Aaron Sorkin was right to emphasize the line "I don't belong here" from The Social Network (movie about Mark Zuckerberg) promo trailer.

Alas there is no facebook clone out there other than Diaspora.

And people still use and trust Facebook. The dumbasses that gave out their phone numbers almost deserve this.

But do we know that all of these numbers were voluntarily given? How many people with your or my phone number in their contacts might have given FB access to their contacts in the past? Not difficult for FB to have linked those scraped details to an existing FB account by matching the email address.

Glad I dumped them a while back, so flipping annoyed my sister and brother in law insist on using Wattsapp despite having iPhones!!!!!!!

Where I come from WhatsApp is ubiquitous, even businesses use it, it is also multiplatform and it allowed for free international calling way before other apps did, for that reason it is very popular and I consciously use it.

Facebook on the other hand, I hate it. I do have a profile but I rarely access it, it does not contain my real personal information and the only reason I have it is to keep contact with my friends and family abroad (I travel extensively) and for some meme-watching sporadically.

I’m thinking this would be an easy class action. I think we’ve all been hammered by robo calls. Wonder how they got the numbers?

It is a lost cause. There is simply no such thing as privacy anymore. It simply doesn't exist.
I think this is half true.

No, you can’t protect yourself completely, certainly not from a skilled attacker. But you can do common-sense things - like not putting your phone number on a public platform known for terrible user security - that make you less of a low-hanging fruit for people just looking for an easy victim. Similar to home security — a dog and good deadbolts won’t stop a skilled burglar who really wants to target you specifically, but you’re a lot more likely to discourage the unsophisticated burglar looking for a fast score than a guy who leaves his door wide open when he leaves the house.

Ahhh the times when internet was dumb...
Not it got smart and people got dumber... I would never add my phone number to FB or any social media.

FB is the a platform which really disgusts me. The only reason I am keeping it is because of some friends and relatives using it in other countries.
Doesn't Facebook require you to add a mobile number to keep using it? I think I added mine for the 2FA but not sure.

The scariest part about this is not Facebook, but the 100's of companies that have our data without the level and quantity of security engineers as Facebook, Google, Amazon and others. I hope no one thinks banks, insurance companies, medical companies, and others have the best security engineers or even those on the second or third tier or worse. The scary reality is them thinking no one will want their data or that they are 100% protected.

I hope this gets global coverage and a movement is started to close down FaceBook accounts.

Here’s hoping....
Most people are stupid and lazy. It will never happen.

Besides, one less place for the self-absorbed outrage junkies get their fix. They need it to get through their miserable lives.
