The HyperJuice has about the same footprint as a credit card, although substantially thicker, measuring 85.3 x 60.8 x 28.9 mm and weighing 208 grams. Folding prongs for U.S. outlets are built into the charger, but Type G and Type C adapters are included for compatibility with outlets in other countries such as in Europe.

Bold.
Big fat thumbs up Macrumors. 👍 👍 👍 👍

As for these GaN Chargers, amazing how electronics get smaller and smaller.
I work with power electronics on a daily bases, just a decade (Or 2) they were much bigger than now.
I installed a 350 KW Frequency drive a decade or 2 ago, it spanned 3 cabinets (about 4 meter), just a few years later it was replaced with a drive which fitted in one cabinet, now they are even smaller.

Not first. Maybe first that works...
Zolt was selling GaN based chargers three (more?) years ago. Also very small and high power. Very nice -- EXCEPT THAT they stopped working after about two years :-(

it's cool, but with everything moving towards wireless charging, it's not that exciting. of course it's great for those who would like to continues using as many cables as possible)

Finally, a charger that almost gets it right. The only problem for me? I'd like to to be able to buy a 2 meter cord that plugs into the charger just like the international adapters to deal with the use cases where the electrical outlets are not always conveniently located near where I want to set up my computing. This shouldn't be a hard thing to fix, especially if other manufacturers jump on standardizing this adapter interface that combines a compact folding AC interface with and adapter that so elegantly takes advantage of it in its folded state.

Any 2m extension cord would do the trick. Something like: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MKFZKCK/

Don't need to overcomplicate it with something proprietary......

I supported this on IndieGoGo a few weeks ago. Coincidentally enough mine is being delivered today.

I am still waiting for my HyperJuice to be delivered from their KickStarter !
I have been waiting months and their support seems to have vanished! I am very weary of this company at the moment.
I got mine about a month ago. I’d suggest contacting KickStarter if you aren’t getting anywhere with the company.

I’m using it and this is what I found from a web site

If only 1 USB-C device is connected, all 100W will be allocated to that port. The device will draw whatever power it requires up the maximum of 100W. If a second USB-C device is connected, the first USB-C device will get 65W and the second USB-C device will get 30W. 65W + 30W = 95W

Scenarios:

  • 1C Device: 100W
  • 2C Devices: 65W (first connected) + 30W (second connected)
  • 2C/1A Devices: 45W (first) + 30W (second) + 12W (USB-A)
  • 2C/2A Devices: 45W (first) + 30W (second) + 12W + 12W
  • 1A Device: 18W
  • 2A Devices: 12W + 12W
  • 1C/1A Devices: 80W + 12W
  • 1C/2A Devices: 65W + 12W + 12W

Is this GaN really a thing? Or is it just the charger equivalent of L'Oreal "Nano-Enzyme bead" nonsense?

If so, how come this company is the only one that seems to have it? Considering it mentions Gallium it probably refers to some kind of semiconductor (probably the main switching transistor, or perhaps the rectifier bridge) and this company seems way to small to manufacture semiconductors on their own. And if they buy them, they will be available to others too.

If this thing had 4x USB-C ports and could intelligently power up to 100W worth of devices across all four ports (in total) I would strongly consider it. But I've pretty much entirely switched over to USB-C at this point, and have USB Type A to USB-C adapters for the couple of legacy devices I own. Don't want to mess w/ Type A any more, period, if I can help it!

If so, how come this company is the only one that seems to have it? GaN is really a thing, and has been in use by charger manufacturers incl. Anker and AUkey among others for probably the last year or so. You not hearing about it until now is simply a matter of... you not hearing about it until now. GaN chargers are all over Amazon, etc. I own a few, and they're great.

the quality of this product is bad. I got my shipment but its not worth the money. They don't stay on the wall. Take up both the plugs all the time and always sparks when I insert them in the wall plugs. Opened up a return let's see

AVOID this company!! I am a super disappointed backer and have got nothing to comment further! So fed up!!!

This item is a piece of ****. Don't waste your money. It has soured me on items from kickstarter.

It works fine when only my Macbook Pro 16" is plugged in. If anything else is plugged in, including a dinky Apple watch, things get all muddled. It'll charge and stop charging or just charge at a very slow rate. It completely defeats the purpose of having multiple ports because I end up unplugging all my items from it so my laptop can charge. Sometimes just leaving the USB-C - Lightning cable plugged with no iPad or iPhone connected will throw off laptop charging.

Read the comments on kickstarter. I believe the charger has an inherent design flaw rather than just a defect although one guy had his USB-C port burn out on his Macbook Pro.

Customer service took 5 days to tell me to unplug and plug it back in. They would offer to take it back but I'd have to mail it to China and wait another 6 months for another one? What a joke.

Looks great for charging multiple devices at once. The fellow above who said his laptop needed 135W (by itself!) -- dude, (I'm sorry) you got a Dell!

I knew about this during the KS but since I didn't need it, I opted for an Insignia (BB-owned) 90W USB-C charger for $50 (sale price). It came with an eight foot(!!) USB-C cable and is a GaN charger, so I have no complaints (okay, it only has one USB-C port, so I guess I have one complaint, but really it's fine).

I have this piece of junk. If you plug or unplug anything into the power adapter it removes power to all the power ports to recalibrate the power. So if you have a usb-c hub attached with removable drives attached they get dismounted when something is plugged in or unplugged. Also I use the Gb Ethernet port on my hub and if I plug or unplug anything it drops the Ethernet connection/VPN connection because the hub loses power

If you're looking for something small get Anker's 100w GaN based charger.

Really wish someone would make a 3-prong GaN Charger. Personally I find the electric buzz of the MacBook Pro when using ungrounded two pin chargers really in desirable.

DO NOT BUY THIS CHARGER. That is, if you use a USB-C --> Lightning cable. Which presumably many here will use.

What happens is: If you have that cable plugged in, the other port will only get 30 W! No matter if you actually have a device plugged into the Lightning port or not. The Lightning cable is terminated making the charger think that there is a device connected to it even when there isn't. The only way around this is to keep unplugging the Lightning cable, but I bought this charger specifically so that I don't have to keep plugging and unplugging things. This is a terrible charger. By the way the same problem happens with a USB-C --> Apple Watch charger cable. It reduces the other port to 30 W...which even if you have an iPhone plugged in shouldn't happen, it draws like 20 W max, so the other port should get AT LEAST 60 W. And an Apple Watch draws even less, maybe 5 W max, but the other port is still reduced to 30 W.

If you only use USB-C --> USB-C and USB-A --> USB-C (for QuickCharge 3.0) cables you will be fine, but use any Apple specific cables and this charger becomes worthless.

Let's take a look at the promo image:
AirPod case and iPhone connected to USB-A
iPad Pro and MacBook Pro 15/16" connected USB-C

from the spec page: 2C/2A Devices: 45W (first) + 30W (second) + 12W + 12W

this means: 1) you have to very deliberatly connect the MBP first, otherwise it will only get 30 W, not 45 W
2) the iPhone will not fast charge, it will only charge at 12 W
3) 15" MBP at 45 W is basically useless if you actually want to use it. It will use battery during that time instead of charging. If you keep it off you can charge it but slowly.

very true, it's completely useless if you want to keep cables plugged in. you would have to constantly unplug your lightning cables before plugging in the USB-C cable for MBP charging.
