So that nine years of my life were just a dream, not it isn't aways the case.
then that is on you....if you worked below the industry norms.....no one forced you to do that. There are other postions to be had. Then maybe you were just bad at salary negotiation?

Or dear, the employees think this an unreasonable amount of time to be in the office. Working a five day week, 8 hours per day, this is the typical working hours for office work .
You’re forgetting that the previous CEO allowed them to work at home for years. People moved, people adapted, for many it wasn’t feasible to go back into the office.

How do so many people miss this fact? They aren’t complaining that they have to work 40 hours a week.

Except they were hired with the expectation that they would work from home. This changes the terms of employment that they were hired under.

So they’re quitting which is their right. Twitter is giving them severance. Why is this front page news all over the world? Amazon and Meta are laying off tens of thousands and that’s not getting the scrutiny that people freely quitting Twitter are. Why?

as you should.....but them maybe...just maybe.... this is a ploy to see who is ready to jump ship at the first sign of conflict. I doubt very much any company will tell their employees they will have to work double shifts from now on going forward. They would efectively elimate themselves from hiring anyone new at that point.
This was meant to do other things......
At least from what we are seeing/hearing, Twitter has become a toxic place to work.

or maybe there is a change in cuture going on and people just do not like that change. So they do what comes natural...they complain and the media is happy to run with anything negative that drives more traffic to their media outlets....

The people who stay will be people who think they'd have a hard time finding another job. People with impeccable credentials and abilities will have no trouble finding a new job.
Unless they are women, or handicapped, or a person of color, or jewish, or muslim, or ...

You really can't forget not everyone can switch jobs easily, no matter how smart and capable they are.

So this is what real time destruction of 44 billion dollars looks like.

I would have guessed it would have taken much longer.

But Enron is the business genius in this sense too.

First sign of conflict? What do you think has been going on since Musk took over? All it has been is conflict...lol

While it's fun to watch Musk crash and burn, it really sucks that thousands of people are losing their livelihood's because of his stupid actions, and right before the holidays. With tens of thousands of other tech workers from Amazon, Facebook, and others recently let go, it's going to be hard getting a job in the industry for some time.

Where do I sign up?

I already work about 70-75 hours a week at a pretty damn high intensity.

It’s his company now. He can run it how he sees fit.

And for all of you that are against this proposition of his or against his style…

How do you know he isn’t just weeding out the lazy a$$e$ up front that will flee at the mention of hard work? Afterwards, he will treat those that stuck by his side with a lot more leniency but still require production?
Owning his own company doesn’t mean he also owns the workers. There are obligations, ethics, and norms in working with existing employees. That is, there are rights. Rights of ownership does not necessarily overrule other rights. Ownership isn’t kingship, and even as king, kings have obligations to society and subjects.

He could have used that money to save humanity or eliminate world hunger.
How do you eliminate hunger with $44 billion? That's like $50 one time payment per each hungry person. Assuming the NGOs you give the money to don't waste half of it (which they will).

Not to mention, someone took that money from Musk, so they can donate it to charity too.

exactly.....what happens during a culture change? Conflict and change is the way business is handled after most take overs.
This is how they see who has roots and wants to adapt and change. The one constant thing in any technology company is constant change.....

Every third post in my twitter timeline has the word Mastadon in it.

Not sure Mastadon will take over but FULL ON sure Twitter will crash and burn with Enron in charge.

your idea of “long hours”
I'm from Europe, "long hours" is anything above 35h per week for me. The US labor system is terrifying.

I run a small IT business (15 people). Funny enough, our product is a social networking solution. Nobody works overtime, weekend shifts (tech support) are volunteer basis + double paid and everybody works from home. I wouldn't have it any other way even knowing that squeezing my team harder would yield more revenue. That's probably why I'll never be filthy rich :p

I wonder if Musk watched the movie 'Pretty Woman' and thought he would want to be the kind of person that the actor Richard Gere portrayed, a ruthless business man who had it all, the money, the clothes, the cars, the houses, the women.

What a problematic response. What Elon is pushing here is clearly wage theft. He's exposed Twitter to so much liability from the folks he has fired, I'll be surprised if he doesn't end up with a class action employment lawsuit.

Seriously, @Seoras, you should feel bad about the anti-worker sentiment in that remark. An employer is not entitled to more work for the same money.
Yea I'd like to know if these are salaried employees, and he's trying to shaft them out of OT for like 80+ hours?

That's simply not true. Musk has a long history of overworking people on a very regular basis and treating them like crap. Their turnover rate is unusually high and they've sued a number of times over the mistreatment and worker rights violations.

This isn't some test and it's ignorant to even suggest such. This is about a billionaire that acted a fool and bought a company for billions more than it was valued at, and he's not trying to keep a ship alive that he, himself, is actively shooting holes in at the same time.
