I bought my 3Gs this morning and immediately popped it into an otterbox defender. I dropped intentionally 4 or 5 times from about chest/head high On to concrete, showing the guys how great the case was.

It's the case with no worries.

Holy crap.

This thread is epic. That was like watching one of my worst fears!

I got cocky the last few months with my 3G and didn't use a case, that's sold. I was debating on not using a case for my 3GS, I mean the body on this phone is so perfect, cases ruin it. But after watching this I am putting one of the 8 cases I have for the damn thing on.

In my opinion, principles go out the window on day one. If the day I got a new phone I dropped it I would easily take the alternate color, or even pay a restocking fee to swap devices. Just go in to the Apple and tell them I want a different color or size. They just send the phone back anyway, they don't resell it.

Don't draw attention to it, just wrap it up..(if you still have the plastic, that would be great) and take it back like nothings wrong.

Sorry, I'm sure someone will come in and act like Jesus, but whatever.

I also think like some said, now that you don't have to baby it, you can just enjoy the phone without worry. You made it yours with that fall, you'll never forget it. haha

Take it back.

Best Iphone video yet.

The sound of Iphone hitting pavement is a terrible....terrible sound. My god.

Well -- my theory is if I drop it, then I drop it. I didn't buy the phone to cover up one of my favorite parts of it -- the white back. It looks sweet, there's no way I am going to cover up the back. And the clear covers? They're either too bulky or become discolored. I have the screen protector on it -- that's about as far as I'm goin with it.

Weird question but, dude, where were you?!?

The pomona fairgrounds, where they have the Los Angeles fair, I drove my mom over there after I picked up my iPhone so she could take her printer because she was having problems with the ink or something.

Yea I agree, I hate to cover it up with anything, and those shields change the feeling of the phone IMO, I really wish apple would have put a small hole so we could put some type of strap on it, like almost all P&S cameras, I was thinking about finding a old iPod cord, the ones you have you squeeze to pull out of your phone and cutting the wire off it, drill a small hole in it, type a small strap to it (like the wiimote strap), and then snapping that little connector in whenever I want so if I drop the iPhone it will hang from the strap.

Brah your iPhone still looks like new you won't even care in about a week. Where were you while shooting that video touring an orange plantation or something? :p

Radtech also sells replacement parts for the iPhone. You can just buy and install a new bezel if needed: http://www.radtech.us/Products/iphone-replacement-parts.aspx#housing

There's even tutorials there. I think you could pull it off

I had to replace just the glass on my 3G once. Even with the tutorials showing you exactly what to do with the perfect tools, its ridiculously hard to replace parts on the iPhone. Its not knowing what to do really but doing it without messing anything else up. I feel lucky I didn't mess up my bezel or digitizer taking it off and putting it back on.

Even Steve himself said he had never seriously dropped it for 2 years until now, so it can happen to anyone, which is why I think everyone should have a case, it's not like you're always thinking of the color or how good the phone looks without the case. The only time I appreciate the phone's shape is when I take out the case (use always whenever I go out) and use it at home (which is 90% carpet).

By the way USC is where I'm going to next year, what year are you in right now?

I don't want to sound intrusive, but a lot of people seem to be wondering this too...the trams? All the plants? Toyota everywhere? Wtf kind of place is this??

Its a huge place that they have RV shows, boat shows, computer shows, other types of conventions and stuff like that, they also have a small farm/agricultural area (we parked in a area that required the tram to drive through the farm/agricultural area). They also have a large horse racing track and a drag strip, there is also a small airport but I don't think that is officially part of the fairgrounds. They even used the place as a internment camp in world war II.

i was saved by my beast of a rock hard case .
so everything is good to go.

just remember, your iphone is your precious...do not, under any circumstances, let anyone touch it, even your girlfriend/boyfriend, and don't handle it when in transit...:apple:

I would probably start crying. LOL How many hour did you have until this incident.

BTW, the Video the TEST not the Drop was great.

Two years, and two iPhones, and not once did I ever come close to dropping any of them, but today, only a couple of hours I managed to drop my 3G S on asphalt, and scratched up the plastic and chrome :(. Luckily I did not scratch the screen, but I still feel like crap, it really ruined my day.

I just uploaded the video right now, I will have it up here. There are also some test pictures on there.

Damn!! really sorry bro!!
