The Issue is, the OP is compiling all the complaints based off a tech forum. The majority of these complaints likely won't be noticed by the millions of others of users with their iPhones, given that their device is working as intended. But when you frequent a tech form, it's important to remember that the majority of people are here to complain about what they don't like about the device or problems they experience. But the OP doesn't touch on a lot of good things either, and just focuses on the negative.

At the end of the day, a tech forum is not indicative of the success of the iPhone X in the long run. This phone will be successful in the long run contrary to random issues it does experience, because that's how technology is.

Not here to win anyone over. Just telling it how it is. The X is being made an ex pretty quickly by alot of those who got it. This was supposed to be the biggy and it has underwhelmed.

no, you are cherry picking examples. The problem in your logic is, this is and apple focused forum and when it comes to products like this, people are more likely to post complaints than praise. In reality, where do people get support for apple products? Apples support forum and here are the two most likely venues for discussions.

This doesn't make for an accurate sampling... your metrics are skewed...

underwhelmed based on what exactly? the millions and millions who bought it? it is a huge release and has been marketed as such. So not sure why you think it's not.

It is the number 1 talked about phone out and will continue to be. Sorry if it's taken the attention away from your note 8.

Although this thread was only ever going to be a magnet for happy X owners mocking the OP, he does make a very good point.

I can’t personally remember an iPhone release that has divided iPhone users like this before? The iPhone X has attracted its fair share of negativity and when the OP states the threads here he’s not wrong.

I’m convinced the price has a lot to do with the negativity. It’s certainly my main reason for being less than impressed with the X and this will always naturally be used against any flaws that the phone may have. It’s expensive and it feels like Apple have deliberately split their users into two groups whereas we were all fans of the latest release previously. I mean, we’ve even got people on here suggesting the iPhone 8 is the ‘budget iphone’ like it’s somehow inferior to own it?! How absurd is that? lol

This device has replaced my iPad, my DSLR, and my laptop. A bargain for the cost.
Out of interest, when you say the iPhone X has replaced you DSLR, did you use it on full auto as a point and shoot rather than using the full capabilities of that camera? As a photographer myself, I can’t fathom how a phone camera (as good as it is) could compete against a decent DSLR?

Oh my! Someone on the Internet predicted that some other people on the Internet would write about their isolated bad experiences with a new product! I guess I better ignore all those positive reviews along with the multitudes who wrote nothing because they have no complaints. The OP probably predicted the Apple Watch would be a flop as well.

I suppose you have some stats that show a lot of people are returning the X? Please share!

I love the people that come on here. Start a dramatic rant. Receive pages of replies. And then poof gone. No reply or defense to their statement.

What makes you think I'm gone? I stand by what I said. And what do I have to defend? Check out the thread headings for yourself. Most of it is negative about the X. I didn't write those OPs. The fact is, the X was supposed to be a special device and really, it's meh.

so you use TWO THREADS as examples? you do realise one of those was when the phone was announced and not out, right?

millions and millions who bought the x are very happy with it i'm sure.

You are making this thread just to try to justify your note 8. Enjoy your phone but don't come here making false claims that people aren't happy or are bored. It's a phone at the end of the day.

Those two threads are mine, and both were posted after the keynote and before the phone went on sale. But there's many many more. And how would you know millions and millions are very happy with it? If we use this forum as a sample, I'd say the stats disagree with you.

PS, haven't bought the Note 8, but when I get the Note 9 next year, me thinks it will crap all over the XI or whatever it will be called.

It's a phone. It's a computer in your pocket. It's is not peace, happiness and enlightenment.

I'm guessing that most who populate forums like these are passionate about their gadgets and share their opinions. Sure plenty of unhappy users as well has happy ones. I don't think we can draw much from this. Roll on next year.

Of course my op was only ever going to attract the X lovers. I knew that. I acknowledged in my op that there are many who are happy with the X. But there are many who are not. Too many in fact. People who do regret getting the X are not gonna reply to a random stranger and say yea you were right, I do regret it.

The fact is, this phone has divided the iphone community like never before, when it should have been the 10 year celebration. Don't blame me, I had no input into the design of the X, I don't even work for Apple, I'm reaffirming what too many people think. You can blame Cook.

Again, if you like the X, good for you, you shouldn't even have known this thread existed because you should still be engrossed by your new toy and not browsing on a forum. Isn't it funny, people with the brand new X would rather browse a forum and read about the X rather than acrually play with it. I'm here because I am annoyed and underwhelmed by this year's offerings. Not good enough. To you X lovers, what's your excuse? Bored with it already, are we? X not working as well as it should?

I'm not cherry picking anything. I gave a few examples of the negativities. I could have gone on and on and written a 10,000 word thesis.

And I'll discuss the positives right here.

Phone is fast and powerful. Check. Just like last year.

