But Craig's List was run by 20 people!!!!

Well said, it truly has shown, almost like a Rorschach test of what:

A) People know what it takes to keep Twitter up.

B) How some value people and their jobs.

Sad.

Well it basically depends on if the Twitter moderation staff are employee's or 3rd party hired contractors because reporters like to stretch the true sometimes in that the actually number of employees a company has can also include 3rd party contractors. Twitter will have thousands of moderators around the world who are native speakers of the countries Twitter is used in. Now are these being classed as employee's or 3rd party contractors because if they are classed as 3rd party contractors then i agree with you that 7,500 employee's to run a social media company is a bit excissive.
There WERE 7500 employees plus just over 5000 contractors, he fired half the employees first, then 4000 of the contractors over last weekend. Last night we had QuitFest, where they lost over a 1000 at least. Whole departments are gone, there are languages who have no twitter support now. This is not a company who is going to be bringing in a bunch of advertisements, and as I pointed out earlier, the $8 a month checkmark is a loss leader, so its in a bad spiral and Elon isn't very good at getting himself out of jams.

If one side is literally lying and spreading misinformation much more than another side(and yes multiple studies found that right wing leaning user and media were sharing MASSIVLEY more false and misleading info) then they ill be acted on more. Even more so when that's often the side trying to imply that violence is a proper solution to arguments.

"Authors of the study followed 9,000 politically engaged Twitter users, half Democratic and half Republican, in October 2020. The authors continued keeping track of their Twitter habits for six months after the 2020 election.

The study did find a disparity between how many users from each party were suspended — 7.7% of the Democrats compared to 35.6% of Republicans.

Republicans on Twitter, however, “shared substantially more news from misinformation,” the study found."

The bias wasn't left/right due to politics, it was that the Right simply spread more lies. Stop lying and they would get banned less... easy solution they seemingly want to ignore. Same issue the Right took with Google search results. They do things most people(western world has a left lean, thats just a fact) don't like and they get negative headlines, but were confused by that and blamed Googles algorithm instead of just thinking "hmm maybe I should do LESS things that people don't like...or do MORE things people DO like to balance it out..." They seem to only want to ever see NICE stories, not ACCURATE stories if you google them.

Reminds me when Elon had to police his own tweet when he tweeted lies about the Pelosi attack.

He didn’t make any of that stuff. Does he make it via osmosis? You get credit for making something just because you’re the CEO? What about the efforts of other people?
It’s scary what marketing can do. Give you education, skills and achievements that aren’t yours.

Obviously, he helped fund the stuff Tesla has put out, sort of. But anyone who’s read his research works knows that he’s neither a scientist or an academic, and he’s certainly not inventing anything that actually works.

Just go through the story on how he “invented” maglev vactrains for his Hyperloop project.

Absolute buffoonery that never has and never will materialize into anything at all.

I’m also pretty certain most people who know about Elon are sure he founded Tesla and invented or reinvented the electric car.

Or PayPal.

Best con of the last two decades. I’ll give him that with no caveats.

80 hour week at SpaceX? I’m curious what their salary is, then. If it’s high, well, sounds okay to me.
Not great, cost of living is expensive by Starbase these days, average employee stays about 2 years, engineers make less per hour then the manager of the McDonalds there, because they work 80+ hours a week and the McDonalds guy only works 50 or so. I have 5 ex-SpaceX currently on Staff, and they all make more money, work fewer hours and have a much better home life then when they worked for SpaceX.

Could you explain this part? How would this math work for the general case, say, I’ve got a team of 50.
Full staffing 16 people however group but it’s broken down into 4 distinctive groups. 4 people
4-1.65 = 2.35. Round up to 3
The reason we shifted to this was based on a breakdown of the areas vs department.
Based on department 16 - 6.25 = 9.4. Round up to 10. 2.5 means cross training into other areas which spreads people thin and affects productivity.
On average each person gets 310 hours off a year.
We work 12 hour shifts and 2 hours of break per shift.
Within those 10 hours each employee will have forced 10 minute breaks per 50 minutes of computer usage, about another 30to 40 minutes affecting productivity.
In studies I’ve been part of productivity is roughly 45 minutes per hour, not the 90 minutes per hour the overloads want, lol. The human is a wasteful commodity.

A group of 50. What needs to be determined is how the team is aligned, a realistic analysis of productivity. Some call it lean amongst other names. Evaluate what is truly needed. Start with meetings, lol. How many of those 50 are doing the same type of work?

In our case part of our group is office and part is factory. We lose a great deal of time when the technicians have to go from tool to tool, factory to factory and so on.
Green to green, availability and utilization of the tools helps determine head count is needed.
The office group is based based on other factors.
This company has experimented with multiple models and such.

No, this is not how you do any of that stuff. This is how you acquire a class action lawsuit from all of the people you mistreated, bullied, and fired.
Try being a new hire at a VC or investment bank. Long hours, pressure and mistreatment are just the fuel to excel.

I can’t believe people worship any celeb, or company. Like Apple. But here we are.

