The notch reminds me of a manilla folder tab. Which, too me, is beautiful.

(I wish they went with a way to hide it, though, throughout iOS.)

To me it reminds me of a pull-tab for the cellophane wrapper that comes with it.

Kind of like how people used to leave the plastic on their couches years after they bought them.

You sound like someone stood in an art gallery looking at at painting of a cat... talking rubbish to try sound smart
Hey, walk into any architecture school review and tell me if it sounds any different. Haha

Personally, I have no problem with the notch - it’s not removed screen space in the center, it’s extra screen space at the corners that would normally be taken up by the status bar. Without the notch, the top of the screen would be a bezel, and underneath that a status bar, taking away space from apps.

I’d rather have extra screen space than a pointless bezel. I prefer the look of the iPhone X screen with its notch to the look of the Galaxy S8 screen with its thin bezels.

the notch is just a marketing loophole to advertise the phone as having a bigger screen than it actually has. get real.

No. In most cases the notch only interferes with the status bar and they've moved the icons to accommodate it. It doesn't impact the traditionally usable area of a 5.8" display at all. The only time it would is in landscape mode. I don't use my phone to watch movies enough to care.
[doublepost=1507157663][/doublepost]I can't believe people prefer the massive, bulky bezels and overall size of the 8+ to a small, barely noticeable notch. Guess everyone is bothered by different things. The large top and bottom bezels look hideous to me. I also got rid of my last Plus because it was so awkwardly large. Bring on the notch. If it means the most screen real estate possible in a compact size, I'll take it.

The notch itself isnt the issue, the execution is simply dumb as hell. They could easily make the whole area black and have the signal bars etc appear in white instead to make it „even“

The reason why Apple can’t black out that section is because their ego is too huge and blacking it out would be admitting that they made a mistake with the notch.

The 'notch' holds the most upgraded part of the device... FaceID. It's revolutionary technology, which is years ahead of any android device. Seeing the Pixel 2, its horrible bezels, and its rear finger print sensor... Apple proves again how far advanced they are compared to Google or Samsung.

The Pixel 2 isn't appealing at all. However, if it ran iOS and was the only iOS phone around I would buy it. I love how phones look but it's the OS that's most important to me. Android is not smooth and dependable as iOS and does not look as beautiful. I also love how Apple devices play so well together. I work from home and today I used my iMac, my MBP, my iPad and my iPhone all with the same AirPods seamlessly with all my documents going back and forth on any device I needed at that time.

Wrong. I hate this myth. It’s skinnned versions of Android where this myth stems from, especially Samsung’s phones. Stock adnroid is smoother than iOS these days. iOS isn’t truly smooth anymore, it hasn’t been since iOS 7. Lag in the App Store when scrolling, same in the watch app, when using the app switcher, opening folders stutters, many third party apps stutter and aren’t smooth at all. iOS used to be smooth but now stock Android has take that crown. I heard nothing but praise last year from everyone who used one saying how fluid and smooth the Pixel was. Apart from the camera it was one of its main positive talking points. I haven’t heard anyone gush over how smooth today’s iOS is like that and it’s because it just isn’t anymore. For the most part it is generally smooth, but dropped frames and micro stutters galore.

It just keeps growing on me more and more. I have no doubt that eventually the Notch™ will become everyone's envy. It's iPhone's new signature, new unmistakable silhouette. Long live the Notch™!!

No, just be a man/woman about it and say you “love” the notch because you want everyone to know that you have the iPhone X...

I’ve been trying to be optimistic about the notch as it doesn’t look too bad in the hands on videos, but lately I just don’t know...

I take a lot of Snapchat pics and save them to my camera roll, I use it more than the actual phone camera. But viewing them on the iPhone X...

They always fill up the screen and ‘the notch’ will actually cut into and obstruct the view of my snaps. When a phones design gets in the way of viewing one of the main things you use your phone for then it is a big problem.

It will be interesting to see the aftermath of this. It will either be a complete design flaw and spell total distaster for Apple or something you just ‘get used to’. Viewing the above image though, I’m leaning more towards the former being the case. It may force Apple to remedy it in the software by adding a black bar to hide the notch which fortunately they would easily be able to do, and maybe one at the bottom for the home bar which would make it symmetrical, but this would defeat the purpose of getting rid of the bezels and having the whole edge to edge display in the first place. They may have created a solution to a problem but the solution may end up being a bigger problem than the original problem they were trying to find a solution to.

I will still be ordering one and with the 14 day return period in mind I’ll have time to found all of this out for myself with my own experience. I guess we’ll all find out what happens soon.

No matter how many times you polish a turd... at the end of the day...

... it's still a turd.

Not that it matters though. Apple could release the X in brown only and it would still sell out. LOL
I’d like to know why anyone would take the time to polish a turd

:)
