Seriously, you should stop typing this in EVERY thread you read that you don't like. It's a community forum. When you walk down the street people post ads and notices for all sorts of things they want to communicate, but it's not your job to have them taken down. Maybe someone else wants to read them, or reply, or contribute to the discussion. You can elect to read or not read anything, so by commenting that the thread should be deleted you're either trying to boost your post count, or trying to play boss, which both are less productive than the actual OP's thread to begin with.

Please stop.

yup. I am not sure if he is trying to be "cool" with all the other people. But he is rude . very well put in your comment to him.

Here's my take.
I believe the JB is either complete or damn near complete.
The reason for the delay is 4.1.
With 3.x soon after 3.0 was JB it seemed 3.1 was released to fix some serious issues and the exploits were negated.
IMO he devs want to wait until 4.1 is released or in the remote possibility apple fixes the antenna issue a new JB would not need to be written for a few months.
I am impatiently waiting too, but these people have a talent I surely don't posses so I wait with the rest of the world

Being new to this forum I hesitate to ask this question but thought this may be an appropriate place to ask.
When the new jailbreak is released would anyone know if it will jailbreak just the iPhone 4 or for any
iPhones upgraded to the os4?
I have the 3GS with os4 with no previous jailbreak.

90% of the people on this board and most boards online are a group of the ruddest most arrogant people I've ever come across. I never said I wasn't grateful, I never said I could do it myself. I don't know the first thing about jailbreaking. But my point is, if they are going to be out in the "public" by posting on twitter and such they have to know they will get bothered for an ETA. And when u have members of the dev team joking about #pie of coarse it's gonna get people worked up. I'm so sorry I tried to start a conversation. I thought this is what online boards were about. But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it's all about searching and reading old post instead of interecting with and learning from others. I won't post again.

So because they're working on a jailbreak (something they offer to the public for free!) they're not allowed to have lives??

The people who get worked up about the dev team joking about #pie are, IMHO, immature and really need to realize that the dev team is doing this of their own volition and do not owe us ANYTHING.

Maybe it comes from 15+ years of being a software engineer, but I'm glad that these developers are taking some time to unwind. I've found that some Dow time generally results in a better product.

Check my post history. I have used it 2 or 3 whole times. It says my average post rate is 8.5 per day. So how can I be typing this everytime ?
And at least I didn't go into a thread police rant making assumptions about someone which are not substantiated and untrue.
Oh well, doesn't matter anyway since your whole EVERY time claim is incorrect. There are many other threads I didn't agree with where I took the time to make a lengthy comment.

And I could have just been outright nasty like this post
if you want a jailbreak so bad, create one yourself and just shut your mouth. simple as that.

I really think people have lost sight of what the developers are really doing for all of us. I know next to nothing about coding but can tell that this is quite a task for them.

The truth is, they probably do this for the fun and the challenge but, in the end, are kind enough to share it with all of us.

As valuable as the Jailbreak is to me I, for one, am grateful for their work.

Do I want it yesterday? Of course. But it boils down to this: unless you can code it yourself, you have no choice but to wait.

And I don't know about you but I can't code it myself! :)

Well put. It is a privilege not a right to have a jailbreak

Noone does, you have to wait and take chances when they come to you, couldn't unlock my 3GS since i bought it but i just use my carrier's sim card and another phone for my other carrier, i will be happy when a new unlock comes out but i don't go crazy, these guys are clearly working on it and it will come as soon as they think it's stable and fine so people don't come to this forum whining about how crappy the Jailbreak was

Probably the latter, but it's not certain.

If they had it finished and working properly they would have released it by now. Something is holding them up, and they're being quiet about it. Maybe they have met their match technically with the iPhone 4.

I won't be holding my breath for a Jailbreak from the current crop of JB dev's.

