why are people acting all crazy? You can jail brake 3.1.3... just not unlock. Well you can unlock if you use broken firmware going from .1.2 --> .1.3

I did it it worked fine...

Not a 3GS you can't. The 3GS on 3.1.3 cannot be jailbroken at this time, it can only be upgraded from an earlier jailbreak.

I like the way you cut out the rest of the quote

Meaning you can be running 3.1.3 broken and unlocked if you want.

Ok I don't mean to veer people off this madness, but since we are on the Topic of SHSH files on the Cydia servers, I have a very simple, boring and sensible question to ask.

when I backed up my SHSHs on Cydia I was on the 3.1 (3.1.0) firmware and 5.11.07 baseband...and as far as I can remember soon after I clicked on (Make my Life Easier..etc.) on Cydia, Cydia gave me a message like this:

"This device has SHSHs on file for iPhone OS: 3.1"

that kinda made sense to me at the time...

fastforward the next day, I had successfully upgraded and jailbroken my phone to a 3.1.2 firmware, with the same 5.11.07 baseband.

Since I basically re-jailbroke my phone to get on 3.1.2, I thought I had to go to Cydia again and click on "Make my life easier..." button.

but when I loaded Cydia, that option wasn't there and now the ..."this device has SHSHs..." reads like this...
img7082copy.jpg

Call me crazy but shouldn't it say... "This device has SHSHs on file for iPhone OS: 3.1 or 3.1.2???"

I dare not upgrade my 3Gs to 3.1.3, but just in case I need to rely on Cydia's SHSH files in the future, would this be a problem?

Is this the message every person that jailbreaks and clicks on "Make my life easier" on their 3.1 or 3.1.2 3Gs gets?

After all it makes sense to say "FOR OS: 3.1.3" as in just in case you want to upgrade to 3.1.3 we have SHSH backup for it.

Am I just being stupid and paranoid and wasted two paragraphs on nothing?

He quoted the INCORRECT part.

Not if you have a 3Gs on stock 3.1.3 without your SHSH saved. What don't you understand?!?

I quoted the entire post as it was when I hit quote. That you edited it before I finished typing my reply (that's why there's no "Last edited..." note at the bottom of your post) does not change the fact that when I hit "Quote" that was all that was there. Nice try, though.

But quite apart from how I quoted you, even your edited post is incorrect: it is still not possible to jailbreak a 3GS already on 3.1.3.

No, you just misunderstand how the SHSH cache works. What version of your SHSH gets stored on Saurik's server depends not at all on what version of the firmware you have on your phone; it depends on what version of the firmware Apple will currently sign. Saurik can't request your SHSH for past firmwares Apple no longer will allow you to install; you've got to get them on file before Apple stops signing them. This means that if you clicked "Make My Life Easier" after February 3 you will have only 3.1.3 cached.

Yes, this could be a problem for you if you need to do a DFU restore, since you can only restore to a version that either Apple will sign or Saurik has stored on his server. As long as you can get into Recovery mode, though, you will be able to restore to a custom 3.1.2 firmware made with PwnageTool and preserve your jailbreak/unlock.

Note: You only have to click "Make My Life Easier" once. Saurik stores your ECID and automatically requests SHSHs for all subsequent firmwares.

Shouldn't we be able to tell if he gives us screenshot of the about section? As it should say 3.1.2 as well it should have the newer modem firmware.

It would say 3.1.2 if saurik was able to get the phones SHSHs before Apple stopped signing the 3.1.2 firmware (same goes for 3.1, etc)

I am not a Techie..

Can any one please tell me can i Jail Brake & Unlock my IPhone 3GS 3.1.3 with this process

Hmm see I knew somethin wasn't aright, thanks for all the good info Thelatinist, you're always one of the most helpful people around here, Not to kiss ass or anything... but I'm glad I listened to your advice from the start: if it wasn't for you, I would be holding a useless (a.k.a non-jailbroken)3.1.3 with 5.12.01 bb. right now, wondering what the eff did I do wrong. Glad you convinced me to not go further than 3.1.2

And as for the OP and his jokes! It's nice to be humorous but try to refrain from insulting people while you're trying to defend your points, weather they may be valid or not.

