Out there man
Received. Couldn't care less about this phone. I have the 13 Pro max and the trade in was good for it ($1000 carrier trade in) but ... the 14 pro is going back. (to note, i did not trade in yet .. it was going to be mail in, so I still have my 13 pro max)

The camera bump is stupidly large.
The 13 pro, 12 pro, and honestly the 11 pro before it is still plenty fast.

I have bought year over year for years ... I just couldn't care less about the 14 Pro at this point.

Edit: I should point out this isn't bashing the phone, or Apple. At this point year over year upgrades is what it is, small advancements. This is just a sharing of thoughts on my end, nothing more (and as someone said below .. perhaps a little self discovery).

Anticipation is always greater than the actual event. The more you hype it up in your mind, the more "disappointed" you're going to be when you get it 😉 You should probably have given it more time before deciding to return it. The camera bumps have been "huge" for a while now, so that shouldn't have been a surprise. The tradeoff is amazing cameras.

It's definitely less exciting lately. The X was last one I was really pumped to get, and the 6 prior to that. However, like yourself I got a great deal and upgraded regardless. (Unlike yourself I'll most likely be keeping mine.) I will admit, based on the keynote I was hoping the camera would be one of those 'behind the scenes' significant updates. Reviews thus far make it seem like that's not the case, but we shall see.

I bought the 14 pro and fully expect it to be exactly what it is— a set of minor upgrades from my 13 pro. Minor, but positive nonetheless.

This is the standard fare if one upgrades annually as I have since the first iPhone! Form-factor change years are occasionally more exciting, tho depending on preferences those don’t always hit a home run.

I just don't get why this needed a new thread and couldn't go in one of the reaction ones tbh

Didn't see a reactions thread, sorry to make you read another thread.

I just thought about the fact I can probably wait another year, or two, and get a similar trade in deal and at that point it starts to be a bit more worth it.

I hope you enjoy the new phone though!

I'm not sure why, after all the videos and everything else out there on the phone, how you couldn't make the decision to keep your 13 Pro before buying the 14 Pro. Did you think it was going to have some magical feature that hadn't already been discussed in the hundreds of videos about the phone?

Since we have known for years how these updates are, I think this is more of a self-discovery rather than anything to do with the iPhone. And there is nothing wrong with that.
I am thinking that is exactly what it is as well.

I am not saying it is a bad phone at all, it isn't. I'd love to keep it just for the camera, but I have more internally saying "no dummy, just send it back".

I guess I am getting old ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Loved the idea of the emergency sat messaging and find my location stuff. I backpack routinely and carry a separate device with me. Just expectation and reality ended up not being at the same level.

Ok that feature is still present on the 14 Pro. The reality of maybe you don't need that feature most likely set in.

The 14 line up is lackluster honestly, but I am sure someone here are gonna come out and defend apple like "sat communications WOW IM GONNA USE ALL THE TIME THANK U APPLE"

smh.

There is ZERO reason to upgrade to the 14 from the 13. Crash detection? lol.

The sat comm stuff is useful when you do need it, though. As stated I already have a separate device for that when I backpack, but I would love to replace it with a device I will already carry with me.

Again this wasn't a bash on the phone, just a "I upgrade every single year and have never been meh on an upgrade" which just says more about me at this point.

This is the first year I’ve skipped out on upgrading as well. I went by the Apple Store to look at the 14 pro and I just don’t see much difference from my 13 pro. Promotion was the big feature last year that made it worth upgrading for me, and the fact that my 12 mini had to be charged by 2:00 or it would die by the time I got off work. If they would have made the 14 pro the same weight as the 14 I would have had a good reason to upgrade as that’s my only complaint with the 13 pro since I use my phone 1 handed.

Seems like an exercise in expectation management would've done some good here. I'm not entirely sure why folks are expecting a vastly different experience coming from a 13PM.

I think a lot of us still have lingering effects when every iPhone release was very cool. I mean, people would line up just to get it on launch day! It had a good run but tech-wise it was never sustainable, you don’t need to upgrade every year. You can if you want, it just won’t be special like it used to be.

No doubt! I didn't really expect a huge difference honestly, it was just the feeling of "eh, I don't need this" that I haven't really had before after a phone upgrade. Works for me though!

really? This is the biggest update since the x. I find it a big upgrade over the 13 pro. Satellite connectivity, no notch turned into something useful, much improved camera, always on display, etc. When was the last time the iPhone has such improvements? The 12 pro and 13 pro are very similar, not much difference. The 14 pro and 13 pro, not so much. Apple usually does a big update than a small one. The 15 is looking to be a small one for the pro models. Big one for the reg model. The 13 pro was one of the lightest upgrades in recent memory. If you are happy with it, good. But these threads on how the 14 pro is a minor upgrade seems to me are just people trying to convince themselves they don’t need to upgrade. No one cares, no need to tell the world about it.

You are not the only one. Look at the activities on this iPhone board. This is probably the least active I've seen for any iPhone launch day. I think you are in the majority that people just stop caring. Kind of sad to say, feeling like Apple is losing its mojo. Thousands of engineers and all we got are satellite, crash detecting and dynamic island in one year? Other improvements are already long exist in Samsung from the part manufactures, not exactly sure there the innovation is this year. Seems like a byproduct of WFH policy, no wonder Apple is trying hard to get people back to office.

Man, I remember when Apple would just release an iPhone every three or four years. Boy, was that an event! We'd all huddle around our radios by the fireside, and listen to Steve Jobs' voice crackling over the wireless, and--

Oh. But certainly I remember those halcyon days when Apple would release an iPhone every three MONTHS, because there was so much to put into the new phones that they just couldn't churn out the upgrades fast enough! We would get into the surrey and ride into town to get on li--

What? Well what was I thinking of, then? Are you SURE?

OK...then...I remember when... *glances off stage* ...when they would release an iPhone ONCE a year... *glances off stage, silence* ...and the first day it was available we would order it online... *glances off stage, silence* ...and it would arrive the very next da--

I probably wouldn’t upgrade from a 13 Pro, but I’m coming from a 12 Pro, so 2 years worth of small upgrades are worth it to me. I think an upgrade every 2 years makes sense, but to each their own.
I have a 13 Pro and love it, but between the $400 discount my carrier is offering and the amount i could sell my phone for privately, it would be no money out of pocket to buy the 14 Pro. I don't need it by any means, but it's sort of a "why not" situation to get a new slightly upgraded phone with a new warranty and new battery for "free".

I've said it many times, but it's always better to upgrade every few years instead of every year. What with up to 90% of correct rumours throughout the year, you basically know what to expect these days.

But at least you tried it and found out what's right for you.

I guess that's the rub, is it really "worth" it even at this point?

My pro still has whatever the balance is on the 0% APR loan via the Apple Card, my carrier offers to bring my trade to $1000, but I am just not sure that even "now" is the best time to trade in. Wouldn't it technically be better later down the line when the device is paid off and the carrier is still offering a higher trade like this?

Granted .. that's assuming trades will be worth $1000 next year, but even with private sale currently it's theoretically possible to get around $800 out of it.

I am just not sure if the swapping is worth it at this point in the game.