Camera works great. Check. Just like last year.

No home button. Only change to last year. But it's 2017, which oremium smartphone has a home button now? All they have done is conform.

Honestly, where is the real improvement? There is none. Incremental upgrade. But the negativities, like I said, I could go on and on and on.

Cherry picking, you think? I don't think so.

I think the root reason for all of the complaining and disappointment all traces back to one thing. Grant it, the device has some blatant issues, but there seems to be an entirely different reason people are so upset. This root problem, in my opinion, stems from people trying to find happiness through a hunk of metal. I was excited to receive my new gadget, and sure I wanted to show it off, but I also realize that it's just a phone. We live in a time of mass consumerism like no other, material is all the rage, but at what cost? People don't seem to realize that while the iPhone is a tool and a gadget, it is not happiness in a box. Don't try to stick a phone in a void that no material item could ever fill.

You do realise this is predominantly an iphone forum , which you took the time to register with.

Good post. Lost interest pretty much quickly while reading.

My iPhone X is still amazing and the best iPhone yet. See, different strokes for different folks.

You seem like the sort of person who would buy a turd if Apple slapped its logo on it.

Is this thread another case of nobody reporting the OP because they counted on someone else doing it? :(

Report me for what? Being objective and not being blinded by the bright shiny Apple logo?

Every single iPhone released had its list of issues. The question I have , is the x selling well , based on its price....

Touch ID failed on me multiple times a day. Today I was at gas station, hood up, sunglasses on inside my car with a blazing high noon sun and face id worked without fail/hesitation.

And under what conditions did touchid fair? For me using both, fail rate is the same ...

if you had to make a guess based on your interpretations...

say 100 people buy iPhone X.. how many of them are happy with it and how many aren't?

Put it this way, if 5 people die on the roads over a holiday period, in your opinion is that 5 too many? This was supposed to be the biggy, Apple have had 10 years to perfect the iphone. I get that you can't please all of the people all of the time, but come on, the divide this year is bigger than the grand canyon.

You have issues man.

Close the Mac Rumours Tab, & go somewhere where you can post positive things. This is unhealthy for you.

So you think 5 too many people dying means someone has issues. Okay. Sure.

Deeds500 I think the problem people have with your post is the initial wording. I’m one of those people that companies hate. I wait for the product to come out and read a ton on it both good and bad. Visit it a few times in the store and try it out and then talk to people I see with it and then make my decision to buy usually months down the road. IMHO everyone is entitled to their opinion and views as long as you don’t try to force them to be my opinion and view. Not everyone is going to like the latest gadget that’s just the way it is.

I was agreeing with you about the division this release has created, not disagreeing with you.

I don’t think this year is unique for complaints though. We’ve had people sitting on their iPhones and complaining they bend and people putting screens under magnifying glasses in years past.

I’m a firm believer that those unhappy with the X would have been a bit more forgiving if it hadn’t cost so much. I’m also positive I’d have met somebody that owns one by now had it been similar in price to previous iPhones. It’s been over 3 weeks now and I’ve not actually seen an iPhone X being used in the wild. That’s a first for an iPhone release that I remember.

Out of interest, when you say the iPhone X has replaced you DSLR, did you use it on full auto as a point and shoot rather than using the full capabilities of that camera? As a photographer myself, I can’t fathom how a phone camera (as good as it is) could compete against a decent DSLR?

I am by no means a photographer, but I am capable enough to use my DSLR functions. My DSLR was originally purchased to take extreme high speed action shots (zoom photos of greyhound racing), but has pretty much been relegated to taking group shots of Xmas dinners and family reunions or telephoto shots of vacation destinations. So, the camera in my X is more than capable of standing in these days.

If millions and millions weren't happy with it and have returned it then we sure as hell would know about it. So no stats do not disagree with me at all on this point.

people on here only post threads with issues as the people who have had issues. It does not reflect the general public's view.

It's going to be hard for samsung to improve the note 9 much on the note 8 while the X with the larger display will have ways to upgrade it. The S pen this year saw basically hardly any improvements. Why? because it's hard to improve on what it already has which is great as it is.

The note 9 will not crap all over the X plus. You know why? because it still runs android and the updates are still poor as are the support samsung give users. Will it be a great phone? yes one of the best out but will it tick all the boxes the iphone will? no..not in many people's eyes

I’d still be curious to see how the iPhone X handles high speed action shots though. My iPhone is great as a general point and shoot and family selfies, but if I intend going somewhere to take photos, then it just can’t compete. My DSLR is fitted with an 18-20mm portrait lens if I’m out with the kids for example. If I go to Silverstone, Brands Hatch or Spa Francorchamps to take high speed motorsport shots, the DSLR is a must.

Phone cameras have got very good in recent years and have pretty much killed the point and shoot market though.
