How on Earth did you come to that conclusion? What does Verizon beating its *OWN* record for pre-orders have to do with what ATT did?

Because I believe the record was like 1 million devices or something like that. So if they beat it then it had to be more than 600k that ATT did.

If they sold more than 600k, that would be impressive. Not just in terms of sales, but also the fact that their website didn't crumble under the load.

Well, number one -- 500,000 Droid X's were sold on launch day so....

Yeah, they definitely hit over 600,000...

Saw on morning news that estimated 2 million preordered yesterday.

Oh, and the website didn't crash.

It took Verizon only two hours of having the iPhone 4 available for pre-order to break the all-time record for first day sales of a single device.

they beat att's first day sales:)

I bet lots of Verizon iphone 4 users will be mad when iphone 5 comes out later this year since they will have to pay full price for the iphone since they have a 2 year contract. They will all wish they had waited for the iphone 5.

You assume that Verizon will get the iPhone 5 in the summer.

Also, ATT has had lots of folks upgrade at the $399/499 mark. Which can be less that one year depending on your monthly rate. Verizon could have the same. Plus Verizon has already said that their unlimited data package won't be around forever. So some folks could get the iPhone 4 so they can ge a grandfather when Verizon pulls the move of cutting the plan with the release of the iPhone 5. So you might have to wait a little longer for the latest and greatest. It might be a repeat of the 3G to the 3GS and be minor changes anyway.

How about you use that nifty thing called google and find out what the record was before you, Bond etc keep stating your 'facts'

You are emitting a key part of this story. It was reported they broke the all time record for a VERIZON phone launch. NOT any single device on any carrier. That does not mean they didn't sell over 600k or beat AT&T, but that has not been reported or said yet.

Meh, I highly doubt it sold more than AT&T. If it would have, they most certainly would have announced it, methinks.

Don't confuse this with caring - I certainly don't. More power to you, Verizon folks. Same to the rest of you on AT&T. :)

Verizon iPhone 4 users will be in the exact same boat as ATT iPhone 4 users when the 5th iPhone comes out if the people who got the iPhone 4 used an upgrade as ATT iPhone 4 users wont be able to upgrade anyways until 2012. I'm going to do what a lot of other people are doing... sell one and buy new. I'm getting the iPhone 4 off contract for about $140 (my own special case). Nice try though at trying to be a party pooper.

Not necessarily true. I bought the iPhone 4 when it first came out, I actually got it the day before it came out and I'm eligible to to upgrade again on 6/19/11 there's a thread about it https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1088906/

If this was already mentioned before, then I apologies for the double post. But I just want to clarify 1 fact, AT&T did not have 600,000 pre-orders on the first day, Apple did.

Apple's initial pre-order was for:
United States
France
Germany
United Kingdom
Japan

Yesterday Apple and its carrier partners took pre-orders for more than 600,000 of Apple's new iPhone 4. It was the largest number of pre-orders Apple has ever taken in a single day and was far higher than we anticipated

This line:

Does not match this line:

It would seem the 600,000 pre-orders was a combination of Apple and others.

Why does everyone think that their take on ATT and/or Verizon deserves its own thread? Maybe I'll start a thread to find out. With a poll.

That is a great idea! Mayeb everyone should start their own thread rather than contributing.

Na na nuh na na my cell phone carrier sold more iPhones than your's.
WHO CARES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You have an iPhone on AT&T and like it? Fantastic for you
You never had an iPhone and you're buying your first on Verizon? Fantastic for you
You are switching from AT&T to Verizon for better service? Fantastic for you

The things people find to argue about on here are unreal.

It would seem the 600,000 pre-orders was a combination of Apple and others.

That is what I was implying, AT&T did not have 600,000 pre-orders alone as the OP title states " I doubt Verizon will even reach half of the 600K preorders ATT had for iphone 4"

It was a combination between all the carriers, which means 600,000 sales total for Apple.