The problem is you think there’s only two sides of coin, worshippers and haters. Bad Musk, good Musk. He’s a guy, not Avenger/Villain. Might be because he’s more right leaning? As an European, it’s crazy to watch your nation divided in two, shaping your thoughts in everyday’s life. Seems like there’s no respect.
Sad but true observation. The USA is very much divided into two different culture-nations. When in 1861 the American Civil War began.... refresh my memory, which side did you Europeans side with? 😆

I agrees the easy offended and leaving twitter and that includes the one who work at Twitter. Twitter will just become a better place in the long run. Get rid of the trash first. :)
How is there even a Twitter “in the long run” when the “trash” that is leaving or getting fired is actually running the machinery behind the scenes and no advertisers want to associate with the owner of the company? And no users want to pay $8/month for something that was free for more than ten years?

If Elon didn’t need the “trash” then he would have fired everyone post his takeover. And he certainly wouldn’t have backtracked on his whole “hardcore work hours to save Twitter or leave with severance” plan that 75% of employees hated.

Get your heads out of your Teslabot infested mars fantasies and take an earnest look at the jackass single-handedly running Twitter into ground.

-He’s the owner and calls all the shots yet somehow he’s not potent enough as a leader to make it a success? It’s everyone but his fault? But he’s at the same time a genius? And he’s just too amazing that’s why his Twitter engineers can’t stand him?

Come on!

We know you muskrats love to lick billionaire boots. But do you have to spell it out for us? 👏🤣

It was good to see someone forcing the production of electric cars and shaking up the market but literally everything else he's done just seem pointless and a waste of money. I don't get the point of what he's done with Twitter, it seems like he doesn't have a plan.

Elon's "plan" was simply to masturbate his own Ego. Seems to be working so far.

LMAO. Half of Twitter was hired during the pandemic. What did they make in 1-2 years? Twitter has been the same for 10 years.

They fired a bunch of people who made tik tikvideos and barely worked, probably a lot of weed smoking going on. (Maybe Elon haters personally identify with goofing of all day and stealing company time) I know because there is people like that in my company. And mine actually makes products, can’t imagine what Twitter was like.

Guys, all the obsessive Elon haters told me the site would no longer be working because ‘god’ engineers left.

lmao!! It’s still working, better than ever. Do you predictions ever turn up true?

The math is correct. It’s called the Pareto principle.

Only around 100 people at Twitter are overachievers, who makes the biggest impact on the company. The rest are interchangeable and replaceable.
The math isn't correct for large numbers. Literally that system would show us that there is one overachiever working at each Starbucks in the US, AND NOONE ELSE IN THE U.S. is an overachiever. I don't think thats correct, though I do believe that there is one overachiever in each Starbuck, because every story by a barista at Starbuck, begins about how they are the hardest worker at the Starbucks.

I am an expert in this, literally. My career is as a senior engineer in devops automation and infrastructure for large scale enterprise SaaS products. So I say this as an expert: what musk is doing is going to completely tank the ability for twitter to function

As for why to care? Outside anything else a lot of folks, including friends and acquaintances of a lot of folks on this forum, are getting their lives upended right now. Also the industry as a whole is waffling between headdesking and eating popcorn at the insanity. It’s like a trainwreck, I cant stop watching
There's always other jobs right? So maybe they should start looking or have been proactively looking. Wasn't like they didn't have months and months of a heads up he was coming or that he was coming to "clean house". As much as I respect your degrees and certs and knowledge, I missed hearing you say you had experience as a CEO. Let's be honest, Twitter turned into a haven for Democratic, like minded employees who were all too comfortable in their roles and having the power they were used to wielding. And that included the banning and censoring or people they didn't agree with. Most of this is pouting because they lost their, toys. These people that you mention are your friends and acquaintances have some pretty great resumes I'm imagining. Finding a new job shouldn't be tough. I guess they could of always pooled their money together and paid the $44 BILLION and been the boss??

Wait for Elon's new book: "How to destroy a large corporation in less than 30 days".
Unless we are not getting the whole story, that's what it seems to be happening. Time will tell.
What has he tanked so far in his past? You're the type of person that if he beat everyones expectations and made Twitter bigger and better, you'd come in and say, "I knew he would do it. I always knew".

It’s being reported that employees continued to resign in high numbers after the 50% staff reduction. In response Musk issued his Thursday 5pm ultimatum, but begins to falter by calling-then-canceling a pre-deadline “all hands” meeting, and sending a few backpedaling emails.

75% didn’t kowtow to his 5pm ultimatum, so he’s left with 25%. Late Thursday he tweeted “The best people are staying”. Really?

So why are these remaining “best people”, “who actually write code” required to re-interview WITH HIM for their jobs?

The only reason for requiring a re-interview is he doesn’t respect those remaining because they didn’t stand up to him. This is the strange paradox in the mind of a bully. They push people around, but end up forming low opinions of the people who continue to accept their mistreatment. Ultimately, they end up justifying their mistreatment of others because they believe these other people deserve it. This is how a bully becomes a sociopath. This is really the only way to explain Musk’s behavior.

P.S. the pre-deadline “all hands” meeting was canceled early Thursday due to security concerns. The meeting could have turned into a riot, and a direct threat to Musk’s personal safety. This is also why all building access was suspended until 11/21.
