I am sticking too

What the heck the darn thing is paid for, and both ATT and :apple: have already gotten enought of my hard earned cash. Besides there is no 3G service in Alaska... and there is no service at my home anyway... Wifi works great tho.

I got rid of my 1st gen because of the atrocious speakers. I could not hear my phone if I was in another room and I couldn't speak on it on a bus or if I was walking by the road.

I originally got rid of my old 2G iPhones, yes I had three 16GB 1st generations. I sold all three on eBay back in the day for about $450 or so. I bought a 3G after I sold the last 1st generation and owned three of those as well, 2 16GB and 1 8GB. I sold the two 16GB and bought the 8GB in December. I then upgraded to a 3GS in June. A week later I went and bought a used 8GB 1st generation because I missed it :D.

Now I use all three. I have the 3G activated with a real iPhone data plan and I have a GoPhone sim that I switch between the 3G and the 1st generation depending on my moods which as you can see, changes as quicky as the hour does.

No 2G owners why stop next year? why not wait for the year after that im sure apple will have a phone the year after that and the year after that. so you better wait cause 5 years from now the iphone will be crazy . so yeah just keep thoes 2g phones cause you never know what apple will bring in a few years..

that logic is SOOO stupid ..i have owned every iphone and i have ENJOYED every iphone ...when a new one comes out you can SELL it for alot of money depending on how well you took care of it.. then use that money to get a new one.. i am NEVER waiting cause "i will wait till next year" ..i will enjoy all my new features and the fast and great experiance of the new iphone untill next year . i will sell it and get the new one ..

judgmental, much?

I am sticking with my 2.5g iPhone, thank you very much, and I don't give a toss what you think of my logic. The 3GS still has a problem with cracks in the case, an issue that Apple chose to ignore, so I choose to ignore this upgrade.

I am quite happy with my 1st generation; it works for my needs. I have played with my realtor's 3GS and it is fast, and the video recorder is okay, but not enough to sway me. I have AppleCare, therefore any issues with my phone is covered under warranty, so my phone should easily last at least another year.

I have said that my singular requirement for the purchase of new iPhone model is a better case. End of story.

After crushing my 1st generation, I went back to Blackberry.. This was my 6th BB at the time. Then I swapped to Verizon and got the Storm after fighting with my Voyager for 5 months. Finally, after realizing that I hated it, I got a 1st generation again, and I have no plans on swapping until it just dies and I can't buy another one that is in good condition..

I just hate the plastic backing.. I love the white.. it is extremely appealing, but that plastic.. ugh. I feel like it is as cheap as the Palm Pre.. I love the metal backing on the 1st gen. I love the heavy feel, and honestly, I never use copy and paste, or a Video Recorder.. Even with my phones in the past that have actually had both features, I might have recorded 10 times in the past 6 years.

Am I alone here? Who else decided not to swap to the 3g or the 3gs, and who thinks that Steve should re-think the plastic backing?

Just an opinion, but I am curious as to who else feels the same..
Dump the first gen whether you like the case or not. The 3G is SOOOOO much better!

I love the iPhone first gen. I threw mine at a wall, nothing happened to it. Someone threw their 3G against a wall and it didn't have the same fate. I prefer the non-plastic backing, gives it a more professional look, and to be honest, I don't get 3G service in my area. I don't even use MMS, email FTW!

Compass? might be useful, but I certainly wouldn't depend on it... GPS... hmm ok, but my car has an inbuilt navigation system! So.. voice control... I'm not that lazy and sad that I want to talk to my phone....

When I listen to music via iPhone, I use either headphone or, the dock... which was free with the iPhone

Do I need better hardware on the iPhone? I don't always play games, and so for me, the current spec is sufficient.

Why am I upgrading to 3GS? To keep in line with my development cycle. If the next generation iPhone boasts something that I am dying for, then maybe I will disrupt my cycle, but I doubt it.

My iPhone is an iPhone. Nothing more, nothing less.

Why in the world would you need multiple iPhones? Seems like a gigantic waste of money to me.

Back to the topic, I still have a first gen iPhone, although I do plan to upgrade within the next couple of months. The Edge speeds and the speed of the phone in general are fine for what I need it to do and I really don't want to pay the extra monthly cost for 3G. But I'm going to go for the upgrade because I just don't have enough storage space (4GB) anymore.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO STILL ENJOY YOUR 1st generations, I'm assuming you have never toyd around with a 3g or 3gs for a long period of time. If you have, you would never be able to deal with the 1st generation.in comparison, it's just waaaaaay to slow.

LIAF... I don't get 3G in my area, I only get GPRS.

You cant MMS with the 1st Gen iPhone

There's a hack. My iPhone's got Apple's official MMS programme all working.

I did actually. Went into O2 with my boyfriend when he was buying an iPhone. He was on contract with someone else so we were trying to work out whether it was worth the extra hassle of the 3G unlock, we decided not since he would mainly be using it on wifi anyway.

As for the 3GS, I went and played with it when it came out, I didn't see any significant speed increase in anything but the maps app. Since I'm not seeing a difference, it's obviously not worth it for me.

Main reasons I'm sticking with the 2G:

It's paid for.
It's easily unlocked.
It's built to last.

Hopefully by the time the battery's stuffed on mine iPhones won't be a complete rip off anymore, if they still are then I'll just replace the battery.
