That is definitely a matte screen, go back into the Apple store or call them and explain the situation, I'm sure they'll be more than happy to sort out the mistake for you and they may even provide you with a discount for your trouble.

its beyond me why anyone would even WANT a glossy screen:rolleyes:

I'll thank you to post your unhelpful comments in other threads please. As folks have said ENOUGH ALREADY.

Unfortunately can't make it into a physical store. Will have to sort this one out over the phone. Plus I'm flying out with the Mrs on Wednesday so will be a away for a bit (at in-laws for easter which is why I was so desperate to get my machine in time :p)

Anyone had any 1st hand experience with scoring a discount due to Apple screwups? Just wondering what % to push for ;)

Just realised I might be in a position to review matte & glossy side by side if I get to hold onto this whilst waiting for the slow boat from China again..

Danger is that I'll end up sending back the glossy though LOL :D Just gotta make sure I get enough discount to cover the restocking fee then...:p

There shouldn't be a restocking fee if it is their mistake.

i just really dont get whats so great about the glossy screens, thats all im saying...geeze you guys are so mean...

im going to cry now

you lucked out. Your misjudgement on the screen finish was corrected by apple. This is ilife baby.

That definitely looks matte to me, get apple to exchange it without the restocking fee.

Look at the box. If it's gloss it will say __-inch glossy widescreen if it is.

And that looks matte. Glossy is like shiny.

The glossy vs. matte fanboyism is getting very old very fast.

That is a matte screen in the OP. I chose glossy out of personnal preference. Not because it makes me a better person.

Hey, I completely agree.
I think it's just a matter of personal preference and to each his own.

I just thought that that posters comment wasn't necessary.

excuse me, i was just asking what the appeal was for glossy screens, god you people are so sensitive

17" LED backlit Glossy owners... what's the viewing angles like on your screen??

I have the screen on max tilt and if I lean back in my chair the colour change is quite noticeable. Same if I move my head from the centre of the screen to either edge. Don't think my glossy Vaio did that quite so much, will have to fire up the old dog in the morning.

I had to wait since 3/5 for MacConnection to ship out a Glossy 15.4" for me. It finally arrives tomorrow!

The rebate form has manufacturer #s for every new MacBook Pro, I have to believe they are on the box somewhere.

Standard Matte MacBook Pros look like this:
MB133LL/A (2.4ghz 15.4" Matte)
MB166LL/A (2.5 ghz 17" Matte)

Glossy have way different part #s:
Z0E7GLOSSY (2.4ghz 15.4" Glossy)
Z0F2GLOSSY (2.5ghz 17" Glossy)

keep the matte, it is more usable when on low brightness to preserve battery, on the glossy you need to turn it up quite a ways to not see yourself.

yeah, poor you. how dare those overly sensitive meanies get upset with you for trying to derail a good, on-topic thread and turn it into yet another matte vs. glossy debate.

seriously, why try to resurrect that poor horse that's been beaten to death countless times here?

anyway, i went from a macbook to a matte mbp because i found myself traveling more and using it in places where the glossy was starting to bother me. if that's not the case for you, and seeing as how you already have another glossy notebook and know what it's like, i think you should probably stick with glossy and have apple replace it for you.

Get a sheet of static cling plastic used to cover food and tape it over your screen. That should do until the real deal arrives.

Ignoring the Matte V Glossy battle, if I were you, I would demand that they ship you the proper computer before you return yours. Their mistake shouldn't be your problem.

And that is NOT a glossy. I have owned the two at the same time (matte v glossy) and the Macbook Pro's glossy screen is one of the glossiest out there, rivaling the Imac.

Well I have to bottle up my anger until 8am now as the store is now closed. Maybe not a bad thing as I'll probably be somewhat more civil in the morning! ;)

Maybe I should at least push for a 5400 -> 7200 upgrade hehe

btw apple store isn't open till 10
genius bar opens at 11

People just like rich, darker colors, and sharper images, so people get glossy (i am not trying/starting this debate over again) Some people can handle the glare, some people can't basically. All about preference.

To OP

It's matte. Was your MBP a BTO one or just stock?
I would call apple to get this thing sorted out. BTO maybe be a bit harder though

I love how people are saying "I think that's glossy."

COME ON! There's no doubt that Apple goofed up on this on.

My fiancee's iMac is a glossy (newest model), and that thing is kick-butt. It's nice to have a glossy around every now and then. It sure is nice for watching movies ... all 24" of it.

since you have owned both which one did you like better?

and ya kinda got hosed on the order. ive been there with many orders. in fact i just placed and order and it got goofed up. why me??? i feel your pain. and as others have said, ask the right people and you will have no problem with replacement, although i dont know about any discount for their goof up.

Yup, they messed up. Call up and explain and tell them you want a discount because now you can't do your work for another X weeks. Apple screwed up and you deserve to be compensated. I prefer Matte, and if I ordered Matte and got glossy I'd freak!

Are you reading MacRumors with Bizarro Safari or something? I went back and re-read every post just to make sure. EVERYBODY said that it's matte and Apple made a mistake. What are you talking about?

Anyway, OP, insist on keeping the one they sent you until you get your replacement. If they refuse, then definitely ask for some sort of discount or compensation for the time lost and your trouble. Even if they let you keep the current one, won't hurt to ask for a discount anyway right? :D

i guess its all a matter of opinion, we set my MBP right next to my friends Glossy mbp and opened the same picture (was showing a co-worker the difference as she was trying to decided if she wanted a macbook) and the images looked almost exactly the same, only difference, you could see the reflections of the florescent lighting in his and not in mine...so i guess this is why i dont understand the appeal of glossy screens

Some people like Glossy latex paint, some prefer flat
some like Glossy Photo's others don't.
For a long time the entire computer industry was all about Anti-Glare now there are some laptop mfg's who don't make a non-glossy option.

Most people that like Glossy like it because it appears to make the colors on the screen Deeper and richer...same reason why most people prefer their cars with a layer of clearcote over the paint.

Some times you feel like a nut....
