^^^Yeah I agree with you.. I wonder how much time I am suppose to give it before I grow to hate it? I wish I had made the move earlier than I did to be honest.. The Surface Book flat out demolishes the MacBook Pro and it's not even close!
I think my Mac buying days are officially over unless Apple does a 180.. So far not a single issue to report on. By this time with my 2016 MacBook Pro I was already regretting my purchase.
MS has come a long way. They are now the old Apple and Apple is now the old MS...
Build quality on the SB is excellent and Win 10 has been rock solid!
I've purchased most of the comparable programs and apps I had on Mac in Windows and have not missed a beat yet..
Brief comparison from my point of view:
Screen:
2016 MacBook Pro = 10
Surface Book = 9
Keyboard:
2016 MacBook Pro = 9 (I liked it even though some don't)
Surface Book = 9
Trackpad:
2016 MacBook Pro = 9
Surface Book = 9
Sound:
2016 MacBook Pro = 9
Surface Book = 8
Operating System:
MacOS = 7 (had a ton of GPU glitches and spinning beach ball's)
Windows 10 = 9
Battery Life:
2016 MacBook Pro = 5-7 (I got 6 hours from the TB version when I had it and about 10 hours with the nTB)
Surface Book = 7 (I get about 10 hours in laptop mode and 4 hours in clipboard only mode)
Ports:
2016 MacBook Pro = 1 (USB C only and living that dongle life + no SD card)
Surface Book = 10 (all the ports you'd expect)
Other:
2016 MacBook Pro = 3 (it's thin and light)
Surface Book = 10 (2 in 1, removable clipboard, pen, touchscreen)
I have to say, giving the 2016 MBP a 9 in sound and the SB an 8 is REALLLLY reaching.
Sound - The SB speakers don't hold a candle to the MBP. My take on sound would be MBP 10 (Have yet to hear any better) SB 5.5
Ports - Thats a users choice. I personally adore the ports on the 15" with its 4 x 40Gbps transfer rates. Heck, even the 13" has 2 x 40gbs and 2 x 20Gbps.
Other - Thats all subjective. I personally would never own a laptop that has a screen that detaches. Furthermore, one that wobbles like nobody business when typing or accepting touch input.
A laptop with USB-C/Thunderbolt to me is a dead end machine. The possibilities are insane with it! Take eGPUS for example.
Heres my beef with the MBP 2016
Price - It is incredibly steep. Although, SB is once of it closest "Premium" competitors priced roughly the same. We all better hope Apple is not driving its list price off MS. Look at the MS Studio! We are in for a HUGE rude awakening if Apple takes the iMac to those price levels.
We do get the luxury of using macOS and Windows on the same machine. Thats something that some of us still value.
Upgrades - This stinks most of all because its more or less a done deal at purchase.
Or is it? Remember, Thunderbolt 3 and USB with crazy transfer speeds are capable of adding incredible legs to a system. The main thing you absolutely will never be able to get around is RAM. 16GB max in 2016, take it or leave it.
dGPU - I have the 460 and its more than fine for everything I do under macOS. Its when I really want to game under Windows, or push the system to do what its not technically designed to do. Thats when I start to see peoples subjective issues.
There is a solution for that. One that is much better than having a dedicated card sucking down juice, offering more performance at idle than needed during light tasks. I find the 460 to be a great compromise for my needs. I get a tight design, low heat and no throttling.
When I want to game under Windows, I connect my compact eGPU and push insane FPS. I even use the Adobe suite to knock out some Premier work. Cuda cores to the max and rescue!
All in all, its an interesting time for computing.
Apple did a great job waking MS up to the fact that its OS was not intuitive and or user friendly. Windows 10 excellent, but lets not forget they drug their feet, kicking and screaming, to get it to that point. Now the balls back in Apples court and hopefully they are not going to do what MS did now for many years.
