Bought a new silver 14 Pro today to replace my 13 Pro.

Got it home, opened it up, looked it over, everything looked good, and then I saw it and couldn't possibly believe it and now it can't be unseen...the entire freaking camera bump square is crooked counterclockwise by 1-2 degrees. I looked at it in all lights, gave all consideration and analysis to the possibilities of shadows or even somehow the entire back glass panel being crooked in the stainless frame (which it is not, it fits perfectly within the stainless steel frame all around), and nope - the entire camera bump square is actually molded into the entire back glass panel slightly crooked. I don't even understand how this is possible given the tight tolerances of the cameras that still manage to protrude through the holes which are now slightly not where they should be, but here we are.

Look closely - above the camera bump, the distance between the bump and the top edge of the back glass is noticeably larger towards the left side compared to the right side. And correspondingly, if you look to the left of the camera bump, the distance between the bump and the leftmost edge of the back glass is noticeably larger towards the bottom compared to the top. The camera bump is literally crooked, like it's been rotated counterclockwise 1-2 degrees.

Confirmed 13 Pro is absolutely not like this, this crookedness is now all I see on an otherwise flawless 14 Pro.

Anyone else? Look closely. I assure you, it is absolutely not the light or shadows playing tricks - if it were, I could reverse the optical illusion by turning the phone differently in the light. No matter how you look at it, in all conditions, it's crooked in the same way:

It more so just seems like the curve of the camera platter doesn't follow the curve of the phone, or something else is off here. If it were actually crooked, the left side would also be crooked, yet it doesn't appear to be. Frankly, the whole photo seems off. The platter seems to taper to the right, yet it appears closer to the top of the phone?

The left side is off by the same amount as the top (bottom part of left side is wider than top part of left side), but it is a bit hard to see in that pic. Also the top and bottom of the camera bump are at least parallel in person, so at least the bump is square...but it indeed appears to be rotated slightly counterclockwise...this is super bizarre, never seen anything like it nor can I understand how the glass mold could be so far off.

Never seen that before - because while mistakes happen Apple does have the factories run multiple quality control checks along the way.

Do as you wish - if mine was like that I would keep it (But I don't sell stuff ever).

Understandable if you return it but makes me sad that it will be destroyed. That kind of error is so rare to get out considering they sell what like 75 million a year and never seen that before.

Good eye though!

Thanks for posting...

Yes, does look like a production issue, but I don’t agree that it would be difficult to get the camera’s still properly aligned/working with this “defect”.

I would return it as I wouldn’t be 100% sure if could cause any issues later (e.g. not fitting a case properly)

I (still) have a 2010 MBP with misaligned speaker grill holes, I never returned it as I didn’t see any reason this could cause technical issues later, but I’m not sure about this bump alignment…

It’s sort of like choosing a dog. If you as a person are slightly off, like slightly off centre, then keep it as long as it functions properly. It’s a conversation piece.

Wasn’t there some excitement over some phone that made it out of the factory with the Apple logo off centre - and Apple went crazy to get it back?

I say keep it!

Reminds me of this. The OCD ones asked for a replacement because the stamp was faulty.

That's cool, rare, collectable and probably valuable if there were only a few misprints. Even these days there's a difference between a rare misprint of something and a phone which in a year's time is just going to look to have been sketchily repaired.

Probably should have stuck with the 13, which will be the last of the good iPhones… Apple’s QA in all it’s products have gone to crap in every product line, but worse, they’ve lost the creative and innovative mojo that Apple has been admired for… they decided to let the Wall Street parasite types infiltrate and take over the company again… it almost killed Apple back when it first happened, but they had a savior then… this time there is no savior… they can be the richest (valuation and cash) company in the world and still turn it into a failed company… Wall Street parasites have a way of doing that tech companies… just look at what they did to Adobe…

I see it, and now I’m definitely not looking closely at the back of my phone!

In all seriousness, though, I’d ask for a swap now if you’re worried about it. I don’t think it’s severe enough to affect the cameras’ performance, but i may be being overly optimistic there.

A company willing to thrive must have the ability to see through money. Cause a company that last long, is not built purely on profitability. Reputation, quality, uniqueness, dominance, intellectual property, those build the foundation of a company. Once the foundation is there, money will follow.

Apple took advantage of 1980s technology boom, and outlast many other competitors such as Commodore, Atari and such. If the capital entry of building an ecosystem was not billions, someone else would’ve already challenged Apple. The tech world would’ve looked very different than it is today. Nevertheless, Apple can still last for a very long time. However, who knows what will happen in the next 10 years, and who will be the challenger.
