You'd be just as well getting a new one - wait until January and see if an iPhone 32GB or iPhone Nano is released though ;)

Not got any insurance that could cover it?

Mines been cracked for a few weeks now. Totally my fault though. I've been lagging in filing the insurance claim mostly because it works fine and doesn't bother me too much.

Last thing you want to do is a fine piece of glass to splinter right into your finger..

its a 16GB black 3g : ( it was my baby

yeah my Birthday is Jan 9th ill be 21 and should be getting some money plus i will sell it .

No way would i get an iphone nano.... i need my jailbroken iphone with alot of space.

and to the guy that said where are you going to buy and iphone for 300$

i called apple and they said i could buy one from them for 300 brand new.

and i called the 800 number and an apple store

I got a brand new one when that happened to me.
The genius said something similar. But instead pulled out a brand new ipod touch box and handed me over the touch, and swaped em' out. Some geniuses are really cool
To the OP: You can get a good 200-300 bucks out of that on eBay, the unlocked phones generally sell a lot higher than they would if you were to just give it to apple. So your broken phone could possibly get you enough cash to pay for a replacement.
EDIT: This here is an 8GB used for four days and a cracked screen, currently has 18 bids and is at 265 dollars, so you probably can rack in enough for your replacement.

I dropped my first gen and webbed it- toyed with the idea of fixing it but it sounded a bit silly hard.

Ended up selling it (unlocked) on ebay for more than the cost of the new 3g model...

Worth a try!

Well that's by no means apple saying your screwed.

I recently did the same exact thing.
Get it repaired. The LCD still works. The front glass/digitizer can be replaced.
Apple will NOT repair broken glass. They will just try to sell you a new phone.

I used a company called MissionRepair. http://www.missionrepair.com
Glass replaced with 3 way overnight shipping and I paid about $160.
They did excellent work.

Man, before this thread I have mostly heard stories of how sturdy the iPhone is and of people dropping the iPhone numerous times with no damage done..

To the people who have cracked their glass: Did you have a good case on? Just wondering!

I have never dropped my iPhone, except for a few times when it fell from my lap on the couch to the carpet floor...and I have a hard rubber case on plus the Invisble Shield (so I don't consider that a hard fall). My brother has dropped his numerous times, but has no damage. He has a plastic case..

There seems to be "sweet spots" where nothing will happen, and "DAMAGE ZONES!" where sh*t goes terribly wrong.

I've dropped my phone before sans-case, and nothing happened.

I guess it also depends on the surface you dropped it on.

i think i ran into a problem.

wont i have to give my phone over to apple in order to buy a new one ?
