Hopefully won't be too bad here in Ohio. Looks like it's going to plow through West Virginia and Pennsylvania. Reporting that there will be 20ft waves in Cleveland and Chicago when all this mixes together near the lakes.

Here in the Pittsburgh area they told us to be prepared. Honestly I don't think we should get much here, but we shall see. We are supposed to get slammed with snow though.

How to survive the worst hurricane of our lifetime?

I am in NJ and don't know what to do. My job said I am required to work through the hurricane and must come in to the office. Where I currently work everything floods out. They won't let me work remotely from home during the storm.

I wish I was in San Fran this week.

I would be calling out sick

In all seriousness though, are you in the storm track on the coast of NJ or in the western more inland portions of the state? If the area is more inland you might actually be safe to go to work that is why they haven't closed down for Monday.

This TWC guy says this ones gonna be historic. Worth a read.

- History is being written as an extreme weather event continues to unfold, one which will occupy a place in the annals of weather history as one of the most extraordinary to have affected the United States.
- REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE OFFICIAL DESIGNATION IS NOW OR AT/AFTER LANDFALL -- HURRICANE (INCLUDING IF "ONLY" A CATEGORY ONE), TROPICAL STORM, POST-TROPICAL, EXTRATROPICAL, WHATEVER -- OR WHAT TYPE OF WARNINGS ARE ISSUED BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AND NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER -- PEOPLE IN THE PATH OF THIS STORM NEED TO HEED THE THREAT IT POSES WITH UTMOST URGENCY.

How Windy Is It In NYC Right Now?

Could you fly a kite?

Have you boarded up your windows?

Are people fighting over the last loaf of bread?

What's going on?

I'm from houston and enjoy hurricanes, but Sandy is a storm that I think is mad scrary. Much love to ya'll in the NE and stay safe

The State of Connecticut is shutting down all highways at 1:00 pm.

Here in Boston the MBTA is shutting down as of 2:00pm, all schools are closed and many businesses are closed.

Of course I work for a hospital so there is no weather day to take off, but I'm lucky that I can work from home which I'm taking advantage of :D

This storm was weak, but I welcome the beautiful weather from it.

Are you in Florida?

Because while it may have been weak when it passed through Florida, it has become a monster for the East Coast.

It's not like it's just a hurricane rolling through, it's smashing into a cold front from the West, 90mph sustained winds in an area that, well, doesn't ever experience it, and storm surges twice as large as hurricane Irene, which will cause flooding in the subway systems, for a population of 60 million, which 15 million or so use public transportation daily.

To top it off, It's going to slow down as it passes over the area when it merges with the cold front causing a possible snow storm or blizzard in West Virginia/Appalachia.

So it's a pretty big deal.

Looking at the trees outside my apartment building, it looks pretty damn windy...definitely your-umbrella-will-die-quickly level winds.

Apparently there were hour long lines to get into supermarkets last night.

I don't see any boarded up windows, but it sounds like someone is cutting plywood with a circular saw somewhere down the street.

My biggest concern in this whole thing is that the storm surge will flood the subway system, and my short commute will become a major pain in the ass.

I know were gonna get some rain here but, once I saw the first pictures of this storm yesterday. Some scary stuff.

Good luck to everyone that's affected. Stay Safe!

wishing everyone else well

My hopes are for everyone here and beyond to

be safe, dry and with power throughout Sandy's duration. No damage etc.

Mandatory evacuations south of us, but I have confidence my neighborhood will make it through just fine.

Yep- they've already issued flood warnings here for Tuesday and Wednesday.

I am in Howell ,NJ .

It is windy right now maybe 35-40 gusts to 50 .

The dec 1992 storm that hit us had sustained 65-70 with gusts to 97 in Cape May, NJ 70 miles south of

my home.

WE lost power for 29 hours. I would guess my area had 65 sustained with gusts to 85-90 that

year.

Right Now we are not anywhere near those wind speeds.

My town is in one of the worst spots for this storm, but max winds are not

due until 7 or 8 pm. I will tell you if this storm is windier then the 1992 storm.

I am far enough from the sea and rivers to not worry a lot about flooding. Frankly I am

concerned about the wind. As they forecast 80 to 100 for my area.

Oh my barometer has dropped from 30.2 to 28.8 in the last 24 hours.

Its high tide where I live and here's a couple of shots of the water going over the sea wall. Typically the water is about 100 yards from the seawall

Nice photos. Are they from your home tag of Boston?

Oh BTW wind has picked up hear in Howell, NJ and my Barometer dropped 1 tick in the last hour to 28.7. Still full storm is supposed to be 7 to 8 pm.

In 1992 the meter dropped under 28.5 which is as low as it reads.

Well, it's windy here in southeast Massachusetts... that's about it. I'm far enough inland where it's just going to be wind here but flooding looks like it will get pretty bad on the south coast of RI/MA/CT. We're almost to low tide right now, so we'll be hitting high tide later just as the center of the storm is coming ashore.. that's not a good situation for people along the coast.
