Exactly! It should be. Just because you don't agree with the content doesn't mean it isn't relevant. You seem to be basing the quality of a post on how similar it is to your views.

I didn't say if the content was relevant, I said the quality of the content. If he says Siri sucks without having used it, that's blatantly low quality content.

As I already said you seem to believe that a post is of quality only if it is congruent with your opinions. I never said Siri sucks yet i'm sure you have down voted my post. I could down vote yours but there's no point...

If it's being marketed and I can buy it, then it is no longer in beta. Tada.

TADA HURRR DERRRR

edit: Also, perhaps you should look up the definition of marketing.

I just want voice to text that works same as Google voice recognition if not better. Voice commands are Androids strenght, when you are in car.

Now iPhone with those great headphones with built in mic will be the ultimate phone dailer, without breaking the law.

About the AI stuff, I couldn't care less at this point, though conversions could come in handy...

Then how come the existing voice control feature in the iPhone works so badly?

Ask it to play a song and it dials an international number. Ask it to phone the wife and it tells you the time.

i dont know about you but i have the chinky-est (yes, racial) accent on the planet and i'm calling my dad, playing songs by amy winehouse, etc without a sweat.

ps: you can change the accent (uk, us, australian) for the voice control, maybe that will help (under settings > general > international > voice control)

Same again. Resume? Crap. Versions? Worse. Mission Control? Disaster.

"resume" and "versions" is crap? how's having a constant backup of every edit of your document a bad thing? you're a funny one mate. btw, the exact post you're replying to, the poster specifically said he/she's talking about iOS and you start raging on Lion -_-

Unless it works particularly well with road noise where I would use voice recognition most of the time, it is worthless to me.

It will if you speak into the mic so that it can differentiate your voice from the road noise picked up in the noise cancelling mic. If you are speaking from too far away, it will pick up your voice in the noise cancelling mic as well.

I'm wondering how well it will work in a car kit.

Also, wtf is with people on this forum down voting any comment that doesn't praise the hell out of apple?
Wow, if some freaking number next to your post makes you mad like that, I can only imagine what happens to you when you're called, say, a pu$$y.

For all you guys talking down to Siri (pun intended), you do realize that it is the result of the DARPA CALO project don't you? Apple purchased a large chunk of the result after it was made available in the civilian world. If you had Siri just a few years ago on your cell phone, your house would have been soon surrounded by black SUVs with a couple of very wicked looking helicopters overhead.

If that isn't enough, Steve Jobs said he wanted to have a little box you'd carry around that would learn about you and assist you over 25 years ago! (Time magazine 1984 interview).

Didn't stop him from releasing voice control....

I mean I can't tell you how many times I have said "Play such and such" and it starts to call someone and I go wtf stop!.

Voice Control wasn't a main selling point. When Apple released the 3GS, it was about the speed, the video...those were the big things. Voice Control was just there, not a big deal.

If Apple releases a phone and the biggest upgrade is the voice control features, like the 4S, they HAVE to have it working perfectly or there would be extreme backlash. I know it's going to work flawlessly.

Luckily you are the only person on Earth, so this representative sample proves me completely wrong.

I'm quite aware of that.

Because it's impossible to actually delete anything without killing the entire OS, which has profound legal implications for anyone who does any significant corporate work? Because it's workflow for saving documents is ****? Because it's almost certainly the source of Lion's significant memory problems? Because it corrupts files if saved on network drives?

you're a funny one mate. btw, the exact post you're replying to, the poster specifically said he/she's talking about iOS and you start raging on Lion -_-

The post I quoted doesn't mention iOS at all. It says Apple. Did Apple not produce Lion?

The point is wider. Every company in the world sometimes produces **** and tried to argue that it's great when it launches. Apple is not the only company in the world to do this. But it unquestionably does do this sometimes.

apple's stance has always been for the mass consumer rather than specific industries (notwithstanding the audio and visual industry). just because it's not good for your case, doesn't mean it doesn't for others. i dare say that countless more people would benefit more from versions in relative to not having it.

user "boshii" replied specifically saying he/she was talking about features in iOs. you quoted that sentence and talked about Lion. maybe siri can show you some pointers in following a conversation flow. jk. yes, you may rage back at me. i just had to say it:p

the problem is.. something that does not work well for your case, works amazing for others. case in point, you brought up about "versions". it does nuts for your usage case but the feature was introduced for lots of people who hit the "save" button accidently for a change that they didn't want. it helps all those people out hence the feature is great for them.

no company can have a 100% track record in products of course but the things you're decrying about is hardly the blue screen of death and most of all,it's about features that works for others, just not you. doesn't make it ****

It's funny that all the people that want the 4S just for Siri could have used the app for a MUCH CHEAPER PRICE than getting a new phone, but instead 'consumer-driven' apple decided to remove Siri from the App market so if you want to continue using it, YOU HAVE TO BUY THEIR NEWEST PHONE WITH LITTLE OTHER IMPROVEMENTS. big woop an A5 processor. I've had a dualcore NVidia cpu in my g tablet since 2009.

And the thing I'm thinking about which no one is really commenting on yet.. Is the fact that, for this Siri technology to work well, it takes the processing load off the phone, instead putting it on remote servers. So instead of your phone doing the work, Apple is putting the load on the data networks that will have to carry high (or at least decent)-quality voice streams for every voice command you want to execute. Basically, instead of hitting the 2-4 buttons on average you would need to touch to access something, you are slowing down your data networks even more with this nonsense. No amount of CPU gain is going to speed this up as its OUTSIDE YOUR PHONE. The big networks like AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, are NOT raising their networks capacity for this change. The 4S / Siri probably won't get popular enough to make that huge of a difference (IDK, a lot of apple users have to keep up with the Joneses, as Apple is more appearance than anything), but if it did, you sure would notice. I know that 1 million were pre-ordered in a week before its release already.. Have fun with an even slower iphone experience. With Jobs gone, expect more and more bad releases like this. Without releasing a new innovating product every 3-6 months, there's no way to keep up with their advertising and r&d, and eventually their market will implode. Nothing lasts forever, especially in the tech industry.
