So can someone answer some questions for me regard CarPlay and installing it in a 2016 Hyundai.

Does this replace the current software installed completely or is it a bolt on?

How does it function?

What benefits/funtions does it have that the current system doesn't?

Thanks!

It's just an addon, everything else remains the same. Carplay is basically just an icon in your menu, if you're phone is connected and you hit the icon (or have it set to automatically turn on carplay) then carplay takes over your screen, but you can switch back to the Hyundai system very easily.

Notice how your screenshot DOESN'T have an available car listed? You're acting like you can use it, which you can't, neither can ANYONE ELSE. Stop misleading people and do your own research to find that, let me be clear here, NO CAR MAKERS HAVE WIRELESS CARPLAY AVAILABLE YET. Look it up. Apple has made the feature available in iOS, but no maker has it integrated yet, Hyundai claims Apple hasn't really made the API for it fully available, either.
My car doesn't show up because I have he plug in hybrid so I don't even have the update. It clearly works for some models, why else would Apple include something that doesn't work on any cars? Seems counterintuitive. I don't need someone on a forum telling me incorrect things.

How do you set it to automatically turn on Carplay?

You don't, I didn't mean to be unclear. You will always have a carplay icon on your screen, if the phone is connected the icon will be lit and you can just press it and go right into carplay.

Anyone else expounding glitches with CarPlay in the 15' sonata? Sometimes the music playback is very fast (sped up). Sometimes nothing plays when I choose a song. It's very strange and glitchy.

On a couple of the occasions, I've had to unplug and replug in the phone into get sound to come out. But I've never had music play too fast.

The update is out this morning for the Hyundai cars that were waiting for the Late July/Early August update!

Hyundai is releasing a software update that brings CarPlay support to eight new vehicles, including the 2016 Elantra GT, 2015 and 2016 non-hybrid Sonata, 2017 Santa Fe Sport, 2017 Santa Fe, 2015 and 2016 Genesis Sedan, and the 2016 Tucson.

The vehicles gaining CarPlay support through a software update join Hyundai's previously announced CarPlay models, the 2016 Sonata, 2017 Elantra, and the 2017 IONIQ. Hyundai has not officially announced the news, but dealers were sent a notice about the update on May 19. Dealer information suggests the update is supposed to be available as of today, May 24.

Hyundai owners with an eligible vehicle can download the CarPlay update through the Hyundai website and are encouraged to go through the installation process themselves. A Mac or PC with an SD card slot or an external SD card reader is required to download the software and transfer the update to the vehicle's in-dash system. Software download times range from 25 minutes for Display Audio to more than three hours for Navigation if a map update is required.

CarPlay took several years to roll out to new vehicles, but there are now dozens of 2016 and 2017 vehicles available with CarPlay support. Apple maintains a list of vehicles that come equipped with CarPlay on its website, which sees updates every few weeks.

Update 5/25: Several MacRumors readers have confirmed that the CarPlay software update is now available for eligible vehicles.

(Thanks, Brad!)

[doublepost=1471560604][/doublepost]I just got a new 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and upgraded the car to install the CarPlay. It's working fine. However, previous to the upgrade the in-dash display (not the touchscreen display) had one (of several) menu options which showed what was playing on the iPhone (or connected iPod, etc.). After the upgrade, that space shows an icon that says "APPS" with an icon showing a folder, but I don't see any way to interact with that. Any ideas? Hyundai doesn't seem to have a clue.

I have the plug in and I'll try to check it out. I usually don't use that function on the dashboard display.

Got a 2017 Santa Fe Limited Ultimate w/tech package 2 weeks ago. I loaded CarPlay a day after I got it and love how simple and clean it is. Just makes sense.

I will say it took me over a week to figure out how to adjust the navigation volume. I could not figure it out for the life of me. A couple of days ago I figured it out. You have to adjust the volume in the car, as the navigation is speaking. It will not adjust if it's not actively speaking. This is what got me. I tried it a couple times before but I guess it was after it spoke which made no adjustment.

Other than that, love it. Always wanted this car as the features you get for the money are excellent. IIHS Top Pick + for 2016 as well.
