Glad I went directly through Apple to get the new iPhone. I have exchanged 2 iphone 4's to date because of the yellow spot issues.

I was told by a Genius when swapping my 2nd for the current phone I am using that there is a good chance I will still have the issue if I use the phone heavily, but to wait as long as possible with it because it should go away. I am on day 5 with it and if I am running a few apps and switching between social sites to post on, I notice on a white background a yellowing on the sides.

I really don't want to make another trip (hour each way) to the store. How long should I wait this out. A week, 2 weeks? the day before my new 30 day return window?
Like I said, the faint tinging only appears when it's heavily used and then when I switch to a SMS or settings grey background.

After 14 days, you better believe that the problem will go away.... LOL

Isnt that the return window, not 30 days?

DON'T trust what these geniuses say. They are working hard to proctect Apple.

If you returned a NEW iphone, why were you given a refurbished/used one?

This makes no sense.

You paid for a new phone. New phone doesnt work/defective. You should be given another new replacement, not a USED refurbished model.

He returned a used phone not a new phone. A new phone would not have been used. he used the phone. How else did he decide to return it?

You return a used phone and apple replaces it with a refurbished working phone.

They don't take your used phone and give you a brand new one, unless they have no refurbished ones to give out.

After thinking about this I think I see what the issue is here.

the item was purchased at bestbuy, OP gave them the money for it.

then he gets a replacement from Apple and has a phone with a different serial than the one Best Buy sold him.

Now he wants a Refund and walk away.

The reason Best Buy wont return it is becasue it is a different phone. People try to scam all the time by buying a new product and then trying to return the old product in the new box for a refund. so checking serials is normal.

Apple cant return it either because they did not sell it. How can they refund money to you when you never gave THEM the money to begin with. Apple is a corporation but the retail store operate under their own umbrella meaning they have their own overhead and revenue to manage and worry about.

If they gave him the money back they would technically be out that money.

now imagine this happening thousands of times over. their financials would be an utter mess.

Yeah I don't understand why people are blaming Apple and Best Buy for this.

The OP screwed up by not returning the phone to Best Buy. Apple was being HELPFUL to him by swapping it out for him, but they did not have to do that. What they should have done, if they had known the OP was going to do all this is refuse to exchange it and make him go back to Best Buy to return it.

Which is what the OP should have done in the first place.

If he had returned the phone for a swap out at Best Buy in the first place he would be able to get a refund now.

So he has nobody to blame but himself.

Why don't I buy an iPhone and then steal someone else's iPhone and return it to Apple for a full refund. Free iPhone for me woohoo, and I don't have any stolen property to worry about.

I have bought mine from bestbuy on 28 June. It had green cloud issue. So i went to apple genius bar so they can check it out. They couldn't figure out and gave me refurbish IP4. I took that phone home and found out it also had this green cloud in the middle of screen. I went back to app store and wanted to return with full refund until they came out with upgrade. Guy told me that i cant return my phone even though i am still under 14 day. According to him, this phone is refurbish and cannot be return. So i went best buy and they told me this phone has a different serial number and they can't refund it either

Any advise?
Thanks

I would be furious. First of all, you schould have never swapped it out for a refurb. Refurbs are nothing but problems waiting to act up at the most inopportune times. You should have been given a new one since it is still early in the game.

If I were you, I would go and demand my old phone back from Apple and then return it to best buy for a full refund... good luck

but it is a result of having an initial faulty product. Surely they have a method for dealing with this

Apple knows what phone you have and how you came about getting it(provided you got it from them) I replaced my 3G 5 times under warranty and then AppleCare. I called AppleCare the first time I got a replacement and they already knew the new serial number and they told me that it took a few days but the new serial number will catch up with you.

Isn't the iPhone window 30 days not 14? That's why people are saying they hope the white phone comes out after the 30 day mark for people trying to swap?

Can anyone confirm if the window is 14 or 30?

EDIT: found it. they extended it to 30 days. http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/blog/5802/

Fail.

1. There are no refurbished iphones yet.

2. Name another product you can return after having service done to it.

:D

1). I work for manufacturer that made lot of communication equipments. Say we built 1,000 units of XXX. Tested and 120 units failed, we built 120 more units to fill the order up. Shipped 1,000 units to customer. Sent 120 failed units to technician, once 120 units has been repaired we then send them back to stock.

Those 120 units are "Refurbished" we can't not sell them as new. :p

2). Sure, there are many product I can return after service(s) had been done to it. My 2003 4 Runner have some problem with steering rack, it kept leaking. After 2,400 miles on it and 2 oil changes and few services they still couldn't fix the leak. They have to take the truck back :D

Go to Apple manager and explain the situation. Calm and assertive, request of him to participate in a conference call to the BB manager and explain to him that you did indeed return serial #xxxxx for serial #xxxxx.
If you still do not get this resolved make sure to get on the phone at the Apple store and get an upper manager on the phone and hopefully resolve it.
If still no success, go to small claims court. Be armed with dates, times, people you spoke with and ALL your paperwork. Be sure to name both BB and Apple in your claim. These companies will make contact with you and make all attempts of resolution. They do not have time to be going to court to defend such a trivial dollar amount. Then ask for your filing fee and your hourly wage that it took to resolve such a simple matter.
