I should have clarified that I didn't mean you were saying that.
I'm more reacting to the folks who are seeming to imply that "we are close" or "AVP2 will be the one"

Not if one is in the camp, as I am, that true minimalist glasses AR is the form factor

The tech simply doesn't exist to do it and it's not coming anytime soon.
I think most people are expecting the next one would just be somewhat lighter and / or less expensive, not a jump all the way to the glasses.

I'll be honest, I wouldn't be able to get over how stupid I would look wearing this thing on a plane amongst other people.

I thought so too, but then I saw a video of someone crossing the street with one on (hands flailing) and then they stopped a few feet from the curb to resize and move a “window”.

🤦‍♂️

Makes airplane guy look normal.

Question to people who did the in-store demos: did you get a chance to try the dual-strap, or is the solo strap the only thing they have for you to try?

I wonder how long it will take to hide the batteries….. let alone the thinking of the goggles.

Luckily I don't care what other people think about what I'm wearing/using.

While it's OK to somewhat isolate on a plane with noise cancelling headphones, it seems rude, inappropriate, and unwise to completely isolate both noise and vision. I can just see the flight attendants rolling their eyes now, "Sorry would you mind tapping the space man next to you to get his attention, it's time to land."

Sorry, but I find that laughable. I'm not going to wear it during the safety presentation. I'm pretty sure I could notice if the plane was landing or if an emergency happened. Also, is it rude if I go to sleep with a sleep mask and earplugs on also?

flight attendants are far too professional to roll their eyes at AVPs. And have you seen the neck braces, sleep masks, and other things people wear on flights? Sorry, the older you get the less concerned with looking cool and just getting on with living your best life you get. Anyone who thought I was rude for quietly minding my own business and wearing my APV while seated? Not at all concerned about their opinions. And there are already threads here of people wearing them on planes and the overall comment is no one cares. Not the flight attendants. Not fellow passengers.

Uh, its less about "looking cool" and more about having a sense of awareness. Does it sound courteous or even safe to completely isolate like that on an airplane? Not to me.

Yes actually, it is. When you become a burden or irritant to the people next to you or to the crew, that's literally the definition of rude. You might not care, which is pretty clear from your tone, but that doesn't make it any less rude. The best part about rudeness though...it isn't up to you to determine what behavior of yours is rude. Others will make that determination.

In my 1+ million miles I certainly appreciate those who are focused on a laptop or mind their own business far more than those who cannot shut up, but YMMV

Those are joke videos made for social media clout

How many years away are we from this?

Wonder how much weight could be saved by moving the processors/fans etc to the battery pack. Also maybe a move to titanium at some point maybe? hopefully these things could get it down from 600g to somewhere nearer 400g.

I’ve gone from totally dissing the AVP, to reading up quite a bit so I knew more about what I don’t want to have. So I am really sure that I want the new MBA M3 when it comes instead of the AVP.
I really don’t think a MBA can be replaced with a AVP when it comes to the writing experience though.

Maybe the next one or more likely the next ones after that will? Or maybe not at all!
It seems like AVP is a unique device in itself, that can’t replace a desktop, a laptop or other Apple devices. If any, it might be iPads. It’s how Apple gets us to buy several devices.

We'll see how these googles will evolve though. I don’t need them now.
Bring on the M3 MBA Apple!

Out of curiosity, have you tried the AVP? Because a lot of people wear headphones on planes with no one commenting, likewise sleep masks. I guarantee you that i am more aware of my surroundings with the AVP on than with noise cancelling AirPods and a sleep mask. Still not seeing what isn’t courteous when we already have the set precedent of headphones and sleep mask. Except I am probably having more fun and not putting it out there for all to see. I would argue that is showing courtesy on the plane to not having what would otherwise be flashing across the screen of my iPad or computer, than in private with my AVP. Our eyes are attracted to screens.

People are spoiled with technology and forget that groundbreaking tech is not cheap like most of the other not so impressive or groundbreaking tech.

It's never been uncommon for high end tech to be expensive/pricey! Back in the late 70's and early 80's, my dad was buying 9-pin Epson printers for $3,000 back then (I know because the price tag was still on a lot of the boxes that he kept). That equates, via an inflation calculator, to $11,000 just for a printer back in the day. My dad loved tech and he wasn't rich, just well off from a lot of hard work and committed to diving into the computer era and sharing it with his kids. We used all of that tech and enjoyed the heck out of it! It would have been an easy pass if he just decided it wasn't worth it though.

Looking at what you get nowdays, for ADVANCED or "higher end" tech, $3500 is not too far out of line... a loaded out 16" Macbook Pro will cost you near $3500 (and beyond) depending on how you option it. An iphone Pro Max loaded out will cost you $1599.. but if you use it and want it, you buy it and move on.

I get that this isn't for everyone at this price... this was a sacrifice for me financially, ie, having to cut corners on a lot of other things and saving for the last 6 months, but I wanted it THAT BAD.

I will also say this to all that just did a quick DEMO and decided it's not that good- you need more time to get familar with everything where operating within the Vision Pro becomes seemless.. I must say, after the first few hours I was thinking I may take it back... It was only after I worked through the frustrating parts and learned how to use the system that I felt I got the full experience and became happy with everything (I think any new operating system starts with a learning curve and potential frustration).

We now have transparent OLED TVs.. I can see a near future edition of the Vision Pro like a wraparound visor.
Transparent OLED tech is completely irrelevant. When the screen needs to be centimeters from your eye, you need to put a lens between the screen and your eye to be able to focus on it. But then you can no longer focus through the screen to the real world.

It would require a much thicker cable, would likely be less reliable, and may add latency issues. People would also start hacking the protocol to use either the glasses or the computing unit separately. Not going to happen IMO.

Sure. But if you read the threads around here much you’ll see that “when it’s glasses” is frequently used as some kind of trump card. As if such a thing is right around the corner. But given the nature of batteries, optics and chip manufacturing there is no evident path to components so reduced in size that they could all fit in a pair of standard glasses, even with the battery offloaded. And that’s not even touching on the second biggest obstacle to miniaturizing the device: heat management.

All the chatter about this tech fitting in standard glasses is just wild and unsupported speculation. No doubt Apple will find ways to make it lighter and smaller. But let’s not forget that what we see today is the result of over a decade of dev on Apple’s part. This is the smallest and lightest they’ve been able to make it over that time. One more year isn’t going to result in a dramatically different headset.
