Sounds to me like Apple is building the automobile to specifications just to have a car to test their secret software on.

Apple is not going to be making cars. Not enough profit margin in it.

Let us assume it is true. How will apple sell this?

Like iPhone by forcing a new model on how carriers did business?

Or

Like Apple Pay by going along with the existing infrastructure?

I think it will be more the latter given all the trouble Tesla had with state regulators and car dealerships.

Unless, unless, they mix it up and let dealership compete for its business so Apple can control the terms like fixed prices.

There you go, secret lab? Secret project? There is no such thing as secret project under Tim Cook.

Anyway, I don't see a car coming from an Apple Store. Is just a side project to keep Jony Ive entertain and inside Apple.

How about hundred of engineers to keep iOS and OSX bug free?

They will sell and service it at the Apple Store.

And it will be milled from a solid block of aluminum.

I have a tough time believing that Apple is suddenly going to get into the car business......BUT:

1) Us in 2004: I have a tough time believing that Apple is suddenly going to get into the phone business.

2) Apple is always looking for something new to disrupt - what is more ripe than the car? Apple is a green company, they are active in trying to make a positive environmental impact - maybe this is where it gets big for them?

3) Tesla....Toyota....electric cars are too big for Apple. Apple has more money than our own country. And they've proven they don't have to be "first," they just have to get it right. Electric cars are not new....

So, like buying a lottery ticket, I'll play into the fantasy for a few. Who knows.

Finally a car WITHOUT WINDOWS!!

Battery life: 10 hours standby. 35 minutes usage. The incredible Apple Car

Even more important is where will this car be made?

It will be made in USA. If it was cheaper/better to make cars in China, Ford/GM/etc will be making their cars there, not here. In fact, foreign car companies make their own cars in the states! There's obviously a good reason for that.

They will be available in Gold, Slate grey and White. Will be equipped with lightning connectors for charging and windows will be an optional extra.

There is a good reason it is the only way they allowed to market their cars in the US.

Well if there's one industry that needs a revolution in the purchasing process , it's automobiles. If they ever made a car, surely this part of the equation would be reimagined.

I'm doubtful, but if Apple are making a car, I hope it is truly disruptive. Maybe they are the rumoured non-car industry partner for Gordon Murray's iSTREAM process. To quote Gordon Murray:

Gordon Murray said:
iStream gives a newcomer a chance to leapfrog OEMs, so for them, not only are they catching up, they have a structure that’s lighter, stiffer, more durable, safer and more flexible from the point of view of product strategy

Gordon Murray said:
a full suite of tools, to help somebody get from an idea on a bit of paper to the cars coming off the line. We could very, very simply make an Apple or a Google or a Sony or anything like that. And because iStream doesn’t need the massive investment that stamped steel does, the risk – there will always be a risk – is but a fraction of what it would be if they tried to do it any other way.

Best comment in here. Automobile software systems, not entire cars.

Just imagine people waiting in line for days to buy an Apple car. And they'll only sell it in the US at first, so there will be tens of thousands of line sitters buying up all available stock for the scalpers to sell overseas.

How long before fanboys of [insert your favorite car company] start trolling on Apple article message boards like samsung/microsoft/android/nokia/blackberry/PC fanboys?
