Yep, I know this has nothing to do with his issue activating it but I wonder if the SHSH's I saved for 2 iphone 4's are pretty much a waste of time or there's some step that the OP is missing.

As more releases are made, there is certainly that possibility.

The only thing that will fix it is a good ol' internet fight.

Ok the restoring process works. I had the error the first time due a server timed out. I tried it again and it restored it and I got the 1015 error. I kicked out of recovery and it fully restored it back to 4.0.

Now Im back to my problem which is the activating part. Sheeez!

Well at least now I know that saving your SHSH file is important especially if you want to restore to same FW or from previous ones.

Where is that damn DTS phonecard! Its driving me insane.

Cool so it did let you restore.
But at the end of the restore it gave you error 1015 but it was fully restored.
You just had to kick it out of recovery and it was back to normal?
Thanks for the info.
I didnt try it myself yet so good to hear some hands on from someone else.

Yes I confirmed! Once the restoring process is done, it will give you the "1015" error on iTunes. Go back to umbrella and kick it out of recovery and it will finish the rest of the restore.

Just wait until get my activation card and I'll be as happy as both of you! Just watch! lol

Huuuuuuuuuuuy..... (Sigh)

Just put up a post on your local craigslist.
I need to borrow an iphone 4 microsim for a few minutes to activate my phone.
Offer to meet them at starbucks and buy them a cofee or something:)

IMHO, Just wait man - no reason to get killed on craigslist or accidentally end up on a date over this.

Or simply buy a micro sim on eBay, activate it as a GoPhone sim as I already pointed out earlier. Really, it works and will only cost you what it costs to buy the sim.

I think he already tried that with a bunch of AT&T sims and it was asking him for the sims billing zip code and last 4 digits of the social associated with the account.
Seems like only for the 1st initial activation and after that it will let him activate with gophone sims or any other even inactive AT&T simcard.

I wonder why this phones activation is so different.

I have tried that. I was getting soooo good at cutting att sim cards. None of them works until I found out that with the new iPhone 4 and with its first initial activation, you can only enter the original owners info (zip code + last 4 digits of ss).

I even tried the restore to see if it works and I still end up going back to enter the owners info.

The only solution I believe is using the DITS phonecard that I bought from Europe. This will bypass the activation process.

Or I could try what Applejuiced have said which is meeting some random person that owns another iPhone 4 and ask to borrow their microsim.

If you lived close I'd hook you up.
Are you in the New England area by any chance?

Haha funny guys! Oregon is such a nice place. Very green and lots of camping trails.

no ones making fun of it - just that you told us exactly where it was... we already know :D

Just for the record, I live in China... its just north of India, Bhutan, and Nepal... just south of Russia and Mongolia.

Wow, I had no idea that it was this different. I hope you get it fixed soon.
