@SB-MBP if you're in NI, check out MacSys in Mallusk... give them a call and ask about replacement parts (they pick up a lot of the overspill from Victoria square and they've replaced parts for me (logic boards etc.); in turn also check out the book yard in Liverpool. My battery is starting to tire on a 2012 rMBP and they offered up a good looking deal on a replacement battery with improved life over the OEM part... I'd argue if you can repair you'll continue to benefit from a machine that has served you well... whether or not you'd get a comparable experience from an win machine and whether or not it would last as long as you 2012 mac could still, who knows!!!!

^^^Yeah I agree with you.. I wonder how much time I am suppose to give it before I grow to hate it? I wish I had made the move earlier than I did to be honest.. The Surface Book flat out demolishes the MacBook Pro and it's not even close!

I think my Mac buying days are officially over unless Apple does a 180.. So far not a single issue to report on. By this time with my 2016 MacBook Pro I was already regretting my purchase.

MS has come a long way. They are now the old Apple and Apple is now the old MS...

Build quality on the SB is excellent and Win 10 has been rock solid!

I've purchased most of the comparable programs and apps I had on Mac in Windows and have not missed a beat yet..

Brief comparison from my point of view:

Screen:
2016 MacBook Pro = 10
Surface Book = 9

Keyboard:
2016 MacBook Pro = 9 (I liked it even though some don't)
Surface Book = 9

Trackpad:
2016 MacBook Pro = 9
Surface Book = 9

Sound:
2016 MacBook Pro = 9
Surface Book = 8

Operating System:
MacOS = 7 (had a ton of GPU glitches and spinning beach ball's)
Windows 10 = 9

Battery Life:
2016 MacBook Pro = 5-7 (I got 6 hours from the TB version when I had it and about 10 hours with the nTB)
Surface Book = 7 (I get about 10 hours in laptop mode and 4 hours in clipboard only mode)

Ports:
2016 MacBook Pro = 1 (USB C only and living that dongle life + no SD card)
Surface Book = 10 (all the ports you'd expect)

Other:
2016 MacBook Pro = 3 (it's thin and light)
Surface Book = 10 (2 in 1, removable clipboard, pen, touchscreen)

I have to say, giving the 2016 MBP a 9 in sound and the SB an 8 is REALLLLY reaching.

Sound - The SB speakers don't hold a candle to the MBP. My take on sound would be MBP 10 (Have yet to hear any better) SB 5.5

Ports - Thats a users choice. I personally adore the ports on the 15" with its 4 x 40Gbps transfer rates. Heck, even the 13" has 2 x 40gbs and 2 x 20Gbps.

Other - Thats all subjective. I personally would never own a laptop that has a screen that detaches. Furthermore, one that wobbles like nobody business when typing or accepting touch input.

A laptop with USB-C/Thunderbolt to me is a dead end machine. The possibilities are insane with it! Take eGPUS for example.

Heres my beef with the MBP 2016

Price - It is incredibly steep. Although, SB is once of it closest "Premium" competitors priced roughly the same. We all better hope Apple is not driving its list price off MS. Look at the MS Studio! We are in for a HUGE rude awakening if Apple takes the iMac to those price levels.

We do get the luxury of using macOS and Windows on the same machine. Thats something that some of us still value.

Upgrades - This stinks most of all because its more or less a done deal at purchase.

Or is it? Remember, Thunderbolt 3 and USB with crazy transfer speeds are capable of adding incredible legs to a system. The main thing you absolutely will never be able to get around is RAM. 16GB max in 2016, take it or leave it.

dGPU - I have the 460 and its more than fine for everything I do under macOS. Its when I really want to game under Windows, or push the system to do what its not technically designed to do. Thats when I start to see peoples subjective issues.

There is a solution for that. One that is much better than having a dedicated card sucking down juice, offering more performance at idle than needed during light tasks. I find the 460 to be a great compromise for my needs. I get a tight design, low heat and no throttling.

