Since you have no idea what you're talking about...

Salaried employees have benefits and disadvantages over non-exempt. Exempt employees don’t work for free…they work for a salary. The expectation is 40 hours min with no additional compensation for > 40.

I'm hopeful this would bring the end of the Musk cult, but not entirely sure. Way too many people would willingly be indentured servants/slaves for a spot on his trip to Mars - which with his management style would end in the first case of cannibalism on Mars.

Just because you are somehow fine with working 70-75 hours a week, doesn’t and shouldn’t make it the norm. In fact, we thankfully have proper laws and that would be totally illegal here.

Who said it’s the norm? There are just driven individuals versus people that don’t have a like minded work drive.

Like I’ve already written, they can stay and he gave them a choice. It’s not for everyone or even most people.
Even here in Florida, Chick-Fil-A is trying out a 13-14 hour work day. They say it’s for “balance of work/life”, but don’t try to tell me some of those workers aren’t going to pick up a second job and work 70+ hours to make ends meet in the high price housing market here in Florida.

When you go from working 40 to 80 hours with no salary increase, you just took a 50% pay cut... I have been an exempt salaried employee for over 20 years at many companies. I know now it works.

Since when an allegation automatically became the truth? And I don’t know which plant you are talking about, but you wanna talk about harsh working condition? Haven’t you seen the working condition at Foxconn and other Apple manufacturers?

Of course, you will argue that Foxconn is not Apple, but phone manufacturing and auto manufacturing are completely different. There are reasons why auto assembly is not extensively outsourced.

Do you even know how many lawsuits Apple have on their hands? Why don’t you do 5 seconds of research? Companies get sued all the time for various reasons, and those lawsuits are not barometers for bad companies.
Why are we now talking about Apple?

Keep moving those goalposts though….

What a problematic response. What Elon is pushing here is clearly wage theft. He's exposed Twitter to so much liability from the folks he has fired, I'll be surprised if he doesn't end up with a class action employment lawsuit.

Seriously, @Seoras, you should feel bad about the anti-worker sentiment in that remark. An employer is not entitled to more work for the same money.
I guess you are unfamiliar with the concept of salary, or difficult times. Today I was supposed to be off work but I am at work because things need to get done. I am salaried. That’s the job. I work as much as needed. If it gets tough I can find a new job. I agreed to these terms. Sometimes it’s really slow and then I might work less hours. Sometimes someone’s kid is sick and I need to cover and work long hours. This is normal life for most people helping the economy run.

What a waste of money. He could have used that money to save humanity or eliminate world hunger. I feel really bad for the people working at Twitter and they have to deal with Elon. The fact it’s around Thanksgiving and holidays time makes it worst. I believe in Karma and Elon should too. 🧿🪬
Who are you, or any of us, to tell Elon how to spend his money? And if you think only $44B will solve world hunger, why hasn't it been solved before now? Good on you for believing in Karma. Maybe someone will judge you on how you spend your money.

I love this detail paraphrased from the NYT story.... Musk and his team held meetings this afternoon with key undecided employees to try to persuade them to stay. Employees were summoned to a conference room in the San Francisco office while others called in via videoconference. As the 5 p.m. deadline passed, some who had called in began hanging up, seemingly having decided to leave, even as Mr. Musk continued speaking.
Interesting detail!

Sometimes CEOs and the likes think they are ever powerful, forgetting that their company is also run by workers. In capitalism, we’ve over emphasized capital and not only forgotten about labor, but have actively seem to hide labor in many ways that when something productive happens, it seems to just magically appear because of capital.

I bet the ones that stay, work hard and excel will get VERY RICH

I know - something hard to understand for those who are offended when it rains

And, who try to crap on everyone else’s success
How about you give your employees that option and not force it upon everyone. It's possible to work hard for 40 hours a week... and here's a strange concept.. get PAID for working 40 hours. Some of us have a family and want to enjoy that part of our lives. If you want to work 80 hours a week and "get rich", thats fine, but don't crap on the rest of the hard working people.

And by the way, MANY successful companies are out there who don't overwork their staff.

We don’t want him to fail. We want him to do the right thing. Clearly, Elon isn’t doing that. So much has happened within the last 2 weeks and I’m sure there are a lot of people that are not happy with him. So far he has brought nothing valuable to Twitter. Money is not the answer to everything. I also believe he does not know exactly what he is doing. For example: $8 Verification fee.
Twitter is not profitable. He is trying to bring that to Twitter and it will not happen in one day.

Did you even read the email Musk sent? Employees who opt to quit get 3 months severance.

And before you praise him for being so generous, consider that this approach of chasing people off with threats of making the workplace unsuitable for people could result in lawsuits. Offering severance means they have to sign an acceptance letter that typically includes forfeiting any legal recourse in response to quitting/being laid off.

Typically many companies (estimated at 50% of US companies)require you to sign an arbitration agreement upon employment. SpaceX does and this is the norm for Musk’s companies. So the arbitration forfeiting legal action they sign in lieu of accepting severance when they QUIT, is quite normal.

The workers he actually fired on short notice? That’s another story and obviously already has pending litigation.

Apparently Twitter employees were told (with no explanation as to why) that all office buildings are closed and not to come back to until Nov 21. And employees responsible for critical infrastructure and keeping the service running have quit. I get the feeling even people who were cheering Musk on (because they thought all he’d do is nuke the content moderation teams) are like WTF.
Everyone knew that Twitter had/has much larger problems than content moderation. Twitter employees were told that, were they not to agree with Elon's work requirements, they would be paid 3 months severance. How is that not informing them not to report to work?

It's remarkable how many people worship Elon's "success." This is a person who has never had to worry about the consequences of his own failure actually harming his ability to survive demanding that everybody else damage their lives and relationships so that the BILLIONAIRE can "succeed"?

No thanks.
Do you even know his history? You probably also bash Donald Trump. It truly sound like jealousy. Elon has worked very hard to get where he is. Just look at what he has accomplished. People like me don't "worship" him, but are aware of his accomplishments, and are grateful for his success and ability to shape whole industries.

I was wrong. The cult of Musk is strong. Just this time it’s on the other side of the political spectrum. No doubt Twitter workforce was bloated and needed to be shrunk. But the way Musk is going about it is not thoughtful or intentional. He doesn’t know what the heck he’s doing. He’s winging it.

Good. Seriously, Twitter seems full of low-performance teams. Maybe it's just the difference between generations, but their lack of a can-do, get-it-done attitude and no sense of real urgency shows that management there was basically really poor.

Twitter employees were feeding off the gravy train.

That's fine and good until a boss with actual skin in the game takes over.