I agree with your first statement, but it somewhat comes with the setting. When there's internet curtains to hide behind, people will say things they'd never have the guts to say in real life. The fact is that while there are many cool, great people on here, there are also many people who have lived their "real life" as a mis-fit, or outcast because of the way they act\dress\behave, and this is their outlet to try and have a voice of power, so many people respond like they responded to your post, flaming you. It's sad and unfortunate because your post, while it may be repetitive, asked an honest question, and you had a right to ask it. People chose to join this forum because it empowers users to use open and free exchange of thoughts and ideas, and yet they then tell mods to delete postings they don't like or agree with. Hypocrisy is funny, but feel better knowing most of the people who flame you for asking a legitimate question are trolls themselves, social outcasts who use this thread as a means to feel some sort of power and accomplishment in their otherwise meaningless nonproductive lives.

But to answer your question, Jailbreak will come when it comes. Always buy a phone with the assumption that you'll use it without a jailbreak, and if it comes it's like christmas... but if you RELY on it, don't upgrade or get a new handset because the inevitable disappointment of not having it immediately available will keep you up at night :) Welcome to MR, by the way... keep ignoring the flame-throwers and you'll be fine.
I agree with you %100, no actually make it %200 :D

The "current crop of JB dev's" [sic] are the only people who have ever created successful jailbreaks. They have the exploit, have demonstrated it on their own phones, have the app almost done, and are just working out kinks in the application. Your skepticism of people who have always under-promised and over-delivered is silly.

they are waiting fro 4.1 I think. They know its coming within a month or so, so they will wait so that apple doesnt patch the security hole last minute.

Some of them are partying at DEFCOM 18...wait 'til the weekend's over and maybe you'll see more activity. :p

OP has a legit concern. To all those telling him to shut up and go away should learn some self control and not read topics they are uninterested in, instead of acting like elitist ******* Mac fanboys on teh INTARNET!!!

Everyone wants the JB now, no one is happy to wait for it. Who cares if people want to chat about it on the Internet?

Could you identify 'a legit concern' in the following?

I know I'm probably gonna get flames for this but I do not see what is taking comex and the dev team so long with this jailbreak. Don't get me wrong I know it's free and I greatly appreciate their work but why tempt us with pictures and telling us it's done (with some bugs) if they didn't plan on releasing it for weeks. I know if the show was on the other foot they would be asking just as much. Any ideas? Think they r messing with us?

If you want a jb now I suggest getting a 3G, 3GS, or even an iPod touch.

I don't mind waiting, my iphone 4 rules just how it is. But all you angry nerds ******** on people asking questions and using forums to discuss iPhone hacking and jailbreaking are annoying and embarrassment to online community discussions. Forums are meant to foster discussion as long as it's within the defined topics. This is. He's curious. So what?

Don't like it? Show some self control and don't read the thread and post like dicks.

Until there is a forum rule that says "DON'T ASK ABOUT RELEASE DATES" then stop with the stupid "MODS, /THREAD" posts.

And on the first page of 60 threads alone, how many of them deal with this precise topic. Honestly it's less of a complaint about the topic and more about the complaint of there are already 20 other threads about this. And in those threads it has been discussed to death.

The problem is that, despite the fact that you admittedly know nothing about what goes into developing a complex piece of software like a jailbreak, you created a thread in which you did nothing but cast aspersions on the Dev-Team. If you wanted to start a thread discussing what actually goes into a jailbreak, I'm sure we all would have been happy to join you and you might have learned something. But that is not what you did.

Furthermore they are not a corporation making money off their hard work and time spent... therefore they should not be required to give out ETA's, progress reports or anything else. Plus you probably don't realize all the testing that is involved with something like this. Nobody wants to be responsible for releasing something that bricks thousands of expensive phones.

I would love to dig into hardware hacking like this. Unfortunately, after tearing apart the Spirit source (even though it was admittedly pretty bad code), I've realized that no matter how competent of a programmer that I am, hardware hacking and discovering software bugs like this is a whole other skillset.