So VZW, in just 2hours, outsold apple and all it's initial carriers worldwide in 1st day pre-orders.

I guess you haven't learned how to read yet, huh?

Where does it say that? Oh yea no where.

Now if you go back and READ Verizon announced they sold more than they have of ANY VERIZON PHONE at launch. Nothing to do with AT&T, nothing to do with Apple. (It is possible but NOTHING that has come out yet has said anything about what you keep posting as facts.)
You're a fool.

I am simply amazed that there are blithering idiots out in this world arguing about mobile carriers.

Uh, ladies? This is an iPhone forum...not a mobile carrier forum.

And arguing on the internet is well...just as dumb as this argument.

Apple's/ATT USA site alone crash while trying to handle over 600K preorders for the iphone 4 back on June 15th 2010.

http://news.cnet.com/8301-31021_3-20007906-260.html

Some people think that was world wide sales but that was just Apple's USA site for ATT which is a crazy amount and that amount probably would have been higher because probably 1/3 of people trying to pre order just gave up. I spent hours trying to preorder 3 iphones and only one order got through before I had to wake up to go to the store.

However, I predict Verizon won't even reach half the 600K preorder ATT set.

There are a couple of reasons and this isn't a "bash Verizon" thing. I am strictly giving my well thought out reason.

1. The main reason is that there simply aren't enough Verizon customers eligible for "full subsidy" $199/299 upgrades. ATT bent over backwards trying to "lock" people into 2 year contracts before their exclusivity ended. So ATT moved up plenty of people who normally would not have been eligible for the full subsidy upgrade (people were moved up to 6 months on their eligibility date). So more customers eligible, more sales. It's just simple math.

Verizon isn't bending over backwards trying to move up their customer's eligibility date like Apple. So Verizon won't capture the common upgraders who will want to wait until their full subsidy.

2. Number 2 is probably a more minor reason (except for diehards). But there are some people who anticipate a new iPhone coming sometime this summer and waiting a few 4-5 months is worth it to have the lastest/greatest. Verizon customers have waited at least the past 2 years so what's another 4-5 months for them. So this isn't a "new" iphone being released. Verizon is getting a phone that's been on the market for 7 months now.

So I am glad Verizon is finally getting the iPhone (I am a longtime ATT customer).

Hope everyone is happy finally (except Sprint/tmobile usa customers!).

But those are my reasons why Verizon will not match ATT's iphone 4 preorders.

Why? I've been a member of macrumors longer than you have.

Look it's pointless to get into arguments with people who have no reasoning power.

Until Verizon/Apple release numbers, we will never know how many pre orders were sold on Feb 3rd.

As for the 600K numbers by ATT, I stand corrected as other posters stated. Those 600K on June 15th were for Apple and it's worldwide partners including ATT in the USA. But until we get the breakdown of the actual sales figures, we will never know. And I doubt Apple or ATT will ever release those preorder sales numbers. Did ATT sale 300K? Did they sale 400K or the 600K? We will never know. What we do know is many analyst have stated that at least half of the 1.5 million iPhone 4 sold the first day came from ATT alone.

The second link is where I got my 600K preorder from US sales alone.

Same thing with Verizon. They broke their own sales record. But as other posters have stated, and correctly stated. Breaking your own sales record doesn't mean anything. It's all marketing. Did they break their own pre sales record when they "broke their first day sales?" Verizon isn't commenting on the exact number of sales. Of course, they will never release numbers for "competitive reasons".

I am not a ATT fanboy. I have both Tmobile USA and ATT service. I am not a Verizon hater.

I simply stated my reasons why I didn't think Verizon would have the same amount of pre orders as ATT (and my reasons were 1. ATT moved up a lot of users by as much as 6 months), 2. iPhone 4 is in the middle of it's life cycle so some people want to hold off.

If I am wrong, I will admit it. (like I just did had to correct myself with the 600K pre orders world wide).
