I don't see how you could mistake it for something Apple does not have. That aside, Huawei is producing some incredible devices at the moment. Even if they were copying Apple, the reality is, it will be better. Hardware-wise, more than software.
I would be surprised if Apple didn’t already have a bunch of prototypes kicking around in a lab for a while. It only takes one leaker and all the infamous Chinese IP stealers could have their own version ready to sell in a matter of months.

I’m sure if there was any R&D they could get ahold of, they did. I know you’re trying to be funny, but industrial espionage is a real thing and China is a major player in that field.

A skeptic might say that if all the R&D was already done somewhere in China (implying the Chinese copied) then Apple should be able to release the product immediately. If all the pieces are supposedly ready, why can’t they just put them together?

Has it ever occurred to you that maybe the Chinese have their own R&D too? Just a thought… 🤷🏻‍♂️

Has it ever crossed your mind that Apple’s PR advertises features they can’t actually deliver? 😱

The iPad is a tablet first, all those stupid accessories came because for the last 10 years the "tech community" want it to be a Mac.

Don't have the energy to get into it, you're absolutely right, have a great day.

Or they were working on this long before Apple and that’s why they beat them to market

Unless you have some evidence that shows otherwise?

Chinese companies are seemingly way ahead of Apple and Google at making innovative devices.
And the Chinese automotive industry is pulling ahead, too.

However, in this case I think Huawei is more imitating Apple than anything else.

Apple is not slow (no matter how many cry about it), but it is very careful, as a business, to change its established product categories.

If they were working on this for a while already, there would have been rumours floating around here.

Apple is known to spend years working on a product, and the Chinese generally tend to copy them. But since we don’t know for sure what’s happening behind closed doors, we can only speculate.

Not just talking about Huawei in "exceeding technology" over Apple regarding cell phones/ipads. I went to China last year and saw a whole bunch of bullet trains all over, and they were working just fine and your drink doesn't even fall over. US couldn't build a bullet train even you gave them the money to do it. Automotive technology has been expanded as well with all the cars, especially from Huawei and Xiaomi.

Hope the Apple foldable will have better resolution. That could make it a good Sidecar for a MacBook Pro.

To be clear, you are saying that you indeed have no evidence that they weren’t working on a device like this before Apple.

You’ve just decided to speculate that it’s the other way around because it’s a trope that “the Chinese” copy Apple.

Well, in Germany we have this for 124 years already:
Awesome, never knew that :) Thank you for teaching me. That looks really cool! However, this too, with an established company like Apple, they should had the time to innovate more (as well as charge more, of course). Just like the United States should have innovated more, and used bullet trains for example for people, instead of still using the railroad system to ship products. All the countries should innovate more and try to help each other, as well as the people inside it.

I merely pointed out the likelihood that they are imitating, based on previous behaviour. I am, however, open to evidence indicating otherwise. If it matters so much to you, prove me wrong!

Chinese company Huawei, a major Apple competitor in China, today introduced the launch of the MateBook Fold, an ultra light and thin folding computer. Huawei tends to be fond of Apple aesthetics, so the MateBook Fold and the marketing materials that go along with it have an Apple vibe.

Apple is rumored to be working on a device that's not too far off from what Huawei is showing off, with rumors suggesting that Apple will come out with some kind of dual-screen foldable that's around 13 inches. Some rumors call it an iPad, and some call it a MacBook, but it'll come down to operating system.

Huawei says that the MateBook Fold brings "ultimate aesthetics" and represents the "peak of creation" with an "amazing opening and closing" mechanism. The MateBook is 13 inches when it's closed, but it opens to a dual-layer 18-inch OLED display with a 3.3K resolution and 1600 nits peak brightness. It features what Huawei calls a "water drop" hinge, that's able to open up to lay flat or hover at different angles so the device can be used as a tablet in landscape or portrait mode or as a dual display notebook.

While the MateBook Fold comes with a separate keyboard, it also has an on-screen version that can be activated by touching eight fingers to the display. The virtual keyboard can be used when the device is flat or when it's folded in a notebook orientation.

The MateBook Fold is just over two and a half pounds, and it is 7.3mm when unfolded and 14.9mm when folded up. When open, it's thinner than an iPhone 16 Pro Max, but not as thin as Apple's 13-inch iPad Pro.

Huawei is selling the MateBook Fold starting at 23,999 Chinese Yuan, which equates to about $3,330. It's not for sale in the United States, and you can only get it in China right now.

As for Apple's foldable notebook or iPad, it's rumored to be coming sometime around 2027. It too is expected to have a screen that's over 18 inches when unfolded, and it will be able to function as either a display with an attached keyboard, or a more traditional notebook when folded in half. More rumors can be found in our Apple foldable iPad guide.

I’m all for new tech but if you spend $3,300 on this you’re kind of insane and masochistic.

That’s not how proof works.

If you want to claim that they are copying Apple, when Apple doesnt even have such a product, it’s up to you to prove that, not the other way around.

Just because you think it’s likely based on your perception of supposed past behaviour does not change the burden of proof.

Do you want an example for a really "insane and masochistic" buy: an iPad pro 13 with keyboard and pen WITHOUT Apple Care can be configured right now in the German Apple Store for up to 3,687 Euros.

Ok, if you want to be petty, originally I didn’t claim they’re copying Apple, I replied to a claim stating the opposite.

I don't think they're copying rumor designs. That's silly and insulting. They're spending a ton of R&D to bring futuristic designs happen years before Apple.

You don't think Apple has all the Chinese folding devices in their labs to copy and study?
Yeah, their UI looking exactly like iPadOS is just a coincidence.
