The only reason I upgraded from my 13 pro was for size; I needed a larger screen. Didn’t make sense to get a 13pm and sell my 13p on the secondary market with the 14s right around the corner. I prefer to get a new phone every 2-4 years. My husband goes 4-5+ years between each.

I’ve updated every year since the first iPhone. For me it’s a fun tradition and I budget for it. Some are underwhelming some are nice but I enjoy it. Like Christmas when your a kid. Some great some ok but all are exciting.

Good point! Again not dumping on anyone that bought it. My wife traded in her 12 pro and likes the changes this time around.

Just not my time this year, which is a first for me.

Honestly, I got it because I needed more storage and I had the Apple Upgrade Program. If not, I might have stayed with the 13 Pro. That and I usually always get the new iPhone.

Received. Couldn't care less about this phone. I have the 13 Pro max and the trade in was good for it ($1000 carrier trade in) but ... the 14 pro is going back. (to note, i did not trade in yet .. it was going to be mail in, so I still have my 13 pro max)

The camera bump is stupidly large.
The 13 pro, 12 pro, and honestly the 11 pro before it is still plenty fast.

I have bought year over year for years ... I just couldn't care less about the 14 Pro at this point.

Edit: I should point out this isn't bashing the phone, or Apple. At this point year over year upgrades is what it is, small advancements. This is just a sharing of thoughts on my end, nothing more (and as someone said below .. perhaps a little self discovery).
Yes. The camera footprint is ridiculously large and stupid. Looks terrible.

What do you expect, going from a 13 Pro to a 14 Pro? The 13 Pro doesn't become ancient immediately after the 14 Pro's launch. It's still a great device, and nowadays iPhones stay great for years. I went from 6s Plus to 13 Pro Max and that was genuinely a huge leap, but it was also 6 years of incremental upgrades at once...

An iPhone 14 pro with the camera size footprint of the 12 pro would be perfect. The camera is a a deal breaker. Awful.

I have upgraded year over year. I know what to expect. This year was just less than usual.

There is no doubt that Apple is the king of hype when it comes to making minor improvements seem like major upgrades, not only in their phones but in all their products. They are also beyond compare when it comes to burying information on features that are clearly no better or in some cases worse than the previous model. Let the buyer beware.

The form factor is almost the same, this is basically an "s" generation consistent with what we've seen in prior ones. Dynamic Island is a similar gimmick to 3D Touch on the iPhone 6s, and we likewise see Apple selling hardware using software. Just like 3D Touch it won't last more than a few years as eventually the notch / island will be eliminated entirely.

I have an IPhone 12PM I came from 11PM prior. I'm so tempted to trade my 12 to 14 as I skipped the 13 for thr same reason I'm skipping the 14 this year, I'm really hoping for an external redesign and USB-C. All the upgrades on 14PM right now vs my 12PM is not revolutionary (imo) so I'm skipping, iphone is a very good device, iOS ecosystem even better, but the external design doesn't excite me anymore, I'm sure they'd come out with a new redesign eventually, also I can't just simply upgrade my phone to take advantage of my increased trade in value because verizon wants me to pay for the phone 36 mos and then move out of my retention plan $35/mo per line unlimited data for 3 lines to $55/mo per line. So that just totally convinced me to skip again this year.. just my 0.02..

I will upgrade when Apple gets their camera size appropriate. There's no reason why without today's technology they had to impose a larger rear camera. 48 pixels is unnecessary and a ****** excuse. I want a phone, not a douchey looking camera.

I’ll be going from an 8-plus to 14-pro… even just using the phone without the home button will keep me busy for awhile!

I got a long wait for delivery

I don’t know, I see a huge difference in the camera for how I use it. I’ve been disappointed in my 13 Pro’s strange low light performance and the fact that literally every photo was starting to look like a bizarre AI oil painting. The 14 Pro fixed all of those problems for me and I finally have the same quality of photos (for me) that I had with the 12 Mini haha. But with better battery life. This will probably be my phone for a looooong time.

Agreed: I see no need to upgrade from my iP11. I think it’s gonna take a while until the next upgrade….

No doubt! I didn't really expect a huge difference honestly, it was just the feeling of "eh, I don't need this" that I haven't really had before after a phone upgrade. Works for me though!

I think it speaks to how good a phone the 13 Pro was. The 13 Pro still felt new to me a year after I got it.

But it’s not. I sold my 13 pro max a day before the keynote and I’m picking up a new 14 max tomorrow. Today I did go to the apple store to look at all the colors and check out the new display. The look of the new pill form with the animations felt so normal to be on the new iPhones. Like it was meant to be there, natural. Looking at the dead space notch in comparison felt old. So yeah, I’m looking forward to my new iPhone tomorrow

Get with the new normal

It's not the new normal though. It's just on this year's pro models, which is a tiny subset of the phones people will be carrying.

If you think the improvements on the 14 Pro are worth a year on year upgrade from the 13 Pro, that's fine (I've also upgraded from the 13PM to the 14PM), but I wouldn't exactly be going around telling people to get a phone with the dynamic island or be square.

The 13PM is a fantastic phone.

It’s definitely not. I tried demo iPhone in store yesterday, and I don’t see the “improved details” people keep touting about, even at in-store environment, which has plenty of light either way. Zoom in, and the detail even for objects one meter away from me is just as bad as iPhone 12 Pro Max.

I watched iJustines action mode test and I literally did not see a difference of the videos side by side compared to previous years model 😅

I was not expecting a huge leap in tech but Apple was giving my $720 trade so I updated my 13PM to the 14 PM. All is good, it is a nice phone.
