description noted that "its battery was broken in and now charges very fast, and runs for a long time."

The seller wasn't kidding. Like many people, I think I only remembered hearing about early Moto 360 battery problems, and didn't realize there had been excellent software updates since then for that and the Bluetooth connection.

I understand that - it depends on how much you use it. So let me re-phrase - I hope it lasts a solid average day use - better ? ;)

I only got this 360 on the weekend. My plan is to let this test run completely down with no ambient display, then charge it and test again with the display set to always on. I'll post back with the difference.

As for what is displayed: each Android Wear watchface service has two running modes: interactive and ambient.

When active, it uses full color, might show a sweep second hand, display current weather, dancing girls, and so forth. You get the full show.

In ambient mode, a watchface is supposed to use as little power as possible. They stop background data fetches, only update the screen once a minute, and the watch goes into dim backlight mode... which limits the details that can be easily seen.

Many still display almost the same info as in active mode, but some do not, and/or use thinner lines and fewer colors. A photo watchface might drop back to just a digital time display, for instance, so the CPU/GPU don't have to redraw an image that can't be seen too well anyway.

Here's two other examples:

Indeed, it's the Average which is the issue.

I'm busy a lot of the day, and simply do not have time to play with gadgets and see notifications, it would be just the time.

Someone in an office or a company rep would use it vastly more.

We can only wait and see I suppose.

Here's Huawei's attempt at a full faux gold watch. There's just something about these that scream designers and engineers given the brief to copy a high end watch but given next to no budget to do so.

Well, I don't like thick watches either, and that goes for this just as much as the Apple watch.

Out of interest. How thick is this watch compared to the Apple one?

Looks okay to me. Heck, Apple had billions they could budget, and they still came up with a thick rounded rectangle.

According to their website, the Huawei watch is 11.3mm thick.

One guess at the Apple watch dimensions came up with 10.6mm thick (plus another 2mm for the heartbeat sensor bulge).

Here's the watchface I used in testing the Moto 360. (Sorry, I scaled down the images. They look better in person.) The main difference is no sweep second hand in ambient mode.

It ran:

* 35.5 hours until 13% battery left, with the ambient display turned off.

* 24 hours until 12% battery left, with the ambient display turned on.

It only took about 45 minutes to recharge to 70%, and maybe double that to fully charge. I lost track a bit.

To my disappointment, the ambient display still turned off at times, so it didn't run truly constantly. Something about this watchface code. I need to try a different one.

I've heard a few people say the Apple Watch is ugly' i'm glad they have a choice now to buy this huawei crap......I want everyone to be happy not just me, can't wait to get the Apple Watch :D

The Apple Watch is even thicker (11.5mm) than Huawei's 11.3mm design. For obvious reasons, Apple does not highlight this aspect of the Watch's design. You won't find any mention of the thickness on Apple's web site.

The Apple Watch is 67% thicker than the iPhone 6. Think about that for a moment.

Except of course Apple's website shows plenty of side profiles so they're clearly not hiding it. Do you have dimensions of each to know which one is thickest?
