Shut Up.

The iPod Touch 1G cost 155 dollars to make, and it retailed for 249 at the time.

So if the iPhone 16GB cost 183 to make (with Cellular internals and unnecessary equipment), it would be approx 150 - 160 dollars to make an iPod Touch 4G.*

That means the pricing would be starting at 249 or even 229.

It retailed at $299. If the iPod touch costs $160 to manufacture, and you want to have it sold at $299 for how much would Apple sell it to retailers? The shipping costs, chinese labor (cheap but still applicable), R&D. Not much room for profit. If I had to guess, I'd say that it only goes in the upper two iPod touch models.

apple will either make retina display iphone exclusive till next year or only put it on the 32g and 64g of ipod touch 4

I read somewhere that the shear numbers of retina's meant that they had to be on the lower models.

If they only put it on the 32GB then they better make it $229/$249, or else there losing valuable customers.

And to all who dont think there will be a Touch for $199, youre wrong.

I know that the 8GB 3rd gen was actually 2nd, but there was no huge difference between the two like a camera or retina or new design. Most of the parents out there that would buy a iPod Touch, have kids that already have them. And most of them dont want to have to spend $300 just to be able to upgrade. So if there isnt a $199 4G, a lot of people arent buying, especially for Christmas, which is the biggest selling point of the year. So theyre going to lose alot of business if they dont have a 4G for $249 or under.

Why not?

The iPhone 4 is making the iPod touch features look dull, Retina wont do any harm to it, and they might also add 1 camera that only takes photos ( maybe videos) , which might make the nano fall because that can only record videos...

But I was thinking the other day that the nano is rather useless anyway compared to an touch which is only $50 more expensive...

If they do have a camera, which it will, it will have the front one.

Not really, $50 can be the difference.

I think that if we expect to get all the new features of the iPhone4 in the new touch then it is going to look nearly identical to the iPhone. If apple wants to keep prices down and maintain decent margins then keeping with a profile similar to the iPhone will cut R&D costs significantly. Although since apple does what ever they want and they don't always produce what the market expects they might try to keep the styling slightly different. I would really like to see the new touch be as feature-loaded as possible. I don't mind if that means they need to go above their current pricepoints I would gladly pay an extra $50 if that meant I got both cameras from the iPhone with the A4 and the new display. Until the latest iPod touches all iPods have each lineup have been identical minus the HD capacity, I think it would be cool if they added some premium features to make like a top tier touch. This would still allow they to keep their "magical" $199 pricepoint and not disappoint the rest of us who want a feature rich iPod.

Yea, it will forsure have it I hope. I'm not eligible for an iPhone 4 upgrade, and I think a new iPod touch with FaceTime and stuff could hold me over until iPhone 5.

Yep.

What im really hoping for is a 16GB or 32GB for either $229 or $249. I want the iPhone design so we can have some cases when the 4G comes out.

It's certifiably insane to believe that it will have the iPhones design. There are way more parts in the is iPhone. Apple would want to promote how small they couldmmake the iPod touch. Also, there wouldn't be much reason to pay so much for the iPhone if the iPod touch was exactly the same thing minus the phone.

No its not. They may not make it have the iPhone 4 design, im just saying it would be nice for us to have some cases.

Actually most people buy the iPhone on a two-year so they get it for cheaper, and they get a phone and an iPod Touch combined.

It's likely that the display will be included on the iPod Touch. The display is not a reason I (personally) would buy the iPhone over the iPod Touch if the Touch didn't have it, so I don't think they're using it as a selling point in that way.
As mentioned above, in terms of providing apps, the two platforms need to have a similar, if not the same, app experience. This includes display, as well as the gyroscope which I think they will include in the new iPod Touch. If they're going to start designing games with these features in mind, both devices will need to have them.

Since Apple markets the iPod Touch as a portable game player, it will NEED the Gyroscope, which will make games better. As for the Retina, it will most likely be on the high end 32GB and 64GB models.

The next iPod touch will have a retina display.

"Costs $183 for an iPhone."

iPhones sell for about $600. They are subsidized down to $300 by AT&T. Also, Component prices will fall steadily over the next year. Recall that Sony first sold the PS3 at a loss. If Apple breaks even now, they still stand to reap huge profit from the App Store at the least, not to mention accessories. Also, the huge demand for retina displays will cause price to fall as supply ramps up. Do you not think that the manufacturers are expecting increased demand?

It will also have a gyroscope; compass is unlikely, if they didn't add it last update they have enough to add this time around without it.

Facetime camera is definite within the next two updates. Outer camera possible.

Alot of apps are compatible with the gyroscope and retina.
The next iPod touch will have a retina display.

So did Microsoft with the xbox 360.

Why would you even want a compass?

Facetime is likely.

+1

Also the retina display has to be the biggest necessity in terms of what features get carried over from the iphone, not only for gaming but also as an ebook reader. Having the best display possible would go over very well when promoting their ibooks app and store.
