That is one of the interesting things about the jailbreak community.

They say it's free and it's a free service... But.. There is a WHOLE community of paid apps via jailbreaks... If the jailbreak community accounts for 8% of users... That is: 4million iphone 4s already sold (not counting the masses that will be sold this week) that is 320k of possible customers for payed apps. I am sure it's in the best interest of people like Saurik that the jailbreak gets done.

I am sure they want this done now. Now the question is: now that it has been considered LEGAL to jailbreak and unlock, will there be other developers, even bigger companies making jailbreaks/unlocks and/or applications for the iphone?

There could be a company developing a jailbreak that allows only the installation of their program and then it doesn't require anything else...

This is open to a whole other business inside the iphone ecosystem. Yet I feel the devs are taking too long for 2 reasons: 1) they are not that experienced (who can blame them, most of them are very young and they have talent, but lack experience) 2) they lack the proper motivation ($$$).

The people that develop the iphone OS had experience before they began in a working environment and what not. I am sure apple has people inside that JAILBREAK their own software to try to patch it up before others can exploit it.

No disrespect to the DEVs at all... I am sure they are doing the best they can, but I somehow feel more people need to collaborate on this instead of just asking questions.

From me, the most expensive program I've ever payed is $30.00 and that is what I'll contribute to this. If a lot of people did contribute to them like this they would have a HUGE incentive to work for "us". Specially the developers of profitable sofware for the iphone should donate a percentage of their sales to the devs that develop the jailbreak.

They are alot more experienced than you think.
Some of them have been taking apart the OS, JB and unlocking iphones since the first day the iphone 2G came out.
And 2 not everyones motivation is purelly for a financial gain $$$.

OP has a legit concern. To all those telling him to shut up and go away should learn some self control and not read topics they are uninterested in, instead of acting like elitist ******* Mac fanboys on teh INTARNET!!!

Everyone wants the JB now, no one is happy to wait for it. Who cares if people want to chat about it on the Internet?

Sure, people are never happy when they don’t get something they want. Being unhappy is fine. However, bitching about the people providing the free stuff they want (get it, free?) is ridiculous.

Without getting too deep into a discussion that has been beat to death over and over again, I think there are a few more issues to this.

First off, no matter how many people jailbreak, there is the simple matter that installing a jailbroken paid app is a lot different than installing a regular paid app from Apple. Most people will gladly trust their payments to Apple, whereas with a jailbroken app, at the very least, it is harder to gain that trust to the point where someone might be willing to pay for an app. Also, no matter what you say, there can be bugs or unintended side effects in jailbroken apps that might not be present in regular apps, if only because jailbroken apps have such a deeper access to the system.

Also, jailbroken apps are generally just as easy to pirate as regular applications. Everyone I've seen talking about Installous on this forum says they just use it to "preview" applications. While that may be true for many people, I still have a hard time believing this is the case for a significant portion of the users, though this is just my opinion. With jailbroken applications, you just install a certain cydia repository and you are off. Of course because of the simplicity of this, this can lessen the potential advantage and overall impact of writing a jailbroken application.

The OP had a legit whine and wanted to cry about it I guess.:D Maybe get a friends or relatives shoulder because all this complaining and bitching about when is the JB is comming is getting old after a while.

The DevTeam doesn't take money.

90% of the people on this board and most boards online are a group of the ruddest most arrogant people I've ever come across. I never said I wasn't grateful, I never said I could do it myself. I don't know the first thing about jailbreaking. But my point is, if they are going to be out in the "public" by posting on twitter and such they have to know they will get bothered for an ETA. And when u have members of the dev team joking about #pie of coarse it's gonna get people worked up. I'm so sorry I tried to start a conversation. I thought this is what online boards were about. But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it's all about searching and reading old post instead of interecting with and learning from others. I won't post again.

You are the type of person you are describing, except you are clueless too. A rude arrogant person who doesn't even know it. Also s tfu you clueless noob/whiner. If all your conversations start with a whine then get used to the reaction.

With the recent Copyright Office and Librarian of Congress decisions, I predict companies will get into the jb business. I can't see even existing companies like Rock Your Phone staying with a business model that has as its' foundation a small group of hackers, much less a single person, developing code that allows them to stay in business.

I won't post again.

Everybody here has been attacked and raked over the coals at least once for a post they made. Everybody !

I'm sure your next post will not generate that much controversy. Don't let the negative reaction for this post dissuade you from asking something meaningful in the future. Besides, most of the replies in your thread criticizing another person's reply are just as bad and classless, if not worse, than the reply they are attacking. Just human nature.

People here may be harsh, but I think they are also forgiving.

for real? I had to read this all like a soap opera! Thanks for the entertainment.

The new DCMA exemption applies only to USC 12 § 1217 (a) (1), not to USC 12 § 1217 (a) (2). This means that while it makes it legal to circumvent access controls for installing third-party applications, it does not make it legal to distribute tools for circumventing access controls.

Jailbreaking is legal; distributing jailbreak tools is not.
