I’ve been saying for years that a boring life ain't so bad, this whole process just confirms that.
You have definitely been through a lot lately....hopefully once this guy is out things will return to normalcy. And your back will get better.

How's the other roommate handling this?

I know you want to get things done and then later on do a complete reno, but I wonder if it wouldn't be better to start doing major reno now so that you can charge more for rent and bring in better clients?

Update:

I’ve tried reaching John through various channels and I can’t get a hold of him.

If I had to guess, his absence isn’t anything to do with the tenant situation, it’s probably to do with his declining health he has remarked on throughout his posts and videos. And I assume that he can’t produce his videos, given that’s the likely reason.

All the best to him.

Search for "In Memory of John Russell" on Facebook and there's a page about him.

From a post for those who don't get on FB:
"On January 10th we lost John Russell. He was an old friend and the father of my child. We will miss him dearly. Though he was a wanderer in spirit, he touched many lives on his journeys. He always found the best people where he went. His online presence was more robust than I think most people know and I wanted a group page that his friends all over can add to."

Cause of death is unknown from what I read. He had a daughter. This is just so sad.

This is very sad, indeed....

I looked around and found an obituary, which seems to fit:

I have also looked through the comments on the YT channel and found a message from one of his family members which verifies the news.

This was in response to my post there on FB:
Meladee Zeller: Thank you for sharing. I am John’s sister and trying to figure out all the different forums he was on and I didn’t know about this one. I was just reading a few comments and the obituary that was found is his. All of his friends and family truly love hearing stories or memories of him. I am not sure how post on this forum. Please if you don’t mind can you let everyone know that if they have a memory or story of him we would love to hear it. If they can’t post on here they can post it on the tribute wall link on his obituary. Knowing how many people he touched warms my heart and hearing even just the places where the people who followed him are, makes it even better knowing all the different places he will be missed.

I will reach out to his family. What a great man, and talented in so many facets. I really got to know John and had some great ‘back door’ discussions through messaging/YouTube, especially through the legalities of his tenant situation.

For me, he will always be remembered for doing heavy construction work in sandals in any environment.:D

Damn. I’m gutted. ?

I truly enjoyed John’s DirtPickle videos, his freely sharing his wealth of information, but mostly I was drawn to John himself. He was an interesting mix of gentleness and strength, had a notable wandering/adventurous soul to his nature, and I detected perhaps a woundedness about him that was matched by tremendous resolve. John mentioned his mentor ‘The Captain’, watching his father, personal curiosity, and multiple other friends and previous employers as contributing to his fix-everythingness ability.

John also mentioned having an undiagnosed autoimmune disorder that he was pursuing with doctors in Cincinnati. He was having back pain, as well, and he was under a lot of stress from the tenant/eviction issues.

John was a guy I think everybody would like. He took it upon himself to drive to St. Louis on his own dime to help Kaleb/“The Second Empire Strikes Back” with some challenging restoration electrical work. You can watch Kaleb here talk about John’s death:

John Russell will be missed, by me and many others. He is survived by a daughter. He was a dude. MR lost a long time positive-contributing member. The world needs more like him. May he Rest In Peace. ???

Nice write up.

I was going about my Sunday, but it was in the back of my mind the whole day, even over somebody that I’ve never met in person, it had me thinking about him.

Today (7th) marks exactly one month ago from his last post on here. One thing I know he mentioned, was that he was scheduled to have an MRI on his brain, so possibly something neurological related, coupled with likely other issues.

I’ve met quite a few talented people in this life, but I’ve never met somebody that had extensive tech experience and somebody that literally has the ability to reconstruct an entire house with his knowledge (Most of which, he could do impromptu and mentally map without even using a schematic.) So he had a unique mind, that was able to go beyond most capabilities.

I think what’s unique about John, (especially when it comes to Internet anonymity), was that he was 100% transparent, and you could feel that through his videos and dialogue. Meaning, he was one that really never needed to hide who he was, convey his thoughts, show his face and was uniquely a humorous guy with his random F bombs he might drop once in a while.😁

I hope whoever takes ownership of John’s house, will appreciate the amount of time, effort and hard labor that he invested in, and somebody that will continue to bring that house to a point of revival based off his contributions.
