The App store updates are only just coming out though. It's going to be weeks for all the popular apps to incorporate the new features.

Weeks? I disagree. The devs knew iOS 8 was going to come out. So they knew beforehand which means they were working on it.

Is IS all rubbish if you were hoping they would add just this one.. far more useful than iHealth apps IMO.
So not having a feature that wasn't added somehow negates all the other features that did make it in there making it all "rubbish"? That's certainly some logic right there. And if that's the only feature you were really hoping for and without it it's all "rubbish", what's the point of using iOS to begin with then?

You can install custom keyboards. Notification centre can contain widgets. Apps can use touchid. Apps can use interactive notifications (eg quick reply to messages by sliding down the notification banner). Apps can now share files between each other. + lots more...look on the Apple website.

And, worth ALL the trouble in the WORLD for me....full screen caller id is back! *fist pump*

I saw the photos look different and the camera has time-lapse and burst mode but everything else seems the same. Help me understand what's new here!! iphone 5s

Good question. I was thing the same thing after updating my iPad mini. I was expecting it to look different but instead I'm hard pressed to see the diff. I even had to look at the version number to be sure it had actually updated.

Apple literally super-stuffed tons of options all throughout iOS 8. You just need to swipe around (up down left and right) and google a good article showing all the hidden new cool features of iOS 8!

The only things I've noticed so far as being different are 2 of my favorite apps being broken..Splashtop and iClarified (that one more broken on ipad than phone).

No family..no use for family sharing. Yosemite integration..well I do have Yosemite but still haven't figured out how that part of it is supposed to help..widgets..well I don't know about those except that my android tablet has them so I know how they work there but not on iOS. Don't apps have to install them or be downloaded on their own? That's how they work on Android anyway. Don't suppose many iOS apps would have widgets yet.

Most of the announced features are either missing or don't work properly.

1. iCloud Photo Library - not there for many people;
2. HealthKit - all apps that used it pulled at the last minute;
3. iCloud Drive - not yet implemented in any apps as far as I can tell.

Not many apps updated yet to take advantage of the new features. I've only had about 3 updates since iOS 8 dropped so I'm guessing the app store is getting hammered.

I have had 40 apps today (out of the 342 I have on my 64GB iPhone 5s) that have been updated specifically for iOS 8. Apps that use Touch ID, Notification Center Widgets, Manual Camera Controls, apps that use Extentions so they can be called by other apps, games that use the new Metal Framework, Apps that can be added to the iOS Share menu etc... Yesterday I had a few as well that had specific (and in some cases like Star Walk 2) major iOS 8 updates.

New Feature that is pretty cool

Settings>General>Usage>Battery Usage

Battery Usage for the Last (...) Hours
It now shows you the % of the battery that is being used per app or function.
Find out what is killing your battery!!

and no multi user accounts support

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I honestly can't get my head around this...I'm the only person who uses my iPhone and iPad...I don't need multiple users, that's like sharing a toothbrush.

Doesn't make sense for an iPhone, but an iPad is definitely more of a sharing type device, so having no multi account option is a bit annoying, of course Apple know that will force people to buy more of them.

Not like a normal tooth brush, more like one with changeable heads.

Upon further examination I located some of the new features. Still no revolutionary change. And some stuff like family sharing that I'll never use.

Exactly, it's nothing more then a marketing trick to force you to buy more Apple products. You have homes with 2 people in and they both need iPads devices to run apps from their accounts.
I'm not thinking iPhones here, iPads are where they need multi user accounts.

So does continuity and handoff work in mavericks, or do we have to wait for the yosemite release?

Hey guys, hows the battery life on the new ios compared to the ios 7 :apple:

I wanted to publicly thank them for once again switching the placement of the bookmark button. I retrained myself once already (was that back on iOS 5?) and now I get to do it all over again since the button moved back from the right side to the left side of the search box.

Look For The TIPS App

Did anyone else notice after you downloaded iOS8 that Apple put a new App on your homepage called "Tips" open it and it will show you 9 new features in iOS8. It appears Apple will continue to use this app to update new features as they roll out.

Check it out!! It's a yellow app. "Tips"

One of the new features is Ask Siri what song is playing, open your itunes and start to play a song then ask Siri what song is playing, she got mine right on first try. This is like Soundhound or Shazam.

Ha, I just did it again and I asked Siri what song is playing and she replied, let me name that tune, ha...and she got it right again.

This is a developer release to provide more app user functionality. Did you not watch the keynote or review the iOS 8 website? The website even says "Huge for developers".

You'll see more benefit once developers add extensions.

Did people really expect iOS 8 to look different for some reason? Why?

There are arguably more functional and under the hood changes in iOS 8 than iOS 7.
