I am testing the AT&T Unlimited Data Loophole.

i read that too. but if he didn't read all those other threads you can keep your unlimited data when moving to the iphone 5 if on at&t. What loophole is he talking about then???

An old trick with activating an iphone 2G, getting the unlimited 2G data and then converting it to the unlimited 3G data.
Hasnt worked for about a year though.
I used that loophole for 2 lines on my account and they're still grandfathered in.

ditto.

I got mine last june.

Hate to bring you the bad news but itunes doesnt activate the 2G the same way by making you pick the unlimited 2G plan any longer.
It just activates it like any other iphone without touching the phone plan.

What if you remove your data plan altogether? Will it tell you to pick one then?

No, it will do nothing.
It will just activate the phone just like any other iphone model when plugged in to itunes with an AT&T sim inside.
In other words it doesnt work any more.

After reading through this thread and many others, there really needs to be 2 things before people should be allowed to make posts.

1. Age requirement.
2. Reading comprehension tests.

Interesting, I thought AT&T was forcing folks to have a dataplan on iphones (smartphones in general). So this is the loophole to only using voice with no data on an iPhone...

I give up:D

You can say that again:D

I understand the point, the activation doesn't force a data plan change on the device. So you can't get unlimited data anymore. But by not forcing a plan change you could in fact remove your data plan from the line, activate the iPhone and have an iPhone with no data plan (thus using WiFi only). That used to be something folks wanted because they didn't see the purpose behind the 30$ data plan AT&T used to force.

If you have an iPhone on your account, but no data plan, one of three things happen, you get hit with pay per use for data, you get a data plan added to the device automatically (with no choice on which plan is added), or you just have no access to the APN.

Yes, untill AT&T's system detects an iphone without a valid data plan and adds it automaticly and sends you a text.
Old news and nothing to do with this thread.

The loophole that used to change your 2GB or 5GB plan back to unlimited by signing up for an account in iTunes but stating that you are replacing your current iPhone with the 2G. It worked for several years.

Nobody can get it now if they dont already have it on their account.
The OP was trying to use an old loophole that doesnt work any longer.

Yea looks like it's not going to work. Oh well, I'll return the cheap eBay 2G iPhone  Stupid AT&T. I complained and got them to credit my family's account $225.

I'm on my companies unlimited Verizon LTE plan anyways now :D

I was curious if it would work with an older version of itunes and a line that doesn't have a iphone/dataplan yet. Guess not?

Apparently AT&T stopped offering the 2G Unlimited data plan altogether.

I don't think it's iTunes but AT&T. Unless someone else can confirm.

Unlimited data does continue with upgrades, for now at least.

I used 7gb last month and received the throttle message, at 6gb I was still getting 16mb/s on speedtest.net.

My plan went from iPhone unlimited to LTE unlimited when I upgraded. SO it does continue with upgrades

Grandfathered on AT&T, when I preordered the 5 they allowed me to retain the unlimited plan on 4G for $30 a month, $20 cheaper than the 5GB w/ tethering (or, $10 more than 3GB).

Did you buy the new iPhone for full unsubsidized price or contract price?

----------

Me too. I've had the exact same unlimited data plan since the iPhone 1.0. I've transferred it five times now.

How did you "transfer" it? Did you buy the iPhone 5 at full price?

Hi,

Can you confirm that it's based on iTunes and not based on AT&T's end? Have you tried this in recent weeks? Because I thought it was based on the plans that AT&T will activate, not iTunes?

Please advise!

Why don't you try and let us know? :D. If I had a 2G I would try, but then again that's why I'm following this thread.

Alright people, I'll get a SIM tonight and try it out. I already have the 2G, and was going to return it, and likely still will, but want to try this out and put the rumors to sleep!.

----------

I'm going after work to get a blank new SIM, and going to force activation through iTunes 9. I also know of an "authorized reseller" who may be able to help me along the way, so I will have more information tomorrow.

My contracts up, so I can cancel the older line and try then for my brother, without being hit with a cost.
