    Link: http://modmyi.com/forums/iphone-news/719737-iphone-4-activation-without-original-sim-card-6.html

I hate to rant but I just wasted $9.99 for this video of Sherif Hashim. On this link he clearly stated that you can buy this phone book sim card to activate iPhones at any Radio shack or best buy retailers.

First, I called radio shack and explained to them about the phone book card. They dont know what I was talking about. Then I went to Bestbuy and got me one of those O2 prepaid sims except mine was called H20 (similar and same concept) for $9.99 I followed his video instructions and repeatedly did it quite a few times without any success. I was very disappointed.

Then I did some research and it turns out, it will only work with the "DITS" phonebook card that you can only buy international. It's only $9.99 but with S&H will cost you about $39 to ship it here in US.

I wish MMi would quit uploading new post until the new jailbreak is release cause it's giving alot of us false hope to see post like this.

Wow, yes those particular sims are hard to find I guess.
He should give us a link on the brand and type of sim so people dont go out buying expensive sims that wont work.
Also any old inactive AT&T sim will activate US iphones and also prepaid AT&T sims. So that might be a cheaper way of officially activating iphone 3G, 3GS and iphone 4's.

It's not Sherif_hashim's fault that you couldn't understand his simple instructions. He didn't say a prepaid SIM would work, but that specially-made "phonebook" sims designed for copying phonebook entries even from locked phones. The fact that you can't find one here in the US doesn't change the fact that it works.

I did not say "It does not worK"! Infact, I ended up buying the DITS card for $40. All Im saying is that he did say you can find similar phonebook cards at Radio shack or Best buy which is not true! And yes, his method works.

@Applejuice. If you are not the main carrier of the iPhone like my situation, then the only way you can activate it is by what he just did on the video.

Why didn't you just do like AppleJuiced suggested and got an old ATT sim card? Wouldn't that have been a cheaper/faster route?

    I understand bro.
But you can buy an old inactive sim for AT&T or Vodafone, Rogers or whatever carrier the iphone is locked to in order to be able to officially activate it at any time.
Look at ebay, they're probably a few dollars and will get the job done. As long as you know what carrier its locked to though.

You do know that Sherif_hashim doesn't live in the us and has no way of knowing what stores carry what here. Probably just presumes it was easy to get. $29 for shipping is what the peson is charging no way it cost that.

Sherif_hashim lives in India. Perhaps RadioShack and Bestbuy carry different products in India? The fact is that you claim to have been suckered into spending $10, and that's just not true.

Ok.. So I ended up picking up a brand new un-activated att sim card. I went to the att activation website and activated this as a pre-paid sim card. I went ahead and cut the sim card to micro sim and popped it into my iPhone 4. And this is what it tells me: So how can I get pass this? Tell me please!?! (With sarcasm)

Im not sure why its asking you for all that.
Usually you just pop in any AT&T sim and while plugged into itunes it activates the phone afew seconds later no questions asked.
Im not sure if it has anything to do with the type of simcard or if its because its prepaid and locked to another gophone.
    Not sure what to guess.
I can send you an old inactive att sim I have if you want to give it a try.
    Maybe try restoring the iphone?

@Applejuice- No need to send me your sims as I have 5 of them here.

See this the problem... This is one of Apples new security feature so no one else can activate the new iPhones except the person that bought that phone and so now we are suckered into getting a 2 year plan just to be able to activate and use it. No way Jose...
Im happy with my Tmobile plan

Is it the initial first activation that requires that or each time you restore/update and activate?
Cause I didnt see that and didnt ask me when I first plugged in my i4.

Yes this is the first time this phone is being activated. I bought this iPhone 4 from a pilot guy brand new never opened. He bought 3 iphones, instead of 2 (him and his wife).

that doesn't look like the screen that a pre paid card would give you.

Im sooooooooo glad someone is actually taking notice of my problem....

@Arisian- Because the original owner is the one registered to this phone. So this is the message I'm getting from iTunes for my first initial activation process.. The only way you can bypass this is to go to ATT store and sign a plan with them or follow the video I posted on top of this thread.

find another iPhone 4 user and have them activate it for you. I remember reading somewhere that it does not have to be the original purchaser.

Thanks everyone.. I will find a victim that would be suckered into doing it. Unfortunately, none of my friends have the new iPhone 4 except for my friends wife which I would hate to ask... I'm going to wat for the DITS phonecard that I bought online.

Att wont lock you into a contract unless they subsidize a phone for you. If you want service you can just go in with a phone and tell them what plan you want. Even when you do have a contract, you can cancel it within 30-days and all you pay is for services you used, so if you canceled the same day you may pay for one day's worth of service.

Honestly, I think you might just be in the same boat a lot of us are - which is the waiting boat.

Will be paying attention to this thread to see if anything comes of it.

I'd also mention it would suck for hte original owner of the phone to get slammed w/ two data plans (anyone know if this is possible?!) just from us giving you bad, or in this case, good advice.

    Good luck.

    Jeez.

You need a working, activated AT&T sim or old-activated sim.

An unactivated sim won't do it. Duh!
