IBecause that's basically the difference isn't it : the OS. The input method (keyboards and mouse) can be easily implemented IF the OS permitted it.
I use my iPad with and external bluetooth keyboard, everything is working fine and if you're just browsing the web and writing a bunch of text documents, it's really great.

But I need my Macbook for sure, cause I can't work on my iPad ;-)

I purchased an iPad and now I barely use my MacBook air. I still like it and everything, but I've found that most of the time it just sits at home collecting dust.

Not gonna sell it or anything because at some point I do occasionally do use it for remote desktop or other things that are impossible in the iPad, but for general, daily use my iPad has taken over.

Anybody else with a similar experience?

Nope.

I game. and Diablo 3 COMING OUT MAN!! GETT THE F READY!

I've gone through 3 different BT keyboards. None were very comfortable to type on for long periods. And definitely none worked well in my lap.

The only one I found worthwhile was a desktop keyboard but that only works well at my desk.

The BT keyboard I kept was the Logitech Zagg thing. Best of the bunch I tried but still not good enough to replace my laptop for work over 5-10 minutes.

I use mine for two different things.

I tend to use the iPad for content consumption - reading book , reading web sites, reading and sending mail, games, etc.

I use my MBP for content creation - creating word files, spreadsheets, web pages, large documents, photo editing, etc.

If you don't have a need for a lot of content creation, or you can get away with the applications available on the iPad, like Pages and Numbers, then the iPad could be your main computer.

If you do any "heavy lifting" though, I find that I need the laptop for that...

I have this one too, very nice to work with. But I agree, it's a bit too small for long use, my MBA's one is a lot better.
The other possibility would be an Apple bluetooth keyboard, it's a bit bigger so less pratical to carry around, but it's a desktop keyboard, so you can type just like you would do with your laptop.

I'm returning my iPad and waiting for the new Macbook. I feel like a cripple on the iPad.

Same thing happened with iPad 2 and I didn't learn my lesson. I bought one, 6 months later it barely saw the light of day... sold it to a friend.

Bought the new iPad, loved the screen... not I feel like I can't do anything on it besides looking at Pulse and the Interwebs. It's just a handicapped device.

To each his own, but my iPad sits collecting dust and I don't even have a Macbook yet. My Kindle/iPhone 4S get all the action right now.

What exactly are you trying to do on your iPad? Lots of people I know just don't download the right apps to do whatever it is they need to do and then they blame the iPad for the limitations. It'd be like getting a brand new Macbook Air and complaining that it doesn't run spreadsheets because you haven't yet installed Office.

Yea I know... I've looked at all the apps... read all the 'iPad Only' blogs. I dont feel like trying to change how I do everything in order to be iPad only, when I can get a MBA and have everything I want.

The ability to post a pic in a forum, easily for instance, without having to use 4 different apps in iOS blah blah blah.

It's just not easy.

Plus I have been on the fence about getting into xCode... been playing around on the iMac, but want to be mobile so... that's a dealbreaker.

Gosh, the top 10% of First World Problems are so hard.

Why don't you donate it to someone who actually needs it?

Who would you define as someone who needs an iPad (A very expensive, trendy, unnecessary piece of technology, where you could get a $200 netbook/laptop if you need internet capabilities)? Get off your liberal hand out methodology and get over yourself.

I meant the laptop, genius. That's what he doesn't use.

And someone who needs one... someone going into film school who can't afford a new Mac?

My liberal handout methodology? Really?

Sigh. Your logic is flawed, your reasoning is poor, and your English, if anything, is worse.. your condescension is not only misplaced but a bit sad; You really do seem to miss the entire point what I said.. not to mention the plight of people with less.

And for the record, I'm not one of those people. I've just got, you know, a conscience. (A brain, also.)

Go take your republican "methodology" and get over YOURself.

Define..."need".

[/thread drift]

Well, need's a bit of an ambiguous term. Lets go with "could really use it," or "needs it in the context of... X" where X is, for example, a friend of mine who got accepted into a top school, and basically needs a laptop to edit video on but really can't afford one.

Wirelessly posted

Tend to use the iPad only for surfing and for watching movies. The MacBook Air is still my main machine.

I have both an iPad and MBA which I find them highly useful in their own unique way.

I use the iPad for medical applications which are very useful in my everyday practice and for reading books (novels, medical references).

As for the MBA, I use it mainly as desktop in my cabin when I'm in the cruise ship (I'm a cruise ship physician).