The people in this subforum have the patience of saints.

That is all.

pretty simple

if you dont have your SHSH backed up and you are on stock 3.1.3 you CANNOT JAILBREAK !!! new old or foreign bootrom :)

only way to do it was upgrade using custom firmware TO 3.1.3 from previous firmware, only way to do that is if you have the old bootrom on your 3GS

can we leave it at this

if anything changes it will be posted on the jailbreak matrix

Simple, but you forgot to specify that if you are a 3GS on stock 3.1.3 you CANNOT...

Be careful!

I know you've put a lot of work into it, but the purpose of this forum os not to advertise your website. General practice on this board is to recommend the official Dev Team website for news of releases, not our personal websites.

i go through 10 boards a day to update that site, and didnt mention the url but guess can't even mention the spreadsheet, i was refering to the thread i have going here with the pic of the matrix, not the url to the site....

and yes 3GS i forgot to mention that on my previous post, but i though that's what we were discussing here, hence the thread title

If you hadn't noticed by now, people will not leave it at this, no matter how many times you tell them.

We know that it works if you have your SHSH on file with Saurik's server.

I'm reeally confused.

I'm quite the novice when it comes to all this, but i thought that once a phone was updated to 3.1.3 in the new bootrom it was unbreakable? But i've read a few different stories tonight, like here, about how if the phone was broken before than you can do it again?

My phone is a 3gs, 3.1.3, new bootrom, f0recast gave me the same msg it gave the author of this thread, but it was jailbroken prior to the accidental upgrade. It's also completely blocked by the carrier as i stupidly bought it from someone dodgey. This wasn't a problem when my phone was 3.1.1.

With itunes back up just before the upgrade and it being jailbroken before does this mean i can jailbreak it again and finally use my phone again???

Thanks!

Your phone can be re-jailbroken if you can downgrade to 3.1.2. In order to downgrade to 3.1.2, you must have your 3.1.2 SHSH saved (either on Saurik's server by having clicked "Make My Life Easier" in Cydia before February 3, or locally by using software called the Firmware Umbrella -- also before February 3). If you did not do either of these two things, then it is not possible to downgrade your phone.

Ok I think I am in a Big Pickle here as far as restoring and re-jailbreaking my iphone goes...I think those options are a nil for me (as far as I know).

A week ago I upgraded my 3.1 Untethered (5.11.07) jailbroken 3Gs to 3.1.2 jailbroken (5.11.07) without a hitch using a custom 3.1.2.ipsw by simply putting my iPhone in RECOVERY MODE (USB and iTunes logo) and using the SHIFT>Restore option!

It worked just fine then, no need to use special tools ie: Pwnage tool, Redsn0w etc.

This was quite simple and headache free, and got me really excited about how it bypassed the Apple signature etc.

Fast forward today, now that I am on J.Broken 3.1.2 (5.11.07) I wanted to just do a simple restore (and re-jailbreak)of my phone.

I tried the exact same method that I explained in the above paragraph (Putting the phone in recovery mode, SHIFT>Restore and direct the iphone to the custom 3.1.2.ipsw) but NO CIGAR!!

iTunes sure enough contacted Apple, and Apple sure enough told me the usual...

Now I have no idea what to do at this point, has my options of restoring and re-jailbreaking my iPhone while still staying on 3.1.2 and 5.11.07 ran out? or I just have to use another method now? ie Redsn0w or Pwnage etc. (NOTE: I only have access to a PC at this point)

How do I make good use of the SHSH on Cydia? or do I even need to access the SHSH files ?

I am lost, any help would be appreciated, thanks

EDIT: Just for the record I haven't updated my iTunes to today's latest 9.1, it's still on 9.0.3 firmware
