Facebook's wanton disregard for its users' privacy is appalling. I deleted my Facebook and Instagram accounts last year and am much happier and feel much more secure for it.

I thought Facebook was now fully capable of tracking people who were past-users or even those who have never had an account - through tracking cookies, pixels, cameras, license plate reader data etc. I remember reading somewhere that actually having a Facebook account at least gives you a semblance of some (limited) control over what Facebook does with their data, as opposed to people who delete their account and thus sever any lines of accountability from Facebook towards them.

luckily it was old data, and everyone changes their phone number every year anyway. \s

bad Facebook, bad! I'm sure the elections will be safe this time, right?

... SIM-hacking, which involves calling a phone carrier and asking for a SIM transfer for a specific number, thereby giving access to anything linked to that phone number, such as two-factor verification, password reset info, and more.
Can you be more specific? I'm having a hard time imagining how that'd be possible.

Ok everyone! On the count of three! One. Two. Three!...

“We’re disgusted by Facebook! Bunch of criminals! How people continue to trust them is beyond me. I only use it to stay in touch with relatives overseas. And high school friends. And my job has a page. And wall posting is fun. And so many people I know use WhatsApp. And...”

FB is the a platform which really disgusts me. The only reason I am keeping it is because of some friends and relatives using it in other countries.
See above. If you cared enough you’d use any of a myriad other ways to stay in touch. FB is counting on your behavior to keep going.

You can blame FB for many things, but not for your stupidity. If your are still using FB, sorry but that’s on you.

It’s like smoking. Everyone know the harms of using it.

This has nothing to do with whether a person is still using FB or not. The leak contains years-old data.

The problem is that companies (FB, Equifax, etc.) are not appropriately held accountable for their continued lack of security. I'm usually a proponent of smaller government, but this is a place where we need big bro oversight.

Obviously that $5M fine means nothing. I understand this was from an old database before FB changed it's phone number policy but c'mon.

I always loved that Facebook would consistently ask me to add my phone number to my account. I never did provide it to them, even though they probably already know everything else about me.
