Can't really blame app devs when it is a OS problem. If Apple had let devs use auto layout from the beginning, there wouldn't be this problem of fragmentation with screen sizes.

I'm with you guys. Most of mine are updated, but PS Vue and Amazon Prime Video apps are lagging! And being that these are video apps it's really frustrating. Hopefully updates come soon.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the FaceID update is an iOS thing. It simply replaced TouchID with FaceID in the OS itself. Therefore all of the apps work for it. This is definitely the right way to do it, for OS to intercept authentication first. Or else we'd all be punching in passwords for all of the apps that need authentication until the developers decide to get around to it. I noticed this on day one, everything started moving to FaceID. When you look at specific app's settings, it still says "TouchID". None of my banks are updated yet either. But the lack of optimization updates hasn't bothered me. Just feels like my old phone, which isn't that bad of a thing.

Right and wrong. Yes Face ID is an iOS thing. But the reference quote about chase was they actually updated their app to have it say Face ID in setting instead of Touch ID. It already worked with Face ID because of iOS they just updated the name

Face ID is more convenient, but find it slightly slower than Touch ID.

A lot of wasted space, which makes the screen seem a tad long.

Love my x except for the “keyboard gap”, app UI, and the home swipe bar. Hoping for future software updates, but only time will tell. Still an amazing device!

Sounds dumb but Ill ask anyway, have you tried deleting the app and reinstalling it? I wasnt able to login to my bank app when I got the X. I called customer service as it stated and they just told me delete and reinstall and I was able to login. Worth a shot.

Haha! This actually worked. Funny thing, this one.

They still to update it for proper screen format though.

what's the keyboard gap?

I like mine except for no landscape FaceID unlock and perpetually neglected engineering mode on the phone application

Just the wasted space under the keyboard I would have liked to see it being utilized in some way. It's not a huge deal to me or I would have returned/not purchased the X but I would have liked to see something there.

The first generation touch ID was slower as well, but as you can see through the improvements and iterations of the later iPhone models, it will greatly improve. And so will Face ID as well. This technology is fascinating, but it's still in its infancy.

Here's the most frustrating part, in order to use the app, it has to actually recognize the iPhone you're using. Since the current app is not yet optimized for the X, it gives an error saying phone not supported. It worked fine on my 7+ though.
Instead I have to use the mobile site.

I’m sure updating for just some fancy UI changes for a specific model is least of the priorities for a bank. Especially where the usability of the app has not been impacted at all.

But as you can see above from another users comment, the usability of the app has been impacted. At least my bank (Halifax bank) has acknowledged they are working on it when they send an bug fixes update few days ago. If my banks app stooped working on my Phone because some lazy ass developers think they have higher priorities then at least maintaining app compatibility for new devices, I would just move to a different bank in a heartbeat.

Totally agree, no doubt about that.

An app stopping to work is higher priority but if it just looks not optimised then that’s never a higher priority.

The only thing driving me nuts are so many apps still not optimized for this phone. I love the phone and think its great, except for this issue. I cannot stand the pillar boxes on the top and bottom of soooooo many of these apps.

And yes, I understand and respect the fact it might take devs time to update their apps properly. But the phone has been out for almost a month, not counting the time prior to release when the specs were readily available.
Doesn't bother me in the slightest. Google Music hasn't been updated yet, hardly notice. Just looks like I'm using it on a regular phone. It doesn't hinder your productivity and the apps functionality at all so rather than whine here, why not write nicely to the developers?

Google apps? It's not that Google can't, or even that it's hard... 😉
It's called prioritisation. iPhone X is a tiny install base compared to the rest of iOS devices, and Google quite rightly focuses on their own hardware and apps first. They will get around to it, and when they do, the functionality and your usage of the apps will largely remain unchanged. Welcome to the first world, where meaningless thing become massive problems for people.

I was thinking something like "cut-throat competition" rather than "prioritization," but that'll do. 🙂

Haha! Ultimately, Google updating their apps for iOS doesn't make them any money. They are a business so why would they do something that nets a loss and takes resource away from other areas that do make money? I know that in the grand scheme of things we are talking about massive companies here so it really makes no odds to them, but, business is business as they say!

The pillar boxes will just be filled in with extra wasted space in almost all apps that need to be updated. Instead of looking at black boxes you'll be looking at a background that matches the app you're in.

Funny how Chase updated instantly for FaceID but not screen optimization yet.

My bank also updated for FaceID, however, did not update for screen optimization! Maybe Apple is pushing companies to update for FaceID first, before screen optimization if they have to choose?