When I want to game under Windows, I connect my compact eGPU and push insane FPS. I even use the Adobe suite to knock out some Premier work. Cuda cores to the max and rescue!

All in all, its an interesting time for computing.

Apple did a great job waking MS up to the fact that its OS was not intuitive and or user friendly. Windows 10 excellent, but lets not forget they drug their feet, kicking and screaming, to get it to that point. Now the balls back in Apples court and hopefully they are not going to do what MS did now for many years.

I have the Surface Pro 4 and really like it. OS X or macOS is certainly better but not much better and frankly Windows is getting better with each passing day.

I think we're moving toward a complete OS parity in the not so distant future. There will come a time when Windows and macOS are basically the same as far as function, stability and performance are concerned. It will be a Coke vs. Pepsi conversation. Apple has to be aware of this... If they are not, they are in for a nasty surprise. PC makers are already building compatible quality machines. The ecosystem is truly all that separates Mac from PC and that will soon go away. Then what will be Apple's strategy? How will they differentiate? Or will they just release a bunch of new shiny Apple Watch bands? Probably...

Side bar here. I'm trying to listen to iTunes right now. This piece of **** software is complete garbage on Windows. Absolute abomination and since I have Apple Music, I'm stuck. So, I yank out the headphones and decide to just plug into the iPhone and listen from there, but there is no headphone jack!!!... Just kidding :D. Still rocking 6S... But really - iTunes is absolute garbage. Why does it even exist... I don't know.

Hey look.....another Apple is doomed post

To be fair many in the forums use a variety of devices. They may prefer Apple mobile and tablet devices, yet prefer a Windows computer.
Some of us also use both, maybe Mac or Windows for work and either/or for personal use and vice versa.
Many more may have made the switch from one to the other, I could go on. But the point is, just because this is an Apple first forum doesn't mean there are no Windows users here. There's actually quite a lot.

To be even fairer there are people in the site who only seems to post propaganda in the politics forum, so the only requirement to be here is that people can somehow get text onto the boards. Your point is valid and agreed with :)

Hesitating to jump the ship or not.

I had the new MBPT for whole 2 weeks, worked perfectly. Until I discovered this:

:(

In a computer that costs 14 thousand zlotys here in Poland...

Question is what are my options now, either to wait for new improved MacBook / build new PC / buy Dell?

So it no longer works perfectly? If the rattle bothers you, you can try to get it exchanged under warranty, but I think Apple doesn't always consider a rattle a warranty issue.

As for buying a Dell, visit the Dell forums first.

Screw the Dell forums, that's like reading the Apple Care forums before buying a Mac. Ask me; I know the XPS 13 and 15 like the back of me hands.

Do they ever make unwanted sounds, like a rattle, whine, roar?

By the way, reading the Apple forums before buying is also a good idea.

Since I already own a perfectly good pair of maracas, it hadn't occured to me to shake my laptop around. Having now done it, the "rattle" / faint clonking is also present on mine.

That being said, the machine still works every bit as well as the day I got it and shaking it will probably never be a part of my daily routine, so I'm not going to lose sleep over it. Should problems arise, the good folks at the repair shop next door will surely do what they do best.

I phoned them, bloody useless. Instead of giving me a quote 'how much was Apple offering it for? Oh, that's about what we charge'.. "Can I buy the parts from you [Mac-Sys] and fit them myself even if I give up warranty on parts?" "No, we're not allowed to do that.". What is the guarantee on the work done? "Same as Apple".. so 90 days, not worth it. If Apple offered it for 12 months I'd accept it but 90 days is appalling.

I'm keeping the machine so far, but quite disappointed yet again as N.Is lack of useful businesses :-/ Miss the iConnect that was in Foyleside here in L/Derry. Think it did authorised repairs.

Pozdrawiam z Warszawy :)

I'm both happy/unhappy.. Mine has light display bleed.

Some people say coil whine is bad but I've never had an issue with 5 different units. Maybe I don't have sensitive ears
