I went to 'high school' (6th Form) in the UK and while they don't really have proms there, we did have a formal final year leaving party. I wasn't going to go for the same reasons mentioned earlier in the thread (I thrived on negativity at that time)but somehow ended up there on a party hop. I'm glad I did.

You should go. You never know what might happen.

I didn't go to my high school prom and I don't regret not going. To me, it seemed like a huge waste of money and my high school didn't really throw very good dances or parties. Also, while I wasn't a loner in school and had quite a bit of friends, I was far from being popular in school and didn't really know anyone that went. (Most of my friends also declined going to the prom). Besides, I still keep in touch with some of my high school friends and the parties and clubs I went to in college more than made up for me not going to my high school prom!

You should go, and make it a point to enjoy yourself. I was planning on going stag to my high school prom, but a really awesome girl ended up asking me to take her instead. I was super psyched and thought it was going to be the greatest night of my life... needless to say, my high expectations were smashed when I caught my date making out with some other guy at the after party. I ended up leaving early and spent the rest of the night sulking by myself.

Honestly that one thing I regret is letting her ruin my night. If I could do it all over again I would make it a point to enjoy the night, no matter what everyone else is doing.

You should definitely go. Have fun. It really is a once in a lifetime opportunity. And don't worry about everyone else, do what makes you happy.
